I’ve been following this closely but have avoided publicly commenting on it so far because I’ve personally experienced a loved one go missing in the same region. Due to that experience which is still technically ongoing - the trial was originally slated for Sept 2024 and currently the only updates are publication banned status updates for the court - I know exactly how tight lipped not only RCMP but everyone involved will be if this plays out as anything other than they wandered off on their own and simply have yet to be discovered. MOO RCMP have an idea of where to look and why but they will do everything they can to avoid admitting even a hint of criminality to the public/media until they make an arrest.

Sorry you've had a loved one gone missing, can't imagine how difficult that must be.

It's reassuring to hear your experience with RCMP though and how tight lipped they are, it makes me think they know exactly what's happened and just need the evidence to make an arrest.

Thank you - I wouldn’t wish it on anyone but it has definitely given me a bit of a read on how the local RCMP operate and what they release/when. From the day Tony went missing from a parking lot in Truro it took 5 months for them to change the status from a missing person investigation to a homicide investigation and then 2 1/2 more years before they gathered enough information to locate his remains and make an arrest.
From the outside it can look like nothing is happening - it can look that way from the inside too - but that’s very much the result of Canadian privacy laws and RCMP methodology.

The Mounties say they searched ponds and streams around Lansdowne Station on May 8 and 9. And on May 13, the Mounties said some of the children's relatives were among those identified for formal interviews. By that time, the RCMP said investigators had received more than 180 tips from the public, and officers had identified 35 people to formally interview, including residents of the local community.

Police have repeatedly said there is no evidence to suggest the children were abducted.

I remember that case :( I'm so sorry for your loss!

It's more than just privacy laws. If details of the investigation become public knowledge so that they are discussed on social media, then those details can be tossed out of court as having been tainted. So to protect the investigation the RCMP has to be extremely careful about details that are disclosed.

Keeping details under wraps until trial also protects the witnesses and victims from public interference such as threats, bribery, false information etc.

The end goal is to have a just and fair trial.

As far as the earlier timeframe of requested video, imo you have to eliminate someone hanging around, lurking, stalking, etc. I don't personally believe that's the case here, jmo, but it's a thing to cross off.
Like BK in Idaho, lurking around the house prior to the murders.

Could you be thinking of the incredible skibaboo, by any chance?
Skib's mapping skills are unmatched. Miss her face around here.

They're only just now asking for security and trail cam footage?

They're only just now asking for security and trail cam footage?
At the moment I am hoping it is because they had a very good reason not to.
I cannot believe that they did not have thoughts that there could be more to this than just the children wandering off from day one.
As someone previously said ,they might have requested cameras from places closer ,but now have a reason to extend their area and times of interest.

I do not believe they are looking for any child abductor on those trail cams. JMO They are looking for evidence of something else.

Definitely.

I find it strange and maybe it's just me but people connected to both the mother and the father appear not to be making public plea's or comments on their own FB accounts? I would have everyone I know posting and reposting begging for help from anyone.

Maybe validating DM claim that he took out car/ATv to search for kids, or the obvious... that he took children out in car alive. Validating activity on road with time frames to match possible visitors at house? Not placing blame, but video should have been gathered immediately. Rural or not, every thread can paint a picture.
If rumours of personality traits are true, then maybe LE just needs one little shred of proof that there is a possibility of lies happening.

The RCMP has a mixed track record in the past couple decades but one thing they do well is keep a tight lid on investigations. Canadian law enforcement in general actually- as many here know - do tend to keep investigations & related matters very closed off from the public.

Or this may be a diversion. Or this may an attempt to rattle some cages. Or searching for any evidence related to the missing Lilly and Jack :(
I don’t believe in the stranger abduction theory. jmo.

But, who knows…only our Mounties.
However, I don’t think they are with us any longer.

They could be looking for the children. The cams are roughly an eight-kilometre drive from Lansdowne Station down dirt roads, but is also connected to it by train tracks and clearings for utility lines. If the kids found the power line clearing or rail way tracks they may have followed them for a much longer distance than the area near the house that was searched.

true, but them asking for footage beginning on the 27th tells me they don't believe the children wandered off Friday morning without a trace any more than I do. JMO others mileage will vary
