Trump attended that G7 summit in 2018, but he had a tantrum before it ended, jumped on a plane, and sent insults to Canada on his way home.

The next G7 summit is in Kananaskis, Alberta in June 2025. Trump is invited.

It's more nonsense. Donald has been harassing Canadians with threats for months. He finally followed through, and, due to NYSE and USA$ losses, he's postponed for a month. He thinks he's giving investors a chance to get used to the idea so they can redirect investment prior to re-adding the tariffs next month.

Donald has violated the CUSMA that he signed. He has violated international law with threats against Canada's sovereignty (as well as that of Greenland and Panama). Donald has no respect for law. He tears up agreement that he signed, meaning he is untrustworthy.

“There’s absolutely no question that any effort by Donald Trump to somehow take over the land of another sovereign country is illegal in international law,” he told the National Post. “The effort to take over another country’s territory in part or in whole is one of the fundamental violations of international law.”

As for where to find that law, one need look no further than chapter one of the Charter of the United Nations. The document was signed on June 26, 1945, in San Francisco, and came into force four months later."

After its preamble — which includes a directive “to practice tolerance and live together in peace with one another as good neighbours” — the Charter states in its opening chapter: “All Members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, or in any other manner inconsistent with the Purposes of the United Nations.”

“(Trump) can’t turn this around and say it’s legal,” said Allen. “He may want to do it and he may have American self-interest in doing it, but it’s definitely illegal. And if you can find anybody to tell me it’s legal, I’d be very interested in hearing their argument.”​

The tariffs and resulting trade wars will alienate the US from the whole world. It may result in new and realigned coalitions against the US, such as China, Canada and Europe aligned together. The US could face military collapse under these circumstances, especially with the loss of Canadian cooperation at its northern border. JMO

Europe will only align with other European countries, Canada is not a super power.

Yes, we could offer ‘support’ but minimally.

China has been infiltrating / investing financially in many parts of the world, aiming to divide and conquer.

They are in Africa, the Caribbean, Great Britain etc, etc.

As my husband said, the next war will be won without firing a shot.

They will simply walk in, when they are ready.

My understanding is that China owns thousands of acres of American arable land, so quite easy to control them with supplies (or not) of food.

The question I answered was had he ever been to Canada. The OP didn't ask if he behaved or not while there. lol

I honestly hope we(Canada) have people going to the meeting with EU/UK because we need to figure away to protect ourselves , we no longer feel comfortable with our Southern neighbors. Now's the time for our government to stand up for us , to protect us and not to cave in to Trump's demands. We need more Doug Ford's more David Eby's jmoo

They complained that Canada is "so unfair" before tariffs, then they declared war on Canada, now they say the same thing: so unfair. Who cares. Play fair, and it will be fair. Cheat, lie and steal, and Canada will respond. What a ridiculous double standard.

The USA can sell their liquor to someone who wants it. Canada produces their own.

I wish we had Wab, instead of Canadian ScoMo. I saw a clip from the Premiers meeting in Washington where CBC caught everyone outside and Wab was just looking around with a smile on his face like he was happy to go on a field trip with the rest of the class. He knows that in the grand scheme of things Manitoba is a small fry so he has no bleeps to give right now. Sorta like how now that he's announced his resignation, JT is letting his ire show more. It's hard to take the high road when dealing with someone like Trump.

Yes. The Alberta premier today announced that Canada's heavily discounted oil sold to the USA will continue for now, but Alberta wants to send that same oil to Europe and Asia through all three of Canada's coasts. Canada has no choice but to seek new trade partners. Canada will neither trust, nor rely on, the USA in the future.

I understand. He didn't really see anything of Canada. He arrived for a meeting, got mad, and left - sending pot-shots at Canada from his plane.

SOME people south of the border. Not all of us are whining or unhappy with Canada. Those same people are not rooting for things the President does. Far from it. :(

If I could move there I would. Wouldn't be the first time I've had that idea and explored my options!

You’ve hit the nail on the head - trust is lost. How could Canadians ever trust the US? Agreements have been broken, who would enter into any new agreements?

With all due respect, it's not the US. It's 1 person and his cult-like followers, IMO. :( Trust me... I didn't want him the first time (I read up on him and O.M.Gee...) and I CERTAINLY didn't want him this time. I knew it was going to be bad but even I couldn't imagine the horrors we've all seen. And all within a few weeks. :(

I guess the point I failed to make when the OP asked "how could Canadians ever trust the US" about new agreements (in the future) is that once he's gone in 4 yrs (or hopefully less), he's gone. And HOPEFULLY no one even anything remotely like him will ever be in that role. So IMO it's not all of us not to be trusted (elections going forward), it's this individual and his cult-like following. In 4 years (and beyond) hopefully a different "personality" will be elected. Someone with political experience and not divisive.

With all due respect, there is nothing ‘ jokey’ about this situation.

Canada and the US are now at war. Trade war but that can change in an instant.

With China prepared to also go to war with the US, it’s a very serious matter.

Not a joke on any level.
I know, I responded to memes but if anyone is unhappy, I can delete. I read that he froze them for a month, no?

P.S. China’s war might be over a different entity.

Donald's assault on Canada has been so disrespectful that Canadians have had a strong reaction against the USA country, not the individuals. This is the second time that Donald is elected, so it's hard to look at the situation and believe that it's something that the country, as a whole, didn't want. That is, little was done to prevent it from happening twice, even though there was ample advance warning of what he planned to do. I have been reading about National Populism to better understand his strategies and goals.

I'm not convinced that he will be gone in four years. I have some belief, based on the radical changes he has made recently, that his plan is to change law so he can continue in the role of president as long as he wants. He was unwilling to step down the first time (even though he was not re-elected), so there's little reason to believe that will change this time.

This is hard for most of us in both country's hating what is going on and how it's effecting all. But how do us Canadians ever trust our neighbors after this. It's shown how easy it was to break agreements when we had a relatively good relationship what's to stop it from happening again? Both sides of everyday people are feeling this. People rebuilding homes in California and southern Carolina have to rebuild after the fires and the states needing to rebuild after flooding and storms the price of lumber is going to be crazy I know the mill my partner works in in BC have said they won't be discounting the tariffs from lumber that's going to be put on the buyer. When Ontario pulls the plug supplying electricity alot of people will feel that . Usually Canadians are friendly and helpful but we sure as heck aren't feeling that way. Trudeau is on his way out who ever takes his place as prime minister won't be that nice jmoo
