Ontario and Quebec are the Canadian provinces that export the most electricity to the US. On Monday, Ontario will add a 25% surcharge on its power exports to Minnesota, Michigan and New York in response to Trump’s tariffs. “It really bothers me that we have to do this,” Doug Ford, leader of Ontario, said on CNN Thursday

Unfortunately those are blue or "bluish" states. (I'm still angry that Michigan flipped to Trump! ) It would be better if the Red states were to suffer more as their "Dear Leader" is picking an unjustified fight on Canada and they are all for it. I wish they would actually look at real stats, rather than fake stats quoted by Trump.

We love most Americans. We have stood by each other through thick and thin. That's why this unjustified attack on Canada hurts so much. What happened, neighbo(u)r?

Our Canadian Senator, Patrick Brazeau (an Algonquin)

Dear
@DonaldJTrumpJr
, I once had a boxing match with @JustinTrudeau and lost.I know, I still can’t believe it myself. But I no longer smoke and have been sober for almost 5 years. In light of these bogus tariffs from President @realDonaldTrump from the 🇺🇲 onto 🇨🇦, I challenge you to a fight to raise money for cancer research or an organization of your choosing.

Our countries don’t need to be at war but we can fight to raise money.I’m in if you are.

P.S. tariffs have nothing to do with fentanyl. It has to do with our oil, freshwater, minerals, resources and our Arctic, just but to name a few.

I'm not convinced that he will be gone in four years. I have some belief, based on the radical changes he has made recently, that his plan is to change law so he can continue in the role of president as long as he wants. He was unwilling to step down the first time (even though he was not re-elected), so there's little reason to believe that will change this time.
And by then there will be a law making him King, with Donnie Junior as the Crown Prince. Don't laugh, this is how some middle eastern royal families started.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford on Fox News.

Scroll to 3m10seconds to catch what Fox plays about USMCA and it's signing in 2020.

I recently retired from a career working with seniors. His behaviour has for months reminded me of those seniors I encountered dealing with dementia.
There was a lot to discuss around the horrific treatment of Zelenskyy at the White House, but folks seemed to pass over the bizarre rambling on trump’s part - you know, his usual rambles that loop in Hilary, Joe Biden, Hunter Biden’s laptop - hey, maybe it was “the weave”, lol! But it sure looks like dementia to me. Sad!

I am not sure at all. <modsnip: Removed opinion stated as fact>

I think the first time: 1) he was very unsure of winning; 2) he did not come with "a solid team", there was Bannon, there was Pence attached by the party, and his own family. Trump is not a team player. At all. If it points at something, this is a trait to consider.

3) But now, he has a "team". And not a weak one. A technocratic one. Some of them are also seasoned politicians so they "play the King", so to say.

Even if you can't travel, you can always buy Canadian stuff online.

I love to travel. Otherwise, one day looks like another one.

One of the reasons, as an Australian, relying on Canadian imported potash, I keep my beady eye on Scott Moe of Saskatchewan... a bit dicey, in many ways, for one thing , he should not be driving even a scooter, but so far, he has not interfered with trade with AU, but..... he is a kind of wierdish trumpophile, a bit antivax, a bit insular.. I see that his party is losing ground a bit, especially in Regina, and Saskatoon... it is not impossible that he might go against the grain and run is own race re export of potash...

PS. The only clever thing Stephen Harper did was haul in Mark Carney in a bit of cross political non partisan way, to get him out of the fiscal swamp he fell into.. .. here's hoping Carney gets to Ottawa as prime minister. He comes off as the most sane person I've heard speak on fiscal matters, and a lot of other stuff, too.
The Liberal Party leader will be announced on Sunday. He or she will soon announce a federal election. That person (probably Carney) will run against Poilievre. It will be interesting to see the party leaders debate. Poilievre is a seasoned politician and an excellent, clever speaker who is running a Canada First campaign. Carney faltered during Liberal Party debates, especially the French language debate. He has no experience in politics.

Donald and Vance prefer Poilievre. Perhaps they think he can be easily manipulated, perhaps because they don't know the difference between a Conservative and a republican, and expect him to be just like them.

Canadians want a hard line with Donald, more of what Trudeau is doing.

You know, if you want to know if something is really true, just ask Trump. And then believe the opposite.

WRT to Trump's mental abilities. If it's not dementia, then what is it?

There were numerous times during the campaign that I watched Trump and thought durn, that boy's cheese has done slid off his cracker. For example:

More recently, he was sniping at Zelenskyy over Hunter Biden's laptop, and shifty Schiff, and well WTAF?

This man is not in his right mind and has not been for a long time. He's the Weekend at Bernie's president. Someone is propping him up.

All JMO of course.

And perhaps they'll use TsarLink.

Until 2016, Republicans were not like Trump. Like politicians anywhere, they had their failings, but some had an altruistic outlook and at times worked with the opposing party. I can't think of a political party in power in any Western country that resembles Trump's entourage. Trump's transformed party is like a revolutionary regime, axing his country's institutions and policies. IMO it is Republican in name only, and lacks a true conservative outlook.

Whether Canada's Conservatives resemble the earlier generation of US Republicans, I can't say, but I am sure that any self respecting candidate who wins the election will stand up for Canada. That is the natural scheme of things. I don't know much about Poilievre, but he sounds like an experienced politician. I hope whoever wins can come up with a strategy that successfully pushes back on Trump. Trump and Vance are deluded if they think that either candidate will be pliable. Both Carney and Poilievre must represent a shocked and angry electorate.

This is why I don't see long term or strategic thinking from Trump. There's too many inconsistent, purposeless policies at work, along with supporters with an assortment of agendas. But it's all very damaging. JMO
Dumb, dumber, dumbest, even dumber, more dumb - where to end?

I recommend to watch Hilary and Donald at Al Smith’s dinner in 2016.

Both he and Hillary are interesting to watch. To remind, it is a dinner where the candidates, after all serious debates, come to laugh and relax and collect money for the charity.

I think he didn’t change much, so no dementia. But I understood a lot from it.

I think he just likes jerking people around and is trying to lead by bullying rather than diplomacy (or intelligence).
Well to be fair, he hasn't got the choice of intelligence, has he?

Unfortunately, many Americans believe that Canada is 'taking advantage' of the USA.

I don't see how you have to say "many" Americans. EVERYTHING is now being converted to absolute $$$signs, so it is more specifically Americans who are being fed and believe the new Narrative.

"all these countries are ripping us off", is not the answer to everything, over the history of the US. But it is all we will hear from now on.

What are Canadians going to do about this?
Will they quit snow-birding to Florida?
Will they quit summering the whole coast of Maine? In Summer, every other licence plate is Canadian!
Are there really truly products that you cannot live without on a personal level?

It will be interesting....
Feel free to speak up Northern Friends!! Many MORE Americans really want to know what you are thinking.

I'm Canadian and I can tell you Canadian tourism to the States is only going to drastically drop. Snowbirds are selling their American winter homes to buy in Mexico or Asia instead. I have lost count of the number of people I know who have cancelled their summer reservations all over the USA to travel across Canada or visit Europe instead.

In over three decades of living in Canada I have NEVER seen Canadians so proud and united. after the trucker convoy controversy our flag is once again a point of pride instead of shame and are popping up in front yards all around me. For the first time in years Canadians are planning on celebrating Canada Day instead of taking a day or mourning for reconciliation. Hell even Quebec and Alberta are getting along. You know we mean business when Quebecois and our Indigenous populations are screaming their Canadian pride. We are even in the midst of removing many of the interprovince trade barriers that had this trade war not occurred, never would have happened.

Canadians across the country and across the political spectrum have never been so unanimously aligned. I've heard hard up Conservatives that used to have fck Trudeau stickers on their trucks flat out declaring they're proud of him and pissed Trump keeps disrespecting his role by calling him Govenor. I've seen Canadians rally together to buy anything BUT American from our grocery stores for well over the past month to the point some grocery stores are misrepresenting where produce hails from. Canadian produce is often sold out despite being more expensive than the American alternatives.

From the mouth of a Canadian: Americans have no idea just how pissed we are.
You know it's bad when anti-gun Canadians are suddenly lining up to get their gun license.
Or when our water cooler talks suddenly revolve around whether we should be acquiring nuclear weapons.

You especially know it's bad when regular, everyday Canadians, are calling on the King of Canada to speak up for us.
Much less cheer when he goes and wears Canadian military honours while on a naval ship.

Interesting article explaining why the USA wants Canada and Greenland natural resources. They are needed for digital development and military. Mining is environmentally dangerous and creates a lot of dirty air pollution. China is heavy in mining, and is the world leader with those resources. Donald wants to compete with China by ruining/exploiting other countries.

Well said. I don't think people South of the border understand what's going on in Canada. Too many think that going to war against Canada is a big joke. They believe Donald's propaganda and don't care about truth or reality. They think this is just about money, about forcing Canada to give them money that they think they deserve. They can't see the big picture.

Will they still be laughing when Donald decides to use military force to take Greenland? Is that also a big joke?

When is the joke over? When their social infrastructure has vanished? When scientists needs permission from the government to speak to international scientists? When health organizations no longer track contagious viruses in order to produce vaccines? What is that the punch line to the big joke of going to war against sovereign countries?

Natural resources are available to the US is the same way that they have been available for years. They can be purchased or traded. Just because one needs an item, it doesn't mean one needs to steal the store.
