Another dimension of the Canadian - US trade war is the recent entrance requirements to the US for Canadian visitors and snowbirds. My Canadian snowbirds neighbors here in Florida, who have owned their properties for about 15 years, now have entrance and exit problems.
One came by car in November and didn't get the I-94 form, because it wasn't required at the time, although they recorded his passport number. The rule requiring an I-94 form wasn't implemented until recentlly, and takes effect on April 11th. He is trying to get the appropriate form, but USCIS is not helpful, to say the least. One office said he was an illegal, has to leave in 3 days, and would not be permitted to enter again. Another had him fill out an online form, but no one is sure whether it is the right one or how long it will take to be processed. The others have similar problems. Depending on the employee, the rules can be misstated based on partisan politics.
Many Canadians are thinking about selling their properties, or may be forced to do so due to new border controls.
