We call them trash bins. As opposed to the recycling bins that are usually right next to trash bins. Not sure about the rest of the US but...shoot. We've all looked at the trash situation.
But do we have the Placentia recycling info? And surrounding counties?

Yorba Linda Waste disposal collects Placentia trash and recyclables, I think. Black, green and brown bins, weekly (lucky them!). Carpet is listed as permitted in the black bin, which looks like the one outside Bob's house. This applies to 2013 but I don't know if this was the situation in 2009, when I think there were different collectors.

It might be interesting to look up any apartment blocks/stores nearby with communal dumpsters.

If the flooring was replaced, daughters must have noticed the old stuff in the bin - we know they looked because RB pointed out there were no 'large objects' in it.

It would take up a lot of room though, so maybe it was taken to a dump? If so, I would hope somebody co-operated with police and told them where it was taken. There would be no good reason not to.

If the job were done quickly the new vinyl/tile can be installed over the old flooring and there would be a minimal amount of trash. It does create a less professional look.

huh i've never seen vinyl/linoleum flooring laid so it was on a diagonal, 'spose it could be

Zwie- i think what you posted is peel & stick squares?

The vinyl would not be installed on the diagonal, instead it would be a diagonal pattern like the one attached (current Home Depot item). When I was originally researching this the same pattern was available, but it looks like they have different stock items now.

I live about 2 miles from Bob's house and am familiar with the area recycle and dump locations. Construction debris, like flooring, would not be recyclable here. It could be "dumped" in the regular trash, if it fits. The floor space in Bob's hallway bathroom is approx. 5' by 7' and that amount of vinyl flooring could easily be folded up and placed in the large trashcans that are used around here. If there were a lot of things to be disposed of there is a trash and recycle facility within 2 or 3 miles of Bob's house. That facility would not be the place to take items that a person wants concealed, because you pile everything on the ground and the staff then comes around and moves your items into organized piles. However, the Olinda landfill is located about 5 miles from Bob's house and at that facility you drive your vehicle (filled with debris) to a gigantic dirt disposal area that encompasses several acres of land. You then self-unload your trash and/or large items. Then large bulldozers come along and cover everything with dirt. For those of you who have seen them searching dumps for missing bodies on television it is just like that. A vast expanse of dirt and trash.

travelbug- do you know if that is how the Olinda landfill was operated back in July 2009? Just drive right in and dump, no questions asked or checking?

oh groan Chino Hills? really? well Brea, but that direction

http://oclandfills.com/landfill/active/omap

wow this is a oh chit moment if indeed someone could go dump and nothing is inspected as being dumped, especailly if it was somewhat disguised

  • #1,147
cash or check only, no credit cards, I wonder if they even keep record of tags or if you have to show drivers license- if any keeping tabs being done of who comes in to public dump

  • #1,148
are you sure they don't inspect stuff like in the back of a truck and people just dump the stuff off themselves??? I knew that landfill was there, but assumed that stuff was inspected if public dumped

about 4.5 miles, 13 minutes holy crud

and I wonder if anyone went to t he Home DEpot at 2455 E Imperial Hwy, Brea, which is awfully convenient between the 2 points

I was relocating to this area starting in 2006 and made many trips there between then and 2011. When you drove up to the pay station they would ask what type of trash you had and they would weigh your vehicle and direct you to the proper area of the landfill site. You then drove to the correct area and unloaded your vehicle (unsupervised). You then drove out and they again weighed your vehicle and you paid. I was always in a UHaul with a lot of items and nothing was ever checked. I haven't been there during the past 2 years, so I don't know if it is still that way.

sigh....okay this is insane...could this be where Mr. Harrod wound up? geesh it fits with the presumed timing
I am smacking myself all over for not actually calling that landfill to confirm how public could dump there instead of assuming, rats...so many I know of actually LOOK and poke at what you are dumping

They always checked my drivers license to verify that I lived in Orange County. However, my license was from out of the area and they would accept a utility bill or phone bill.

I posted the dump info on another site several months ago, because I strongly felt it could be Bob's resting place. It has taken me quite a while to post here because of email problems. There are people who scavenge around the site, but my guess was that "bagged" trash, etc. would probably be ignored and just covered over. I was moving in with a friend and had to divest myself of a lifetime of stuff, so many of my items were very large like mattresses and furniture.

I have felt that way since I began following Bob's case and felt extremely frustrated that LE didn't check out the landfill from the very beginning. To me it was like a gigantic red flag.:banghead:

There weren't any clarifying details, but from the context of the discussion I'd say by 'large', she meant body-sized. Bob-sized, I think.

I had to remove lots of old vinyl and found it didn't fold up easily unless it was the ancient, linoleum kind; and also that it was fiddly and time-consuming to cut it into small enough pieces to fit in the trash can, especially if there was something in it already.

I think the trash was taken Wednesday? So I'm guessing that by Monday it already had some trash in it. I suppose though, as Bob had been on his own, that might only have been a single, small bag and there would have been room for old flooring, or other construction waste.

I wonder if police ever checked the trash can?

Well, maybe RB has put the landfill onto the list of places where Bob will not be found.

I had old vinyl removed and the workers didn't seem to have any problem cutting it into squares. They used a big knife that looked like a box cutter on steroids and just went zzzzzip while it was still glued down. Then when they pried it up, it just came up in squares the right size for the big trash can they used.

Sorry, O/T. Four months. Large, deep lake with shallow areas too. Man-made by damming a river. With a town and who knows what beneath it. Maybe some idea of where the person went in; from the shore and likely thrown rather than by boat. No water scent dogs at all so far, it seems.

I'd think it would be worth a try; a lot of those reservoirs (lake created by damming a river) have slow current through them that varies by how far from the bank it is. Near the banks is often quite slow.

Any idea of why they haven't had a go with a water dog?

I suspect that Fontelle is working with LE and doesn't say a word without a reason behind it. She strikes me as a lady whose seeming outspokenness covers up her ability to keep a secret.
