I'm offended on behalf of all these dedicated health professionals that Erin is accusing of lying or being "mistaken" ............what are the odds they are all incorrect & Erin is telling the truth??

Zip, nil, none IMO

She really is something else.............& not too smart either IMO
I'm thinking that although Erin may have been super intelligent in her youth, her intelligence may have declined over the years. Has she had an IQ test lately I wonder.

  • #722
So the son is lying now too according to her.............. and she has black plates.

Rogers: “You served yourself on a coloured plate? Correct or incorrect?”

Patterson: “I didn’t serve myself at all.”

Patterson: “I don’t have five plates the same. So everyone would have had different plates. I don’t have four plates the same either.

Rogers said Patterson’s son gave evidence that when he returned to the house from the movies, he stacked white dishes up from the lunch and put them in the dishwasher.

Patterson said she didn’t have white dessert plates, and she believes her dessert plates are black.
MOO So now we know which plates ended up in the tip.

I'm thinking it's more likely her arrogance and her impatience with others has increased over the years.

I think she’s book smart and people stupid. Clearly because she can’t seem to read a room. It’s classic narcissistic behaviour, imo.

I imagine that the jurors will have access to police statements from the witnesses which should include medical notes they made as exhibits if any of the jurors are confused about which version of events is the most accurate.

I can’t tell if I’m biased here, but her testimony seems to be going appallingly for her. She comes across as arrogant, oppositional, argumentative and contemptuous. Is it just me?
She has to be the most arrogant, argumentative and obnoxious defendant in the history of mankind. She probably thinks she's winning! MOO, of course.

I'm thinking it's more likely her arrogance and her impatience with others has increased over the years.
I was thinking about that today. She was in Peri menopause territory at 47-48 when she was allegedly planning these murders, and I wondered whether a menopause induced psychosis was possible.

She doesn’t appear to have been in a psychotic state because she took actions calmly in some instances, but these are the warning signs pre psychosis.

A person will often show changes in their behavior before psychosis develops. Behavioral warning signs for psychosis include:

  • Suspiciousness, paranoid ideas, or uneasiness with others
  • Trouble thinking clearly and logically
  • Withdrawing socially and spending a lot more time alone
  • Unusual or overly intense ideas, strange feelings, or a lack of feelings
  • Decline in self-care or personal hygiene
  • Disruption of sleep, including difficulty falling asleep and reduced sleep time
  • Difficulty telling reality from fantasy
  • Confused speech or trouble communicating
  • Sudden drop in grades or job performance
Alongside these symptoms, a person with psychosis may also experience more general changes in behavior that include:

  • Emotional disruption
  • Anxiety
  • Lack of motivation
  • Difficulty functioning overall
In some cases, a person experiencing a psychotic episode may behave in confusing and unpredictable ways and may harm themselves or become threatening towards others.

Backed herself into a corner….nothing left to lose…the real Erin comes out!
IMO
And Simon had the temerity to be sarcastic??!!

And I guess her son was lying about the set of white plates used for the dessert?
This one small detail reveals how preposterous self-serving EP is. She'll shed a dry tear when the children's story aligns with hers -- can't you just feeeeeel the love -- but to save her hide, she'll deny their truth.

Love? Does she  love her children? I'm not sure she has the capacity. Love their blind loyalty? Maybe. Love how easy they can be to manipulate? Maybe. Love when you can get them to pledge allegiance to you and not to him? Maybe. Probably. Look what happened to  EP's loyalty when her in-laws turned on her. And oh the tragic irony. They didn't turn on her. They stayed turned toward their son. And even in that, they were measured. Kept a distance, not wanting to get involved in martial issues, rightly and smartly so.

IMO people are either useful to EP or they're not. Categories without guarantee.

Love? Does she  love her children? I'm not sure she has the capacity.

Again, with my amateur psychologist hat on, I have her pegged as being well and truly on the narcissism scale, therefore:

The tragic reality is that narcissists don’t (and can’t) love their children in the way that ordinary people do. They will tell you that they do (and most likely they will believe that they do), but their love can only be of the transactional, conditional type, even with their children.

Narcissism is a condition of low empathy, entitlement and interpersonal exploitation. These, very sadly indeed, do not form the solid foundation required for unconditional, deeply felt love. And although the narcissist’s professions of love for their children might look convincing to the outside world (but more often, they look a little over the top), whatever feelings they do have are shallowly held, and changeable.

In short, and to put it bluntly, narcissists do not have what it takes to be good parents.

My point remains that I find it odd that a homeowner with two children had only six plates, mismatched or not.
Plus didn't she have 2 or 3 scales to weigh things, or some such?

Her son's a liar too! (According to her, that is.)

Erin Patterson disagrees with son’s evidence about what she told him about being sick the next day

By Joseph Dunstan

Dr Rogers then moves to the aftermath of the lunch and puts to Erin Patterson that she never told her son or daughter that she was sick on the Saturday.

She says she can't recall if she did or didn't tell either of them on the Saturday.

Dr Rogers then moves to evidence from Erin's son, who told the court that on the Sunday morning after the lunch, his mum was having coffee when he came downstairs. Erin says that's not true.

She's previously told the court she was drinking something like a lemon and ginger tea from a coffee mug.

But she disagrees with evidence from her son, who the court has previously heard recalled his mother telling him they couldn't go to church that morning. "Disagree," Erin says.

"My memory of that conversation is very different. Would you like to hear it?" Erin asks. Dr Rogers replies she would.

Ms Patterson says she got up and checked on her son's bedroom, but he was already downstairs lying on the couch, and he told her he had a "sore tummy" and asked if they could skip church.

“I suggest that that’s a lie,” Dr Rogers said.

“It’s not,” Ms Patterson replied.
BBM. Per EP, the son was too sick to go to church, but fine to take a long drive and have a flying lesson?

There’s been a lot of debate around Erin Patterson’s claims during her testimony, especially regarding how many beef Wellingtons were made, eaten, discarded, and served as leftovers.

Let’s break it down logically with the numbers she’s given, and check if the maths holds up.
  • Erin made 6 beef Wellingtons.
  • She served 5 at the fatal lunch (for 4 guests and herself).
  • The 6th Wellington was intended for her ex-husband Simon but he didn’t attend. She says this one was put in the fridge and later thrown out.
  • Erin says she only ate half of her Wellington.
  • She claims she served leftovers to her children the following day (amount unspecified).
  • The guests reportedly all ate their meals completely, except for Gail who only ate half—her husband Don ate the rest.
  • Police recovered 1.5 beef Wellingtons worth of leftovers, including pastry and mushroom fragments.
PersonAmount Eaten (Wellingtons)
Gail0.5
Don1.5 (his + Gail’s other half)
Heather1.0
Ian1.0
Erin (self)0.5

Total consumed at lunch:
0.5(E) + 1.5(D) + 1.0(I) + 1.0(H) + 0.5(G) = 4.5 Wellingtons

Based on Erin’s statements:
  • 1 whole Wellington (Simon’s) was discarded
  • Erin ate half of hers, so 0.5 remained
  • She claims to have served leftovers to her children the next day (no quantity specified)
Total Made (6) = Total Consumed (4.5) + Discarded (1) + Leftovers to Children (C)

6 = 4.5 + 1 + C
→ C = 0.5

So her story only checks out if she served exactly half a Wellington (her own half eaten leftovers) to her children the next day. There is no explanation as to why she retained that, and disposed of a full, untouched BW.

Leftover and Discarded Breakdown (according to Erin):
  • 1.0 Wellington discarded (Simon's)
  • 0.5 of Erin’s was left uneaten
  • 0.5 served to her children the next day
Total unserved leftovers she accounts for: 1.0 Wellington

But police recovered 1.5 Wellingtons worth of leftovers.

That’s an extra 0.5 Wellington that doesn’t fit into Erin’s timeline.

This leftover discrepancy raises questions:
  • If all guests ate their meals entirely (as claimed), where did the additional 0.5 Wellington come from?
  • Did she eat less than she claimed?
Did she serve something else to her children?
All of these possibilities carry weight, especially considering the recovered food contained death cap mushroom residue—and was allegedly served to her children.

For her version to work, the numbers must match exactly:
  • 4.5 eaten at lunch
  • 1.0 discarded (Full, untouched BW)
  • 0.5 served to children (Her own, half eaten portion)
That adds up to 6.

But with 1.5 Wellingtons worth of leftovers recovered, there’s half a Wellington too many—and that means something doesn’t line up.
MOO I believe the children were served two steaks that were never made into wellingtons. Her son said he'd seen EP cooking them in a frying pan Saturday. His testimony is here. Scroll down to

The one time EP serves steak.... it's to die for.

I read your last sentence, and I automatically imagined donning my Herringbone hat and tramping around Outtrim, and sighting four grey plates cast atop a mossy knoll.

And I think: There is something very “twisted-fairytale” in all of this.

The settings and locations of the alleged crimes and their preparations are somewhat picturesque in contrast to the bleakness of death and decay of the victims organ failure, and horrific demise.

It’s almost as if Erin’s late mother could have written about this, in one of her books.
Yes, like a macarbe Grimms fairytale, is just how i described the case to someone recently!

Erin claims doctor didn't asked where she purchased mushrooms

By Joseph Dunstan

A little after 8am on the Monday, the court hears Erin Patterson arrived at Leongatha's urgent care centre and reported her gastro symptoms to the doctor.

The doctor, Chris Webster, has previously told the court when Ms Patterson told her his name, he brought her into the urgent care department.

"Did he indicate at that point whether or not he recognised you as being the chef of the lunch on the 29th?" Dr Rogers asks.

"Yeah, he did," Erin replies.

Dr Webster previously told the court that he told Ms Patterson there was a concern about death cap mushroom poisoning and he asked her where she got the mushrooms.

But Ms Patterson says she doesn't think he asked her where she got the mushrooms.

"That's not my memory, no," Erin says.

"So your evidence is that you did not reply 'Woolworths' to his question, 'Where did you get the mushrooms?'" Dr Rogers asks.

Erin says her memory is that that wasn't the question from Dr Webster.

They're gonna run out of room under EP's bus!

Yes. Isn't Paracetamol the equivalent of Tylenol?
Yes. I'm American but lived for a few years in the U.K. and I believe Panadol was the brand name for paracetamol.

How difficult can it be to know how many plates you have and what color they are? So her guests, and now her son too, are either color-blind (unable to distinguish between white, gray and black!), or they are lying, or they all have early-onset dementia and terrible memories. I'd love to know what the jurors are thinking. Her lawyers must be sweating bullets.

You guys, I'm starting to feel bad for EP. She's been a genius her entire life, but unfortunately she's been surrounded by cruel parents, morons and liars, and she's facing prison for it.

  • #740
I'm in Australia and I would say quite unlikely. Especially for a middle aged woman in her newly built 'forever' house. As others have said Erin didn't entertain frequently and yes plates do come in sets of 4 at times but most people that I know then buy 2 sets to account for breakages over time too.
Imagine having more iPads than plates.
