It's high, but it has never been applied and isn't likely to ever be applied.
JDG, what is 1812?
US War of 1812.

The US and UK had different ideas about the westward expansion and how to handle Native American territories.

The War of 1812 was fought between the United States and Great Britain over trade, impressment, western expansion, and Native American policy. The war ended inconclusively in 1815.

It appears trump has far more than just a trade war in his plans

‘US President Donald Trump has reportedly warned Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that he wants to redraw the borders between the two countries.’
Donald has been looking back in history to the time when the border between Canada and the USA was established, and trying to find a reason to claim that the agreement should be torn up and thrown away. He does not want to renegotiate the border, he wants it eliminated. Donald, like Putin, wants to use force to steal land.

Russia is the largest country in the world followed by Canada. Next is China.

Russia, Canada, China. It's obvious what Donald wants - he want to be bigger and better than Russia and China. He's jealous of Canada's rank. It's that simple. He's like a cry baby who has a smaller bowl of ice cream so he has a tantrum, and then lashes out with force and steals all the ice cream. Then he will shout that he's the king of the castle. He wants to sit in a room and gloat over all the land and natural resource wealth that he has stolen from Canadians so he can feel like a big shot with Russia and China.

USA + Canada = the largest country in the world

I would believe this is really what is going on.

He has the entire GOP hamstrung because they will lose their huge campaign coffers if the billionaires don't think they are going to maintain the massive tax cuts they've paid for. Sadly, there are likely other billionaires who are not really as right-wing in philosophy, but also want to cling to their money rather than principal.

When I saw a picture of Bezos, with a scat-eating grin, in the Oval Office, I cancelled Amazon.

You nailed it perfectly, trump has such little man energy

"Nobody does it better than me, folks. I’ve built the best, the biggest, and the most successful things you’ve ever seen. Believe me, nobody even comes close. People say it all the time—there’s no one who can do it like I can. I’m the best, the greatest, and everyone knows it. Tremendous results, really fantastic. No one has ever done it bigger than me, and that’s a fact."

Amazon closed warehouses in Quebec as soon as employees formed a union. That's when Canadians should have boycotted Amazon, Prime and all related services. I cancelled my Amazon account and switched from Prime to Disney. Amazon is a big foreign company that profits from Canadians, but does not want Canadians to have employee rights and protections. I have no doubt that Amazon owners will benefit from tariffs on products exported to Canada.

Bezos has also significantly reduced the quality of the Washington Post, which he know owns. The comments section is changed to some unfathomable AI screen that is calculated to be non-sensible and conceal commont agreement or disagreement.

Trump really knew how to get to the top billionaire media enablers to help promote his ridiculous lies and childish taunts and behaviours.

What a great, and extremely disturbing interpretation of what is going on with Canada.

It's all cheap shell games, grifts, and twisted lies. In the same vein he has done his entire miserable life.
I think the dairy tariffs are stupid, it really wouldn't matter how much dairy they brought into Canada no one would buy it we know our standards , I should of told my daughter to snap a pic of the dairy shelves in superstore while the Beatrice milk shelves were over 1/2 empty the fair life shelves were full it's always like that not because of the tariffs and the fair life costed more then Canadian brands. The only American dairy product I've ever liked is Velveeta, but I only buy it when I want to make Mac n cheese lol .

Thank you. I forgot about that. Two WP accounts also cancelled.

Are you sure Velveeta is a dairy product. I've always suspected it was a petroleum byproduct. 😉

Not that it couldn't be from Candian petroleum.

For it to come across the border in the first place, it needs to be ordered by someone ....

We have enough dairy here for Canadians.

No one's ordering US dairy. It's just not something Canada has ever required/done. It's a smokescreen, but looks really good to his base "@250%" .... lol.

Yesterday, I heard on local news that every point drop in the NYSE was reflected with a point increase in the European stock markets. That was followed by claims that Donald is not making the USA rich, he's making the EU rich!

He's also triggering a large movement in Canada to develop infrastructure in ways unseen for more than 50 years. All of this is good for the Canadian economy and futures markets.

Bottom line, Donald is making the EU and Canada great and rich while self-isolating and punishing the USA with unnecessary 25% tax.

"Not since the completion of the Trans-Canada Highway in 1971 have so many politicians, experts and ordinary Canadians been talking up major projects — everything from an east-west "energy corridor" to port expansions and rail upgrades — insisting the country needs to build, and build fast.

A big part of this urgency comes from shifting geopolitics and economic uncertainty tied to Canada's reliance on the United States. President Donald Trump's tariffs and "51st state" rhetoric have driven home the need for alternate trade routes and new markets.

Federal leaders, premiers and industry insiders are now looking at ways to fast-track projects that once languished in political purgatory, all in hopes of making Canada more self-reliant and resilient."

Noisy, annoying leader of the own-goals.

This bears repeating for two reasons. First, it demonstrates how ignorant the USA president is regarding foreign countries. Second, it illustrates that USA prefers propaganda over truth and fact.

Donald seems unaware of the fact that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau resigned from his position a couple of months ago. Alternatively, Donald thinks that Canadians resign from a job and then immediately turn around and re-apply for that same job. He must think that Canadians are complete dunces to act so ridiculous. Donald expects someone - not sure who - to believe that the Prime Minister is responsible for illegally violating the free trade agreement and imposing 25% percent tariff tax on all exports from his own country.

What Donald says makes no sense in any context, yet 50% of people in the USA believe what he says. Why is that? Is it because they enjoy the bully mentality and feel energized when acting big and tough? What is it about Donald that makes people want to be just like him, to think like him, to speak like him and to agree with his word-salad?

From the mouth of the USA president:

"Believe it or not, despite the terrible job he’s done for Canada, I think that Justin Trudeau is using the Tariff problem, which he has largely caused, in order to run again for Prime Minister," Trump wrote in a follow-up post on his Truth Social account on Thursday. "So much fun to watch!"

1812 refers to the War of 1812.

The only other war between the two countries.

We (The British) won.

Remember Laura Secord?

She isnt just a chocolate shop.

I wonder what's going to happen when Canada is able to find buyers for oil , lumber, potash and minerals in other countries to replace the orders to the USA and we no longer need to trade the large amounts to the USA. What will the US do for those products ,I know the mill my partner works at is getting more over seas orders .what happens when Doug cuts off the power. Maybe trump needs to think of the consequences to his actions. I think the effects of this will last a long long time. I think we need more talks with our government in Canada about our safety and our defense we need protection from our neighbour . We don't know Trump's end game yet. Jmvho

Is it really a good idea for the USA to pick a fight with Canada when Canada has the ability to cut off electricity to 1/4 of USA states, and to shut down oil export - which is needed to heat homes and power all forms of transportation throughout the country? Donald is expecting Canada to play nice during war, but the more Donald escalates, the closer he moves to causing 13 states being severely compromised.

People in those states should be making a lot more noise telling Donald to quit it and find something more useful to do with his time.

"Manitoba Hydro will review contracts on energy exports to the United States, Kinew said Thursday, arguing the fact the U.S. tariffs are lower on energy exports "reveals an area where we have strength."

"When we look at those threats coming from Donald Trump's administration, and you've got the lower tariff level on electricity, energy, critical minerals, that's a tell.… [It's] something that they really, really need," he said. That means for Manitoba, hydro power is "a critical resource that we have," he said.
...

Manitoba Hydro sold $702 million worth of electricity to the U.S. in 2023, according to a Manitoba Bureau of Statistics summary.

"According to the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) the American states identified as importing the most electricity from Canada include New York, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, New Hampshire, Maine, California, Vermont, Nevada and Arizona."

That's the funny part. Donald hasn't thought that far ahead. He thinks that waging war means he will own Canada and that's all there is to it.

The USA will have to beg the Middle East for oil, and in doing so will finance war and terror group expansion in the region. Alternatively, maybe Donald can make a deal with Russia and support a dictatorship.

True - these changes that Canada must make will be permanent. Canada currently supplies oil to the USA at a subsidized discounted rate - a friend rate. As soon as Canada has established new trade partners, the USA will have to pay full market price for Canadian oil. Trump is self-mutilating the USA, and his supporters are cheering him along presumably because it's fun to watch a bully in action.
