The autism community is scared right now, that's for sure. Anyone acting oddly in public has just become a target.
I think that is very unfair to say. My son is autistic and doesn't act this way. If anything autistic people are the ones likely to be targeted and affected more by actions of Mr. Neely.

Jury entering!
Clerk: How do you find on Daniel Penny on Count 2?
Foreperson: Not guilty.
From Penny said, applause
Judge: Be quiet.
From Neely side: ... gonna be killed..
Judge: Out.
From Nelly side: It's a small world, buddy.. It's a racist country

This country may be divided but it is not racist. DP would have done the same if the offender had been white or brown or yellow or whatever. he saved lives that day. How could a good person of conscience say “gonna be killed? None of this was easy. We’re they saying it to DP or the jury? SMH!

See those shouters didn't hurt at all.

Money always talks louder.

It took 3 million but his funders must be so proud of their work on this case.

all imo
If I could respectfully say two things,
One, MOO, I see this is a rare verdict that actually didn’t predominantly come down to money.
Two, Jade, I wanted to say I’m pretty impressed with you. You have spoken for your position with a lot of vigor and consistency here for months. I haven’t agreed with you, but I respect immensely your fervor and I like that I’ve been able to watch this case surrounded NOT by people who have entirely agreed with me.

Help was absolutely NOT there for Jordan Neely.
I hope that New York City leaders take a look at JN's case and that changes can be made to get the appropriate help for others who need it, and that they find ways to do so while keeping their citizens safe, especially those who have to use the subway and can't take ubers or get to work, doctor's appointments, etc. by other means.

12/9/24

The acquittal comes after jurors heard from more than 40 witnesses, including passengers who described Neely’s terrifying outburst on the train before Penny approached him from behind and took him down at the Broadway-Lafayette station.

One straphanger testified she was “scared s–tless” hearing Neely ranting about being “willing to die and go to jail.” She later thanked Penny for stepping in to restrain Neely, who also raged that “someone is going to die today.”

Another woman on the train told jurors that she feared for her life after hearing Neely’s “satanic” rant.

And a mother who was taking her 5-year-old son to a doctor’s appointment testified that she was so scared of a “belligerent and unhinged” Neely that she barricaded her son behind his stroller.

NOT GUILTY

If there is a mistrial, the manslaughter charge could not be brought again
if the court later finds that the judge wasnt allowed to dismiss charge 1, and a retrial is ordered, could they still not bring it again?

Thats unfortunate. I feel like there should've been some level of legal consequence for his actions, even if it was just a year or two.

I respect the jurys decision 100 percent tho, they put in a lot of time to come to this conclusion

We will need more information, but the reporting so far that we have seen indicates that this was a threat made inside the court room and would clearly be a threat against DP and the jury. Maybe even DP's attorneys. Hope they are getting good security and that charges are filed against the person or persons who made this threat.

Money well spent!
I couldn’t be happier!
Any funds left over, he’s donating to veterans because he’s a terrific stand up guy!

I hope he gets the heck out of NYC and never looks back

Yay, buy off trials! Is America great or what!

I'll believe that there are funds left over when I see it.

There is still a civil case. Like with OJ there is another avenue to make DP and his deep pockets pay.

all imo

Well @fred&edna now you won't have to make a visit to the city.

I hope he is going to show receipts for those donations. Just saying something doesn't make it so.

From the article: "A forensic pathologist hired by the defense testified that Neely died from a combination of his schizophrenia, synthetic marijuana, sickle cell trait and the struggle from being in Penny’s restraint."

IMO, if Neely hadn't been shouting at and threatening the people aboard that subway car that day he would still be alive today. So happy that Penny stepped forward to defend the commuters from this unhinged individual. So happy that he was acquitted.

IMO, this is a major blow for DA Bragg, and rightfully so. The days of this unqualified and overly political individual holding a position of responsibility in a major US city will soon be coming to an end. JMO

This is irrelevant now, but the answer to your question is that the DA could NOT have rebrought the manslaughter charge again. The DA dismissed it, not the judge, and that was after the jury had been charged.

Are you saying that the jury was "bought off"? That suggestion really denigrates the hard and conscientious work of the jury members who deliberated in this case.

With regard to the funds, the owner of the fund has made it clear that the funds will be used for the criminal case and for any civil action that may happen in the future. So yes, there are funds to help Danny with his civil case and attorney fees, etc. I would also hope that the funds may be used for security to protect DP in the days and weeks ahead, for whatever timeframe he needs security detail.

To be fair there was also a LOT of rhetoric supporting Penny as well - from people in powerful positions with large audiences.
I hope you see that even when people disagree with the verdict they can still respect it.
