CANADA Canada - Jack, 4 & Lilly Sullivan, 6, Vulnerable, wandered from home 10am, Gairloch Rd, Landsdowne Station, Pictou County, NS, 2 May 2025 #4

My question is that if both kids were in school and though they were going to school, missed the bus, decided to walk, why is only one kid taking a backpack? It would make more sense that Lily would have also had Jack take his backpack right? I assume a 4 year old would have some type of bag with a change of clothes, pullups etc. for school.

Possibly not. The wee four yr old in our family doesn't carry anything. A change of clothes, pull-ups, inside shoes etc, are kept at the school, and resupplied from Mommy's diaper bag.
well that shoots my packed a lunch theory right out of the water lol
What else would she take her knapsack for? Kids pack snacks and junk. I hope we get confirmation that she even had a strawberry knapsack.

My wee g-kiddo is the same age and goes to school in NS. She wears her backpack around the house even if she isn't going to school. She carries her favourite things in there, most of which don't make sense to adults.
Other moms above have also mentioned that their kids did the same thing.

Thinking that the backpack could be brown now, just makes me think that they had been trying to keep it clean, or that he's asking people not to overlook a small child who could possibly be his step daughter, just because the backpack isn't clean anymore.

Looking at Google earth, their property actually has many small clearings all the way to the next dirt driveway. No buildings but that dirt laneway/driveway goes a long way back. What would it be? There are no farm fields so not that, could it be an ATV track or hunting lane to a camp? But it definately looks like it the little clearings between the said property and this dirt road could be enjoyed by kids.

would those dirt road be access roads for logging?

<snipped> . She said they were both non verbal.

Both parents denied the children were non verbal, iirc DM claimed they were talkative. No mention of where that false rumour came from or how they heard it prior to their initial media interview.

Maybe you’re thinking of autistic, when she did confirm to be so for both children.

Even the autistic claim isn’t verified from what I have seen. MBM said they were because they had trouble keeping up in school and Martell said something to the effect of - they were undiagnosed and had appointments next week to be diagnosed. - I’ll try to find the exact quotes

Seemed odd that it was one of the things the parents both chose to mention if they hadn’t actually been diagnosed. It fit in the same category as painting them as “easy to take”.

MOO

non verbal rumor came from an alleged shirttail relative of MBM comments early on on social media I believe.

No formal diagnosis of autism has been confirmed. MBM described them as "possibly" autistic in her interview. DM described them as "a little" autistic in his if I recall correctly.

Where did he state they had appts the following week? If he did, indeed, say that, I find it even MORE suspicious that the children disappeared when they did.

“Ms. Brooks-Murray, a member of Sipekne’katik First Nation, previously told reporters her children were both diagnosed with autism and struggled in school. She has declined further interview requests and has removed her accounts from social media.”

I can't fathom why she left the home her kids were last seen in.

Same here AddyFinch. The only thing that might explain it is if for some reason she felt the baby’s dad was involved in her kids disappearance. And if I didn’t feel like the baby or I were safe with the baby’s dad or family, I might not stay there overnight but I would certainly be there at the property looking for my children from sun up to sun down every day and talking with searchers on the ground and doing whatever I could to find them instead of just leaving. And I would be coming out with another press statement saying that I’m sorry for the info I gave on day 1. I was taking his word for what happened as I was asleep the whole time. The only other thing that could explain it is if she was involved and knows exactly what happened to the kids and had agreed to cover it up but after telling her story decided LE was going to figure it out and wanted to distance herself from him so she could blame everything on him when it does come to light. Whatever her reason it sure makes me think that she knows more than she has said.

She's back online now, and has changed her relationship status to single, changed her profile picture, and erased Daniel completely

Like I was saying, even the autism being diagnosed or undiagnosed isn’t confirmed -

Martell has said the children have undiagnosed autism and it is not like them to wander far

MBM said both children were diagnosed, that’s my confirmation as she ought to know.
Seemed more like an assumption from the interview of her I saw and then the media wrote it differently. Maybe you’re aware of another interview.
Martell has lived with these kids for 3 years and he thinks it’s undiagnosed autism when it is actually diagnosed? Did he miss the appointment? Was Jack diagnosed in the first several months of his life before he moved in with Martell? Is it possible they just assumed autism because the kids weren’t great in school as MBM says?

If you look at every interview it actually appears much more likely that it is not diagnosed and in my opinion it appears like it was something the parents wanted to slip into the interviews for some reason.

I agree. From previous links and discussions on previous threads, it appears the children have not been diagnosed with autism to date. MBM may have been misquoted. Although, autism can be diagnosed as early as four years old, it is usually not definitive until a child is a bit older. Additionally, I have a suspicion that it is not just potentially autism that has been affecting some of their behaviours and mannerisms.

FWIW, off the top of my head, the cost of a formal assessment for an autism diagnosis is quite prohibitive and generally runs in the area of $3500 to $4000 per child. Psychologists can strongly suspect autism but only a formal assessment by qualified persons can confirm it.

Not sure if Jack and Lilly would qualify but there may be assistance for First Nations children under Jordan's Principle which is law in Canada and pretty much etched in stone as a basic human right.

The RCMP has not officially referred to the children as autistic. They have spoken extensively with any individual associated with both of them: teachers, relatives, school bus drivers, and neighbours. So far, there has been no statement about a pediatrician. Most children who are home sick for a few days would have seen a doctor. I agree with @AIGT that the mention of 'undiagnosed' autism out of both their mouths right off is odd.
