Not the pantry at the Leongatha property though, the pantry which was cleaned out was at the Mount Waverly property

"The police noted Patterson had a second property in Mount Waverley, in Melbourne, and asked her if they would find any Asian-grocer style food there, but she explained they would not because she was in the process of cleaning it out to sell it and had recently emptied that pantry."

Thanks. The Australian article did not even mention the Mount Waverley property. Maybe they missed that detail.

I remember that property went up for auction - on Saturday 16th November 2013, at a price guide of $960,000 to $1.05 million.

Possible that she cleaned its pantry out 3½-4 months earlier, or there were never any Asian-grocer style foods there anyway.

Hey @katydid23 and @SouthAussie and everyone else who helped flesh out yesterday’s testimony with posts from other msm, thank you! :)

It’s really helpful to get the bigger picture of proceedings - I’m on my phone and am limited since there’s no way to have multiple tabs open.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to the defense’s turn. Any ideas about who they would call?

The interview with reporters:

The sharing of food between plates means there's scope for cross contamination in several directions. It may therefore be difficult to prove whether some victim(s) were actually targeted by the murderer.

The risk of cross-contamination was huge.... unless great care was taken.

Perhaps what was burdensome wasn't the shortcut recipe she followed but that she followed it twice. Two completely separate productions. Precisely to avoid cross contamination. One, even the day before, dry fully aside.

If everyone had died, who had which color plates? No one would live to say. What kind of cancer did Erin not have? No one would live to say.

One wonders whether anyone researched the halflife of the death cap mushrooms toxin, for which point it's undetectable, at autopsy.

Help me with some logic here.

She planned to make BW. She had store- bought mushrooms but somehow knew she wanted to augment her recipe with dehydrated/rehydrated wild mushrooms. Yet her dehydrated/dehydrated mushrooms were too pungent for her first selection, this BEFORE settling on BW which suggests to me, she was fullbore committed to using dried mushrooms from the outset.

I want to make a nice lunch. I already know I don't have enough mushrooms for whatever it is I haven't yet decided to make, therefore I'll still use my wild mushrooms, which smell awful, because .. the only things that matters to me is I get to use them.

Sus.

Does it matter? If you serve tainted food to some of the guests at a party, you know there is a good chance that anyone there could be exposed to it. People commonly share food, especially couples. In fact, Erin saw Gail give her plate to Don, and Erin never tried to stop it.

It seems to me that would fall under the standard of "reckless indifference to human life" which is one of the possible was to show mens rea in Victorian law.

Morning all. I wonder what more this trial has in store today.

Will Erin put on a defense or just rest?

Will she testify? With a new spin?

About the only defence I can imagine at this stage is to claim that she was overseas at the time and therefore must have a doppelganger.

Cant see EP testifying, but said the same about Greg Lynn.

Will be interesting, when the time comes, to see how long it takes the jury to deliver a verdict. I don't think we will be kept waiting long on this one.

IMO, two narcissists but of different types: Lynne the typical grandiose; Patterson the vulnerable. The former is more likely to think that they can win over a jury single-handed.

I remembered the police interview being played in court yesterday, and one of the things that stood out to me was when EP said, paraphrasing, that she wanted her in-laws in her kids', their grandchildren's, lives. Seems rather incongruous that she messaged her Facebook friends group chat to say she wanted nothing to do with them, seemed to despise them, and lure them in with a fake cancer story to (allegedly) murder them? And who keeps a manual of a dehydrator without said item? Now of course you could say that she was just venting to her friends, which is a distinct possibility, but added together it raises eyebrows. I think the social media 'chat' was quite a bit earlier. People can change week to week, let alone over many months and I'm not sure I'd put much weight to that evidence personally. I'd put it down to venting.

Ohh yeah that's right, thanks for clarifying that. That does make more sense, it's possible she calmed down from that venting. I can see how with that evidence it could make anyone potentially look bad; that said her police interview is still enlightening imo

Going by the evidence presented, I would say that the police case is showing behaviours over a specific period of time. Behaviours that they believe led up to the poisonings. That this wasn't a plan that formed overnight.

Perhaps they feel that it all started around the time that Simon submitted a tax return that said "separated" for his marital status? (I haven't checked the dates)

imo

So many little 'fake' details created. So they were bought for a pasta meal, but they 'smelled funny' ? And she didn't toss them?

So she uses them anyway, saves the rest. And no one got sick that time? So those weren't the culprits?
Bingo! Who chooses to use mushrooms or any food that "smells funny"??? That's asking for food poisoning right there- even without the toxicity of Death Caps.

It won't surprise me if she does, at her own wishes. Fits in with the Agatha Christie plot - the drama, control of the narrative, and possibly still thinking there's opportunity to outwit everyone at the last twist.
