Many Australians like to think that we can provide safe haven to people fleeing from war torn countries or those looking for a better life.

And many of those people are a bonus to our nation ... hardworking, contributing members.

Most of us do not support what is going on in this country. The numbers from the election support that. It's just now normal to declare victory a mandate.

I am one of millions of Americans who condemn the repugnance, arrogance, greed and disregard of the current administration's policies and actions against the people of the US.

We will and are fighting back but it is hard under these circumstances.

You have sports announcers like pat macafee that have said some things in respect of the booing of the anthems.

Pat has generated a lot of drama for his actions. He has a way of being deliberately vague, like someone else we know, so that he can claim plausible deniability and shirk accountability.

At the WWE event he was part of he stated:
"It kind of sucks that it's in the terrible country of Canada that booed our national anthem to start this entire thing," McAfee shouted at the broadcast table.

Later, on a podcast he stated, "my reaction when someone boos the nation anthem is..." and then posed for a moment

One can easily interpret that pose to imply violence. And people did. Some people responded with violence by threatening his life.

Now Pat can increase his rhetoric because he is, afterall, a victim of violence (which he started).

We see this same tactic being used to demonize Zelenskyy for not wanting to agree to a crappy deal for Ukraine. So now he "doesn't want peace" 🙄

He's always got drama on his show. But we get it. Unfortunately the 4 nation games got ugly with the booing and both Canada and USA anthems then the beaking off of players on both sides to the media . That led to a lot of backlash . Canadians are ticked at Gretzky and Bobby Orr , trump made it worse with Gretzky .I don't think Gretzky will ever get the respect he got from Canadians back. I would never of thought Canada and USA relations would ever get to this..I'm having a hard time with this because I don't like sounding anti America because I'm not , but anti trump and the tariffs and the 51st state comments , how do we respond with out looking anti American. It's all just a huge cluster <modsnip> jmoo

Wonder who we get as prime minister today and how they will deal with trump. I really hope Freeland and Carney can work together to defeat Trump's drama with Canada. We need to be strong as a country and work together to defeat this. We need all 3 parties to work together on this threat. It's not just a threat to liberals or conservative or NDP it's a threat to all of our country's way of life to who we are and what we stand for. We can't let trump destroy our unity and way of life. Jmhoo

To be fair, Gretzky's behaviour at that game was pompous and disrespectful. I will spend the rest of my life believing that Trump convinced him to do what he did as a way of trolling us.

Anyways, I don't think they should have the anthems at sports games. They didn't before the second world war. Besides, most teams are made up of players of varying nationalities.

Yep.gretzky didn't even rep a Canadian jersey.. and to give the Canada team red be great caps I hope players tossed those in the trash .the fall out in the NHL is ugly. I'm wondering if that's why the tkachuks are both on injured lists ,I wonder how the Canadian team mates are with them. I never thought I'd see hockey so politicized.

Not only that, he came out of the US bench, gave the US team a thumbs up while completely ignoring team Canada, didn't wear a jersey (which I could've looked past if the other nonsense hadn't happened) and then didn't even stick around to congratulate team Canada.

I've wondered that about Brady specifically. His brother is insulated down in Florida (and an outspoken Trump supporter), but I know that Brady has made a statement or two about being surprised and upset about Canadian's reaction. Anyways, last night the entire stadium was chanting his name at home and he seemed touched, so I imagine there's no love lost there.

A few years ago, we saw massive protests across the USA based on race and equality. Last year, we saw the same massive protests based on protecting Hamas and Gaza. Some protests resulted in vandalism of private property, smash and grab, arson, occupation of public property and buildings, and more. This was all live-streamed, and it went on for months. People in the USA had something to say and they stood up for what they believe.

Today, I see comments that some other dude voted for Donald and, even though people are worried about potential political corruption and authoritarian invasion of sovereign countries, there's nothing to be done. Where are all those outspoken voices today - the ones who want to protect warring Hamas from retaliation? Are they not somewhat concerned about their government today?

On International Women's Day yesterday, Canadians in Montreal protested against Donald. There was no looting, but they had something to say about Donald's erosion of women's rights in the USA. Canadians seem to have more to say about the loss of rights to USA women than they do.

Canadians are not anti-USA, but they bewildered that the USA population appears complacent about the war they started with their closest ally.

So true. I hope they realize what trump is doing and how the world is viewing them. I feel like this is going to get so much worse. I hope we can get threw this without bloodshed .

Another Nanos survey highlights that three-quarters of Canadians are opposed to the idea of an economic union with the U.S., where Canada would adopt the American dollar.

B.C. Ferries has been piloting Elon Musk’s satellite internet service Starlink for crew members on its northern routes, but now says an upcoming procurement process will open the field to Canadian providers as well.

“We are assessing all available and affordable connectivity solutions to ensure our crews have reliable communication in areas with poor or no cellular connectivity, including whether Canadian alternatives can meet our needs,” senior communications advisor Sonia Lowe said Thursday.

The Governor of Kentucky said ‘Don’t touch our bourbon,’ and I said, ‘Governor, that’s the first thing we are going after. We’re going after their bourbon,’” the premier said in a speech earlier this week. “Well, we’re the largest purchaser of bourbon in the world for Kentucky bourbon manufacturers—they’re done, they’re gone.”
Speaking to Vassy Kapelos in an exclusive interview on CTV News Channel’s Power Play on Tuesday, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said the trade war is going to cause “significant harm” to people and businesses, including those involved in the state’s bourbon industry.

“These tariffs, which are the result of one individual, are going to cause our prices of gas to go up, are going to cause our prices of groceries to go up, are going to raise the cost of housing all across the United States,” the Democrat said, likening the levies as a betrayal from the Trump administration.

I can say that a lot of the US population is also bewildered as to why there is only a weak response from the Democrats and why the Republicans are in a terrifying Third Reich-like goosestep with Trump and Musk in everything.

I am so confused about Israel and Gaza today. There was some progress, then Trump started making ridiculous noises in the middle of it and now it's all a disastrous mess. I do think Trump would have no problem building a series of waterfront exclusive properties and golf courses on the bones of the Palestinians. Horrible, horrible.

Please don't mistake lack of public protests for support. I know of not one person who supports what Trump is doing with regard to Canada. Not a single one.

I think the lack of protests is many-fold. There are so many horrible things going on that it's almost impossible to know what to protest or get enough people on board. That's done intentionally, IMO. When there are so many horrid cases out there, then people divide their outrage and it seems like there's no meaningful support for one cause.

Many in the federal government have lost their jobs thanks to this administration. Many not in federal government have been laid off due to the economy and inane threats against business. Many are much worse off now than they were even a few months ago and many others are living in limbo to see what happens next with student loans, research funding, education system, vaccines, and fully preventable disease outbreaks that are killing children. America is in real trouble and it's all thanks to this MAGAlomaniac and his asinine sidekick. People are exhausted from the turmoil of the 20s and all the "shock and awe" shenanigans of the last couple of months, and at the same time, on the edge of their seat for the next shoe to drop. It's hard to plan, organize, execute and wide-scale protests under those conditions.

MOO.

From what I understand, the US might import some Canadian cream during ice cream season. Likewise, Canada might occasionally import cream from the US. I don't believe that fluid milk crosses the border from Canada into the US with the exception of emergency supplies of milk formula for babies.
uh why not use what each have...i take your cream then you can take my cream???
