The Liberal Party leader will be announced on Sunday. He or she will soon announce a federal election. That person (probably Carney) will run against Poilievre. It will be interesting to see the party leaders debate. Poilievre is a seasoned politician and an excellent, clever speaker who is running a Canada First campaign. Carney faltered during Liberal Party debates, especially the French language debate. He has no experience in politics.

Donald and Vance prefer Poilievre. Perhaps they think he can be easily manipulated, perhaps because they don't know the difference between a Conservative and a republican, and expect him to be just like them.

Canadians want a hard line with Donald, more of what Trudeau is doing.
I've been watching Poilievre for quite a while now, and I think he declared his chosen stand too quickly, his constant nagging to Canadians about how 'broken ' they are, broken, broken, broken, and it's something Canadians now vehemently and adamantly disagree with, as a taken position. They see themselves as unbowed and unbroken, and unbreakable, and rightly so, P's reiteration of this has not progressed his cause, I reckon.. His former nods to Trumpishness might be a real problem at the voting booths, even in Quebec.

My son in law is from Montreal, ( tears come to his eyes when I trot out my execrable Québécois ) talks to lots of folks during the day, ( he is a Montreal civil servant. ) and it has surprised him , the vitriol about being told they are broken.

Just as an aside, Greenland is an autonomous territory of Denmark.. The KIng of Denmark had enough brains to marry a lovely Australian girl, making the Crown Prince , and his sisters and brother , 1/2 Australian. It would be illadvised of the USA to muck around with our relatives... .. we would take deep offence. 😁 :p😁

Looks like Trump is trying to short the market, to me. All this upheaval and sudden swerves and backtracking, laying down tariffs, lifting tariffs,, Zelensky is bad, Zelensky is good, Kier Starmer is a clown, Kier has 'a lovely accent'.. then lunging, then backtracking...if it is accidental he should be sectioned, if it is deliberate, he is trying to short the market at high speed...

Probably to make a clean up while everyone else loses.. Dow Jones on it's knees........

I wonder if Donald is clear about where Canada and Mexico actually are? No sir, it's Canada up there, and Mexico is down here. No no sir, turn the map around, that's upside down. It's upside down sir, just turn it around. No, that's the wrong way up sir. . . . . Never mind, whatever you say sir, you know best. I was wrong, I apologise.

Honestly. I don't understand why the American people voted this man as their president.
Seriously, I don't mean to disrespect anyone, at all but not only is he a bully he is a criminal and American people think that's OK? That this is acceptable? A criminal, in the White House.
He will single handedly destroy America.

The American people deserve so very much more than this.

In 2015 when he rode his escalator to announce his ‘16 run I’ve been screaming into the void how horrific he is. Have stopped communicating with old friends who are blinded by the propaganda and seeing the division he’s causing daily, the absolutely brainwashed Americans with the media propping him up, it’s disgusting! I’d rather be Canadian

The irony of it all, is that as many Canadians became disenchanted with Trudeau, they adopted an American style of government criticism. They put flags on their vehicles, drove around with black F-Trudeau signs like they were in the American civil war, and used language that vilified the population into two categories. Those folks never bothered to identify their particular grievances. It was just that the other side is all bad.

It must be so confusing for them now. The Liberals are actually getting the country through this period. They have two potential leaders with a ton of economic experience, including experience in working with the US and the EU on strategic trade policy. The Liberal party is rising in the polls. The pick up trucks with black flags are less visible in these parts.

It makes me wonder if Canadians will be better informed when they go to the polls this time. Will they do their research to find out what each party's position is on various items of Canadian interest, including, but not only how they will deal with T?

.

This, yes. For sure. This I have already asked. I have some friends with good "designer" taste. And don't get me wrong, they are traveling too. But I thought there should be some interesting routes. Or even thinking of making some. Never been to New Brunswick or Nova Scotia, btw, I might need some good advices.

Have you been to Quebec? Old Montreal and Old Quebec City are really beautiful cities with a historic European feel, French cuisine, lovely fashion and a ton of history. Everyone in Quebec is bilingual, so you'll be fine with the language. If you go in the fall, you can make it a fall colours tour and explore the northern areas around these cities.

If you like the sea, Cape Breton is a wonderful place to explore. It's one of my favourite places in Canada. There is lots to do and see. The folks living there are the salt of the earth. There is a folk music festival sometime in early fall, if I remember correctly.

PP may be a lifelong politician but he doesn’t come across as smart, or as a problem solver. His entire persona is insulting Trudeau. Axe the tax. Just like Justin. Carbon tax Carney. Carbon tax Chrystia. Canada is broken. He has no solutions and still won’t get security clearance which is a huge red flag.

I remember when a car crashed going from western New York into the Rainbow Bridge and people didn’t know if it was an accident or terrorist attack, and he immediately said “what is the prime minister going to do to protect Canadians”. Well it was an accident. Instead of waiting for facts he automatically attacks Trudeau on everything. Trudeau is looking really good through all this and PP’s looking ridiculous. He’s had to change his behaviour completely to make himself look like a team player.

As a US citizen I plan to boycott anything coming from Canada or Mexico.
So you're reacting with tit for tat? Canada and Mexico, Canadians and Mexicans, have been really pushed, that's why they are reacting the way they are. What part of "Canada as the 51st State" sounds OK to you? What part of Trump addressing Trudeau as Governor sounds OK to you? Trudeau is Prime Minister of a sovereign state!
There's actually a lumber company in my area that was purchased by Canadians. They only employ Canadians, rotating them in and out every 3 months and all the lumber is exported to Canada. All the Canadian workers have been extremely nice, so very polite
Yup, Canadians are pretty polite and nice, but there are limits, and Trump has gone way over those and continues to do so.
I'm committed, we need to end drugs and illegal fentanyl from entering the US.

Moo
There are a number of posts on this thread (not least Trudeau's address to Americans, Trump, and Canadians on CNN) that show how very little fentanyl is coming into the US from Canada. In fact iirc there's more going from the US into Canada.

Trump's attack on Canadian sovereignty doesn't have much to do with fentanyl.

19 Crops That Are Grown Only in California

These crops aren’t just California grown…they’re grown ONLY in California.

If you’ve spent much time around these parts, you’ve probably heard us recite statistics related to California’s agricultural prowess. But just in case you weren’t paying attention, here’s a brief overview:

California grows upwards of 400 specialty crops

California grows over half of the nation’s fresh produce

California grows ⅔ of U.S. fruit + nuts
For those who look at the headline and line immediately below only, that could be a bit misleading. Those 19 crops are grown only in the State of California, in no other states within the US, but some of them might well be grown in other countries on the planet. I understand that certainly some Canadians are saying: buy Canadian first, then Mexican, then European, then everything else except US. No US.

WRT to Trump's mental abilities. If it's not dementia, then what is it?

There were numerous times during the campaign that I watched Trump and thought durn, that boy's cheese has done slid off his cracker. For example:

More recently, he was sniping at Zelenskyy over Hunter Biden's laptop, and shifty Schiff, and well WTAF?

This man is not in his right mind and has not been for a long time. He's the Weekend at Bernie's president. Someone is propping him up.

All JMO of course.

IMO, he is a narcissist and unable to see beyond his own needs and wants. Childcare? What need would he have of childcare? Every answer comes back to how it effects him. That's what's important. He can't even reasonably pretend to care about childcare.

I think he's too vain to wear reading glasses.

Edit: oooh, dyslexic. Sorry I glossed over that. Interesting idea.

That is a problem for Poilievre - supporting the destructive USA-funded truck convoy in Ottawa, anti-vaccine, labeling Prime Minister Justin Trudeau radical left, getting stuck on carbon tax (which is issued as rebate across the country), stating that war means Canada should increase exports to USA. All of that is problematic, so Carney (I assume) has to take a solid stance during the federal election debate. He needs to practice public speaking now.

Canada is a country where people easliy vote for one provincial party and a different federal party. Alberta has been a Conservative stronghold for decades, but that government has been corrupt on more than one occasion. If Carney supports new trade partners for Canada's oil; new export options (including rail), he has a better chance with swinging Conservative vote to Liberal. As posted upthread - all Canadians are proud of how Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is responding to war. Many wish that he was not stepping down at this time. Unfortunately, he landlocked Canada's natural resources to appease the USA - a big problem for Western Canada, so his replacement has to put all of Canada first.

For the Liberal Party to win the next federal election, the leader has to support Western Canada - and has to clearly say so during the next debate. Tariff strategies need to be clearly stated because that is what how Canadians will vote.

Yes, people see that. Donald imposes tariffs, the stock market and USA$ go down, people around Donald very likely buy those stocks knowing that he's going to back-track the following day. Insider trading is exactly the sort of thing that Donald would do to get rich.

In a new post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said he's mulling leveling new sanctions and tariffs against Russia over its latest attacks on Ukraine.

"Based on the fact that Russia is absolutely 'pounding' Ukraine on the battlefield right now, I am strongly considering large scale Banking Sanctions, Sanctions, and Tariffs on Russia until a Cease Fire and FINAL SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT ON PEACE IS REACHED," he said.

He also called on both countries to get to the negotiating table "now, before it is too late."
