That's good to hear. That must be pretty close to regular price, is it not?

My friend just paid $12.00 USD ( $17.00CAD) for a dozen in California. I'm in Ontario and bought a dozen brown eggs last night for $4.00 CAD ($2.79 USD).
If we're comparing the price of eggs, I see that Aldi, Britain's cheapest supermarket, will sell me a dozen eggs for £2.39. That's 3.10 USD and 4.43 CAD.

So, the White House is going to try to "restore order" after Trump's mouthing off about tariffs.

This article says that the USTR (United States Trade Rep) is going to ask for public comment about reciprocal duties. Not really "public" comment, more like comment from businesses and other stakeholders. They apparently need formal feedback.

Because trade lawyers see a risk in Trump using the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to back the North American and China tariffs, which he tied to drug trafficking and migration, as the legal basis for the levies.
That may mean the duties could face lawsuits because they don’t fit properly in the law’s description of a national emergency.

White House Tries to Restore Order to Disruptive Tariff Rollout

Presumably (imo) they will get the feedback they formally need, one way or another, from Trump's oligarch friends and proceed with the tariffs.

I'm getting so tired of hearing about trump everywhere in every other countries business.
Tbh all trump has done is open Canada up to trade with other countries. We have replaced American products with products from the EU UK Aussies Spain Peru .hopefully we can sell our oil and minerals to those countries and cut the taps off to the USA then our trade issues with them are done and trump can quit crying about us being bad trade partners. Hopefully our country puts a lot more money into our military because we will need to protect our borders since Trump's become more buddy buddy with Putin. Jmvho

I said some because I know it isn’t all. I have many friends who are disgusted and embarrassed by the way Trump is treating us.
Add me to your list. I would feel this way if any president acted this way.

It is indicative of the IQ level in Trump's cabinet that they keep asking EU countries, ( Denmark, Finland etc. ) for eggs.. There are no spare eggs in the EU, because the trade is regulated. They produce what they can sell. That's what all those EU nations signed up for. That is, in essence, what the EU actually is. A regulated trading agreement.

Are they really this idiotic ?? They need to ask non EU egg producing places....
Yes. They are loyalists with little or no experience in their area of expertise. MOO.

Another dimension of the Canadian - US trade war is the recent entrance requirements to the US for Canadian visitors and snowbirds. My Canadian snowbirds neighbors here in Florida, who have owned their properties for about 15 years, now have entrance and exit problems.

One came by car in November and didn't get the I-94 form, because it wasn't required at the time, although they recorded his passport number. The rule requiring an I-94 form wasn't implemented until recentlly, and takes effect on April 11th. He is trying to get the appropriate form, but USCIS is not helpful, to say the least. One office said he was an illegal, has to leave in 3 days, and would not be permitted to enter again. Another had him fill out an online form, but no one is sure whether it is the right one or how long it will take to be processed. The others have similar problems. Depending on the employee, the rules can be misstated based on partisan politics.

Many Canadians are thinking about selling their properties, or may be forced to do so due to new border controls.

Having a bunch of bad clowns running the show makes sense for the Carnival Barker-In Chief.

There are now two bird flus in the USA: H5N1 and H7N9. The newest strain, recently detected, is far more deadly. The industry obviously needs better regulation and government oversight, beyond accidentally firing employees who report and respond to bird flu.

Rather than beg for eggs from countries that the USA government is threatening, time should be spent restructuring the industry to reduce and prevent expansion of the deadly bird flus. It looks like the country is burning while the government is shouting to the world: "gimme money or else!".

"The U.S. Department of Agriculture said Tuesday that, over the weekend, [DOGE] accidentally fired "several" agency employees who are working on the federal government's response to the H5N1 avian flu outbreak.

February 18, 2025

"The United States reported the first outbreak of the deadly H7N9 bird flu on a poultry farm since 2017, as the country continues to grapple with another bird flu strain that has infected humans and caused egg prices to hit record highs.

The spread of avian influenza ... to mammals, including dairy cows in the U.S., has raised concerns among governments about a risk of a new pandemic.
...

The strain that has caused most damage to poultry in recent years and the death of one person in the U.S. is H5N1.

But the H7N9 bird flu virus has proved to have a far higher death rate, killing nearly 40 per cent of the humans infected since it was first detected in 2013, the World Health Organization said.

The latest outbreak of H7N9 was detected on a farm of 47,654 commercial broiler breeder chickens in Noxubee, Miss., the Paris-based World Animal Health Organization said in a report on Monday, citing U.S. authorities."

To impeach the president, you need a two-thirds vote in the Senate. The Senate has 100 seats. Currently, 53 of those seats are taken by Republicans (Trump's party).

In the House, where impeachment starts, the Republicans have the majority with 218 seats to the Democrats 215.

He can't be impeached unless enough of the Republicans in the Senate and House can be convinced to stop licking Trump's boots. So you see, we are in a bit of a pickle here.
for 2 years in the next senate/congress election?

You may be thinking "what's he got against Woodrow Wilson", a president who died over a century ago. One of Trump's political heroes is William McKinley. It was Woodrow Wilson's Democratic government that slashed the late 19th/early 20th century Republican "McKinley" tariffs in half in order to lower prices for American consumers. Hence, he hates Wilson.

What a petty, vindictive little man he really is.
The USA government doesn't seem to know the difference between the world of 1925 and the world of 2025. Is there an obsession with the past - glorifying days long gone, or an inability for innovative forward-thinking to address new problems in this century?

Heh! That's coming out of the White House. I'm sure many people with no economics training will believe that.

OTOH, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development says the opposite.

"The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development estimated in an economic outlook update that U.S. households will pay a high direct price from the new import taxes, and the likely economic slowdown will cost the U.S. more than the extra income the tariffs are supposed to generate.
[...]
"It said U.S. economic growth was seen slowing this year to 2.2% - versus 2.4% in the OECD's earlier estimate - and would lose more steam next year, with growth now estimated at 1.6%, down from 2.1% previously."

While Canada is phasing out coal-fired power plants, Trump has now touted that he will save the US coal industry by reviving coal-fired plants in the US that were in the process of being shut down. Something like 155 of them.

The excuse is, of course, Canada's fault for making the US dependent on Canadian electrical power.

It's very convenient that Musk has dismantled the US EPA and the Dept of the Interior is looking to make access to previously protected federal lands available for mineral, oil, and coal developement much more possible. And much more money flowing into the coffers of his rich rich pals.

for 2 years in the next senate/congress election?

How congressional elections work

Congressional elections happen every two years. At that time, one-third of the Senate and every seat in the House of Representatives is up for election.

Midterm congressional elections take place halfway between presidential elections. The most recent congressional elections were in November 2022. The next midterm elections will be in November 2026.

Members of the U.S. House of Representatives serve two-year terms. All 435 House seats are up for election every midterm and presidential election year.
...
Senators serve six-year terms. So they will not all be up for election at the same time, their terms are staggered. Every two years, during each midterm and presidential election year, a different third of the Senate is elected.

(please go to the website for more details. I think 35 Senate seats are up in 2026.)

Honestly. It's no wonder people just bury their heads. So many versions of an issue it's hard to keep up. Can't imagine living with it. I don't believe anything that comes out of Donald's mouth or his administration. I check that white house site daily for news and articles. To me it's all lies, they never actually follow up either, there's never anything about what they've messed up and what they need to do to correct it, just what they state has been a massive achievement and "the best ever" thing they've done. I feel for so many American people living with this garbage, then I think about the wider problems this despot is causing and what it is meaning and going to mean for each and every single one of us, no matter where we are from. It's craziness and it's a scary and bleak thought. Jmo though, maybe I'm being dramatic lol.

Soon, the USA government will blame Canada for "cheating" the USA out of valuable natural resources needed to operate cars, fridges, electronics, phones and more. The word "cheat" will be used to describe resources that Canada owns, that the USA needs, and which the USA wants to steal.

This is the USA government plan regarding natural resources (scroll down for video in link). As long as Canada is a sovereign country, the rights of Indigenous Peoples are protected. The USA government wants to bypass the rights of Canadians and Indigenous Peoples by stealing the land and taking valuable resources ... to get rich. The USA government has the same plan for Greenland: take the country by force, violate and displace the local population, mine the land for resources without environmental responsibility, and be rich.

"The Ring of Fire in northwestern Ontario has become a key figure in the battle to control critical minerals, which experts say is the heart of U.S. President Donald Trump's threats to annex Canada.
...

Another Anishinaabe First Nation in Quebec had a recent, precedent-setting win in federal court that could raise the bar for consultation obligations under the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (UNDRIP)."

Hmm, maybe that should be the Department of Government Gross Inefficiency, as the head DOGGI and his puppies seem to need a healthy dose of DOGE themselves.
