The BC RCMP already had evidence when the two were named suspects in three murders prior to the discovery of their bodies. That’s what I’m interested in, the reason police named them as fugitives after they fled east. If it was only on a hunch solidified by a confession after they were found dead, I don’t think the general public would be very satisfied with that given the significant intensity of the manhunt.

I'm betting on ballistics.

I think Kam and Bryer did their best to evade detection and pings on their phones. But I do wonder if they checked in at all online throughout their ‘joyride’. When their Instagram accounts were first posted I had a look - I could swear that Bryer’s profile pic was NOT that pic of him and Kam that is there now.
yes I thought same as you, and was sure the profile pic was not the original one i'd seen

Possible, but with no disrespect to his family, hopefully he didn't get his wish if that's what he said. It's doubtful that the bodies would be intact after the suicide and being out in the bush for days anyway, but there's no way this psycho should get his wishes granted. /end rant, lol

I always wondered whether the suit was going to be for job interviews IF that is truly where they initially were headed. I know they were going after jobs that entailed physical labor so it was likely not necessary to "dress for success". Judgment wasn't one of their strengths, however.

the phone could have been in a water proof case to protect it from the rain and or the river.

Wow all the bombshells in this case happen when I'm away from the computer!

I can't quite compute them leaving a goodbye and wishes for their remains with some of their more nihilistic actions. It does sound like the video might be part of some larger confession. I hope so.

I also noted the RCMP is promising info in a couple of weeks versus a few, which further suggests a confession.

I've said this before, but what an utterly grim way to go out with your childhood friend. Just senseless. All of it.

Yeah it does seem to indicate something though. Like maybe that they still cared about their families on some level enough to give them closure. And like maybe if they confessed (which seems very likely), that they wanted to own up to what they did (not enough to actually go to prison though....). I'm not sure the RCMP would have released it to the families if it was a "screw you" message, so it probably actually was a goodbye. Plus it definitely indicates they were still supporting each other to the end as we predicted. Who knows. It's all very strange, and yes, very senseless and grim.

I'm curious to find out if Kam said goodbye to his little sister. Or, asked his parents to do it for him.

<modsnip> as if this wasn't depressing enough.

Thought: maybe Bryer asked to be buried in his new suit after all?

Good luck with that....

I can't recall but I know the original didn't have the pink butterflies all over it, I think the original was just of Bryer too.

SBM

I agree it probably was a genuine goodbye rather than some sort of middle finger to the families if it were shared with them.

I think the message is going to be along the lines of "We're sorry, we never meant for any of this to happen."

Yes, I'm not really counting on their version of events to necessarily be the truth, though that was also true if they had been taken alive and interviewed by police. I am curious, though, if they did confess, whether they owned up to what they did or tried to make excuses.

Yes, okay, so are you saying that Bryer and Kam had a sat phone as well then?
Sat phones can also be tracked.

There are cell towers in northern Canada, including Manitoba:

Two in Gillam and one close by. Not great coverage, but certainly not non-existent.

It was a darker pic of only Bryer.

When people started talking of a pic of Kam and Bryer together with the butterflies I had no idea what they were talking about. I would have remembered seeing the two of them in a photo together. Especially one with a Snapchat type filter effect.
I have an inexplicable dislike of those filter effects. And now I’m dating myself. lol.

edited bc I left out the quoted/question from @sandbar

Would it be safe to assume [...] Kam and Bryer did not crash the john boat or at the very least were never in the water? They must have kept the phone dry. Although if it was waterproof... My LG V20 certainly is not. Unbelievable. This whole heartbreaking case just ripped wide open for me again.

They may have taken the boat, and kept the phones dry in the red and white jug.

Just a sneaking suspicion that we'll never know or see the content of their video. The families may have their 30 second clip or whatever it is, and that's probably all they'll get as well, aside from a summary of what else was recorded. The RCMP won't want to glorify these two and may provide the public with a very brief summary of their words if they 1) either confessed or 2) say that they had the whole thing planned. People are curious but releasing the details of the tape isn't really that helpful imo.

That's because I wasn't talking about airplane mode at that point, however it Does actually mention airplane mode.

"If you suspected your phone were being tracked and wanted to start covering your tracks without snapping it in half, your first bet might be to simply turn on airplane mode. That won’t cut it."

Common Myths about Cellphone Tracking - Safeguarde.com

Google is tracking you even with Airplane Mode turned ON

There are ways to turn off google tracking (and I learned about those on a gaming site on reddit after listening to To Live and Die in L.A.)

If Alan's seen the video the countdown is on until he's in the media talking about it.

Would it be safe to assume based on this report (also I am absolutely speechless, I would have thought they ditched their phones back in British Columbia) that Kam and Bryer did not crash the john boat or at the very least were never in the water? They must have kept the phone dry. Although if it was waterproof... My LG V20 certainly is not. Unbelievable. This whole heartbreaking case just ripped wide open for me again.
I’m even more certain they never got in it. They may have put their stuff in the damaged boat and pushed it off shore. If it took a few more days to find them, there wouldn’t be much left to worry about. Maybe they wanted their cellphones buried together.

  • #778
They could have charged phones in the car if they had the right charge attachment.
I'm confused as to why they weren't found sooner if they did have cell phones on them though, unless the video was recorded earlier than when they were in Gillam and they ditched the phones somewhere along the way maybe...?
Honestly, this has just created so many more questions for me.
I recall two firearms and one phone were recovered with the bodies. I think it's likely they made their "last will & testament" video statements long before they entered the woods in Gillam. I'm sure RCMP are able to detect when the video was made. Whether they share that info is another story. MOO

Oh yeah, RCMP will definitely know when it would have been recorded.

Some day, somebody will write a book.
