The original source of this information is the scanner feed. I tried to reply to this post once, but it got deleted for including information from the scanner feed. So let me re-write a clearer reply that leaves out the direct source I observed it from, and filter it through journalists. (I'll figure this out eventually.)

It was subsequently mentioned by a journalist at the press conference, where the police confirmed they followed up on this tip. It was investigated, and confirmed to be unrelated. The police press conference is a legitimate source, yes?

I also cited the Nighttime Podcast in my deleted post. His podcast is from Nova Scotia, and verifies sources well. Would this fall into mainstream news? (Nova Scotia has almost no investigative journalism left, so his podcast has had legitimate scoops on serious cases.)

Yes I also had my post removed with the scanner feed as the audio was on a podcast/youtube. It was not the content of the individual’s YouTube I was sharing but the full scanner recording of the call being dispatched, and all details discussed between LE and dispatch.

If someone sees a coyote running off with an animal in its mouth, it’s most likely that they scavenged a carcass.

So I doubt a coyote harmed the children, but IF they did indeed end up in the woods while still living and perished there their bodies will probably be subject to predation by coyotes or other animal life

I'm in So Cal and interact with coyotes every single day. Yes, sometimes packs.
Granted, I'm a grown up walking a smallish Spaniel.
The boots and backpack or something else would have been found by now.

If you could post the press conference link with a time stamp that lets us know approx when the police confirmed this that would be perfect.
Please understand when it comes to podcasts we can't assume they are all correct in their information. Many podcast are out of control. I'm not saying that is the case with the one you posted but we have no idea how truthful they are. We will allow certain podcasts that interview people actually involved in a crime or podcasts we have vetted but random podcast we can't allow.
Just remember if you post something as fact we need a mainstream media source or a law enforcement source. That is why the police press conference would be perfect. If you could post the link with the approximate time of the comment we would allow that. It would be very helpful.

I see many people asking how the parents knew the kids had gone out the sliding door, when the sliding door was closed when they got up, and it's also said to be almost silent.

I don't see any reason to wonder about this. If the kids were nowhere to be seen inside, and as far as we know, they aren't able to walk through walls, it can probably be inferred that they slipped quietly out the door.

some kids are probably better about that than others but I seem to recall an interview with Daniel where he mentions that he is forever having to remind them to close that door when they go out of it. I'll see if I can locate a link.

IMO to me this looks like a situation where neither parent feels able to tell the complete truth because it may incriminate them both, but while there is some collective responsibility for whatever transpired, one may still feel that the other carries most of the blame. My own speculation obvs, based on the weird dynamic and patchy story.

That said, I'd also like to know more facts about who else was present or living at the same site.
