I heard that EP requested for the trial to be held there. Not sure why
"Morwell and Moe are among the most disadvantaged towns in Australia, with Morwell ranking in the top 10% of the most disadvantaged towns. The area is characterized by high unemployment rates, low participation rates in the workforce, and a significant number of families with jobless parents, according to Infrastructure Victoria."

Maybe she gets to see her kids more if they are keeping her in a jail close to the courthouse.

She has also expressed in the past how she thinks the locals are illiterates. Maybe she thinks they won't understand some of the trial evidence, and it might give her a not guilty verdict.

The only jail that I'm aware of close by is Fulham prison in Sale and that is for male prisoners only.

Morwell Community Corrections Service

"While not a traditional jail, it provides services for individuals on probation or in community-based programs, as well as holding individuals in custody when court is in session."

Thank you for sharing.

An innocent person happy to wait an extra 15 months in jail just for the preferred location of the trial 🤔
Method in her madness?

Oh, okay, There's a good chance that is where she's being held throughout this trial.

Mushroom investigation uncovers shitake and porcini readily available for sale

The jury saw Mr Schonknecht's investigation document which listed the businesses he visited and contained photos of mushrooms and packaging he found at those stores.
The businesses listed were: Everyday Asian Supermarket, Golden Grocery, Little Korea, Pacific Asian Oakleigh and Oakleigh Fresh Fruit Barn in Oakleigh.
In Clayton, he visited: Sarawan Spices & Home Entertainment, Hong Kong Asian Food Supermarket, Fresh Fruit Mart, Alishaan India Pty Ltd and Jireh Mart.
The photos depicted some products from Everyday Asian Supermarket including dried mushrooms, sliced shitake mushrooms in commercial packaging and some Goldfish branded mushrooms.
Other photos depicted 100gram bags of dried Porcini mushrooms found at Everyday Asian Grocery.
Mr Schonknecht also displayed photos taken from the other businesses listed and found an array of mushrooms including whole 200gram shitake mushroom packages.
'(The search) was open to every mushroom available at those stores,' Mr Schonknecht said.
Mr Schonknecht said he received a later email which stated he was asked to narrow his search to only sliced mushrooms.
The Monash Council health officer said he spoke to a store person who explained they sold mushrooms in smaller batches because it was preferred by customers.

Shitakes ‘removed from sale’ during mushroom hunt

Monash Council Environmental Health Officer Troy Schonknecht continued answering questions from Crown prosecutor Jane Warren.
He said none of the premises he visited had changed suppliers or received offers from other mushroom pedlars.
'All premises visited and identified as selling fresh or dried mushrooms had not changed their supplier since April 2023,' Mr Schonknecht said.
'They (also) had not had anyone try to sell them mushrooms.'
Mr Schonknecht said the second store he visited in Oakleigh, the Golden Grocery, was the only store which repackaged mushrooms from a larger bag.
Mr Schonknecht, who the jury heard visited 14 stores during his investigation, said he sent an email to the Environmental Health Officer Group on August 4.
None in the group, who were all health officers at Monash Council, had any 'awareness' any stores in the council area which sold any mushrooms in small unlabelled bags or 'lolly bags'.
Mr Schonknecht said he informed his findings to Victoria Health Department officer Sally Ann Atkinson who, the jury heard, previously spoke with Patterson for several hours about where she sourced the mushrooms.
The jury also saw photos of repackaged black fungus and a dried Tea Tree mushroom.
Mr Schonknecht said, under cross examination from defence lawyer Sophie Stafford (pictured), shitake mushrooms were temporarily removed from sale for ‘some time’ while his investigation was underway.

We're back from the break

By Kristian Silva

Some pictures are shown to the court, from Erin Patterson's phone.

One is a picture of a black food dehydrator, which appears to be on a white kitchen bench.

This picture is accompanied by a table full of tech information, such as the file name, path and size.

The picture was "modified" on April 30, 2023, the record says.

Explanation of Google Photos given to court

By Kristian Silva

More questions are asked by prosecutor Jane Warren about the technical details about this photo, and whether it was uploaded to the Google Photos application.

As Mr Fox-Henry is asked to explain how Google Photos works, the judge intervenes to ask if this evidence is necessary.

Ms Warren says she needs to go through it, due to the potential of defence barrister Colin Mandy SC disputing the evidence.

"Given it's later in the day, maybe Mr Mandy is getting cranky?" Justice Beale asks, drawing laughter from the courtroom.

We carry on.

More notes on the bowel movements

By Judd Boaz

Notes made by Ms Cespon during Erin's stay in hospital are read to the court.

In her notes, she states that all the bowel movements looked like urine, despite Erin stating it was poo.
Oh, I wonder why all Erin's poo samples looked like urine? Let me think - could it possibly be because they were urine? :)

The court works down the list of Asian grocers

By Kristian Silva

Shop by shop, Mr Schonknecht is being taken through his report into the Monash Asian grocers.

Tables being shown to the court include the details of mushroom products, pictures and the suppliers.

At this rate, this exercise may take a while.

In total Mr Schonknecht said he took 340 photos during his investigation.
Well at least Mr Schonknecht has the beginnings of an interesting book there.

A 7 out of 10 pain level is pretty intense. At that level, I imagine there's obvious signs of discomfort to an observer, maybe some groaning, oohs & aahs observed as well. I can imagine the patient would not be comfortable , and shifting around in their seat or bed. Asking, if not begging, for some pain relief. Maybe crying, or discomfort written all over their face. I wonder what this nurse observed as far as Erin's demeanour and actions were during this time period. Or did I miss that?
Quite the actress, IMO.

Photos on seized Samsung tablet analysed

By Kristian Silva

Images found on a Samsung tablet are shown to the court and described by the prosecutor.

Several photos are shown to the court, showing yellowy, dried mushrooms on a plastic tray.

Several are photos retrieved from Ms Patterson’s phone from May 4, 2023. Another picture is a bunch of large field mushrooms on a scale.

This same photo was shown to the court earlier in the trial, when mushroom expert Dr Tom May was on the stand.

Several images featuring information on types of cancer and metastasis are also shown.

Erin Patterson was researching cancer on phone

By Kristian Silva

The court is also shown what appear to be screenshots of internet searches, again seized from Ms Patterson’s phone.

They suggest Ms Patterson was looking up information about stage 4 cancer, stage 4 ovarian cancer and brain lymphoma.

Zooming out a bit, if we cast our mind back to earlier in the trial, witness Ian Wilkinson told the court Ms Patterson told the lunch guests she had cancer.

Later it emerged the cancer claim was untrue and no records existed showing Ms Patterson had ever been diagnosed with cancer.

Erin Patterson's phone was factory-reset before seizure

By Kristian Silva

A report of another one of Ms Patterson’s phones is shown to the court.

No data was able to be recovered from the device, which Mr Fox-Henry says was due to an irreversible reset.

"Based on this report, it appears this device has been factory reset," Mr Fox-Henry says.
A table shows four factory resets, occurring on February 2, 2023; August 2, 2023; August 5, 2023 and August 6, 2023.

The final three resets have occurred in the week after the fatal lunch.

Additional information shows the method of factory reset — the first three occasions show the phone was wiped "locally". The final time was "wiped remotely by user", according to the report.

Full detail of EP’s messages to online friends in DM article…..so much resentment, in my opinion.

“and I would hope they care about their grandchildren enough to care about what Simon is doing. Don said they tried to talk to him, but he refused to talk about it, so they're staying out of it, but want us to pray together. I'm sick of this s***. I want nothing to do with them. I thought his parents would want him to do the right thing, but it seems their concern about not wanting to feel uncomfortable, and not wanting to get involved in their son's personal matters, are overriding that. So f*** them.”
