Searches on Patterson’s laptop shown to the court

Fox-Henry has told the court there are two types of storage devices in a computer - a Solid State Drive (SSD) and Hard Disk Drive (HDD).

He said SSDs function on electricity, while HHDs operate using spinning disks.

Fox-Henry said he was given three storage devices to analyse in relation to Patterson’s case: a 120GB Samsung Vivobook SSD, a 250GB Hitachi hard drive, and a 120GB silicon powered SSD.

Fox-Henry told the court he searched for artefacts using the keywords “death caps,” “mushrooms” and “poisons”.

The court was then shown a report compiled of artefacts found on Patterson’s computer.

The report indicated software identified several records of Bing searches that linked to citizen science website iNaturalist on the evening of 28 May, 2022.

Those records were stored on the Samsung SSD.

According to the report, the term “inaturalist” was entered into Bing at 7:20pm.

At 7:21pm, the iNaturalist website was then visited.

The court was then shown four records of website activity on iNaturalist between 7:22pm and 7:23pm that same night.

They included visits to three URLs on the iNaturalist website. Two of those URLs were titled “observations iNaturalists” and were each visited once.

The third URL visited was titled “Deathcap from Melbourne VIC Australia on May 18, 2022 at 2:36pm by Ivan Margita Bricker Reserve Moorabbin”.

The last URL was visited twice.

The records show, moments later, a Google Chrome search was then made for the term “Korumburra middle pub”.

Bold by me.
I just noticed she used 2 types of search engines to search the inaturalist website and the Korumburra Middle Pub. Was she potentially planning on attempting to wipe all evidence of Bing searches from her devices? I'd really love to know how often she used Bing vs how often she used Google.

Wonder what the relevance of this is "Korumburra middle pub"?
As above, I don't think what she searched for is as important as how she searched for it.

Each tiny piece of individual circumstantial evidence can be explained away to create reasonable doubt. But when you string them all together and look at them as a whole, it is harder to see them all as just coincidental. IMO
Shortened by me.

Amen to that!
One thing is nothing.
Two is a coincidence
Three is an oddity
Four is freaky
Five is a pattern
Six or more are starting to paint a very vivid, colourful picture in my opinion.

Yes, I noticed that too.

I saw on the news this morning there'd be another delayed start today.

“Don’t be tempted overnight to … put any of these URL addresses into Google and conduct your own searches, okay? You’re not investigators,” he said.

The warning echoes Justice Beale’s direction to jurors at the start of the trial that the must decide the case only on the evidence before the court.

“When you retire to consider your verdict, you will have heard or received in court all the information that you need to make your decision,” he said.

“You must not conduct your own research into the case or discuss the case with others who are not on the jury.”

That’s really interesting. This has been a very stop/start trial thus far!

I tend to use bing as that's what internet explorer brings up as my default browser. If I get annoyed enough at the bad results of my searches, I'll search Google and change over to that

Fair enough. Can I ask, if you do get frustrated by what you find - or don't find - would you use another search engine to then search the same thing?

Yes that's generally what happens. I don't like what bing has produced and then google it, and find better selection of results. Also in particular bing maps suck, google maps is much better

Erin breaks down when children raised, nurse says

By Judd Boaz

Ms Cespon says she was let into the urgent care centre and settled into a cubicle at the hospital.

She tells the court that Dr Chris Webster expressed concern for the Patterson children and asked Erin to pull them out of school to be tested for poisoning

"Erin became emotional, she was crying, she was saying that if it [was] necessary," Ms Cespon says.

Ms Cespon says Erin told the hospital that her kids had not eaten any of the mushrooms and had only eaten the meat.

Diarrhea and vomiting can cause a huge loss of water and minerals the body needs, named

electrolytes, in a short time.

Vomiting with diarrhea causes the loss of even more fluids and minerals

So if anything, she should be thirsty, drinking quite a bit of water and lemonade, having iceblocks, etc. If she were sick

The last thing you would be thinking about is food; your tummy would also be sore, and you would most likely vomit as its hard to keep any food down
3 things are obvious to me if you really have diarrhea/vomiting: 1) you don't remain sitting in a car, nor does a bathrooms stop take only 9 sec. for it, 2) you don't wear light colored pants (whether they be "cream colored" or white), 3) you aren't ingesting solid foods like sandwiches or greasy foods like hot dogs, and especially not irritants like chili, tomatoes, or coffee.

Bing is not some weird search engine that shifty people use to hide their searches.

Years ago google changed their news aggregate, and left out sections like Science, Health etc.

Out of frustration I started using Bing for reading news. And also for searching.
There is an option for searching time periods, like past hour, past 24 hours etc.

Over the years I've found Google search results went from literally hundreds of pages to maybe five and many of them have links to shopping sites, Youtube videos.

If I'm searching for something, I still use Google, and then I use Bing which often comes up with something that Google missed.

Erin Patterson's bowel movements collected

By Judd Boaz

When Erin Patterson went to the toilet, Ms Cespon says she told Erin that she needed to collect her bowel movement for analysis.

A bowel chart is shown to the court, recording the times Erin went to the toilet at the hospital.

The amount of content and the consistency of the movement is recorded on the chart.

Ms Cespon asked Erin to tell her each time she went to the toilet, so she could collect a sample.

She tells the court Erin explained the liquid consistency of her movements.

"I was about to collect it she mentioned 'it does look like wee but it's a bowel motion'." Ms Cespon says.

She says all her bowel movements looked the same, being of liquid consistency.

A closer look at the bowel chart

By Kristian Silva

The court is shown Erin Patterson's "Bowel Chart" from July 31, 2023.

It refers to times Ms Patterson went to the toilet at 10:00am, 10:04am, 10:06am, 10:25am and 11:50am.

Three "medium" amounts of content were collected, and two "small" amounts were collected, the chart shows.

On all occasions, the "consistency" was described as "liquid".

MOO Maybe she stashed the gas station food in her bag to eat privately while still letting her children think she was too sick to have anything but coffee. I don't remember whether the son said he ate both the dim sims and the hot dog. Perhaps they made both stops and the son only mentioned the one when he got food?
Coffee is acidic. It's the last thing you want to drink if you have stomach issues. I'd buy your argument if it was Ginger Ale or a soda like Sprite or something.

Or perhaps someone claiming to be sick might want to induce a minor bit of food poisoning by eating service station food? MOO
That's more probable.

More notes on the bowel movements

By Judd Boaz

Notes made by Ms Cespon during Erin's stay in hospital are read to the court.

In her notes, she states that all the bowel movements looked like urine, despite Erin stating it was poo.

She clarifies that the volume measurements of "small" or "medium" bowel movements are subjective and based on a reading of the levels in the toilet pan that samples are collected in.

I might have to put my lunch on hold at the moment after reading this 💩
