Right. First she is so upset because the family are distancing themselves from her. Then she says she wants nothing to do with them.

Flip, flop.
They may have been growing weary of the group chats via Signal...

We take a break

By Judd Boaz

After these emotive messages are read to the court, Justice Beale cuts in and asks for a break.

The prosecution has mentioned we may also see messages from the app Signal. Earlier in the trial, we heard the Patterson family had a group chat on Signal together, which Simon claimed was used to send abusive, accusatory messages.

We'll be back with more in about 10 minutes.

Is defence still alluding to the possibility that the Death Caps may have come from an Asian Grocery store?

all they need is reasonable doubt. they just need the jury to feel like they can't 100% confirm they didn't

It sounds as though Simon's parents were allegedly called on by EP to get involved in her disputes with Simon. 🤔
And then she became upset when they didn't take her side hmm...

Sorry for the duplicate, apparently the reporter edited to add that last bit.

Frustration with 'deadbeat' Simon Patterson aired in group messages

By Judd Boaz

A long series of messages are read to the court, expressing frustrations with Simon Patterson and his family.

The terms "gaslighting" "abusive" and "weasel words" are used in the messages, with Erin Patterson claiming that her son hated his father.

Another message read:
Would this have been in the True Crime group she was in? Nothing like oversharing to people you have probably never met on FB...

Not sure if she had any real life friends so maybe her only place to vent ..

Just when I was starting to feel more positive...

The Child Support Agency obviously did not think he was a deadbeat dad, when they ordered a pittance (the bare minimum, I think) for child support payments.

An independent counsellor/mediator may have been a good idea, but would she have listened to their advice?

I agree. Just one juror prone to magical thinking could be vulnerable to having an imaginary seed of doubt planted.

EP is wealthy, she would have had so many choices and options but chose very poorly for herself (at the expense of others)

Why was Morwell picked for this trial? Surely Erin isn't travelling daily from the prison in Deer Park?

I heard that EP requested for the trial to be held there. Not sure why

There are some kinds of patients many counsellors don't like to work with because they tend not to take any advice and even use what they learn in therapy against others. Just my thoughts.

You would think for a trial of this magnitude that it would have been held in the city.

For sure. And just checked the travelling time - 2hr33 from Deer Park to Morwell 😮

Anyone have a link as to why Morwell was in fact chosen to hold the trial.

It would be closer for Simon, and Ian Wilkinson to travel, but I'm not sure that they would be at the top of her considerations...

Q: Is there any mention about phone GPS data? Surely that would be more accurate than the tower pings that were discussed on Tuesday? - Chris

A:
We haven't heard anything about GPS phone data yet. The evidence through Matthew Sorell was all about phone records through the carrier Telstra.

However, we do know that Erin Patterson's phone was collected by police. So maybe we will hear that in the witnesses to come.

We did hear in the openings that police mentioned two phones relating to Erin Patterson and that there were some allegations of factory resets being done. It was also alleged that one phone was not recovered by police. We haven't got to that evidence yet.

So we may discover more about potential data in the days to come.

I'm not sure I'd be too worried about one juror digging their heels in. Frustration would start to be a factor, especially when this has taken 6 weeks out of their normal schedule. Having a few who have a difference of opinion would be a different story....though the rule is unanimous so technically there can be one who tips the scales. Much easier to resolve when 11 are of the opinion of not guilty than having 11 of the opinion of guilty.
