GUILTY IA - Christopher Bagley, 31, Walker, Linn County, 14 Dec 2018 *arrest*

I cannot believe all this happened over WEED that’s crazy to me I also heard that the people who actually killed him were into meth.. I dated someone strung out on meth and they are WILD! Thanks for posting the search warrant I was trying to find it online all day! Can’t wait for this to go to court and people go away for life for this! It will be interesting to see how much weed he “robbed” the guy of and how much He paid The guys to actually take care of him and if they ever got paid. I had heard they didn’t actually bury his body till around Christmas and that The guy who rents the property had a post on Facebook on Christmas saying he was showing his kid how to use a skid loader at his house and had a pic too!!! How sick!!! I also heard that The guy that lived in the trailer was supposed to be killed too but pulled a gun on The guys after Chris was killed and that’s why he wasn’t killed...will be interesting to see how all this turns out!!

Also I’m new here hope what I said was ok ITS JUST STUFF IVE BEEN HEARING

I'm new here too! I need to read through the policies.
People have said that they could not share FB info, but it might pertain to the Chris Bagley FB group rules, which I found bizarre. Why would this group keep information private and not share anything? There were 150 members a few weeks ago, so it's not as if it's close family and friends. If there were such an intimate group I would hope they would name it something else or have a more secure venue of sharing information.

I think the group your talking about I just joined! They talk a lot about what’s going on and it’s his family which seems weird to me.. I would think they would want to keep all that stuff hush hush as to not hinder the investigation? Maybe they just need to talk about it to grieve? Either way I think about the family a lot and can’t imagine going thru all of this! it’s a horrible thing to go thru.. my daughter goes to school with his son but she hasn’t said anything to me about it yet which is a good thing.. kids can be so cruel.

Wow, okay. I thought about joining it, but was concerned there would be discussions based upon rumors. I've also had a lot of questions about the timeline, actions, and behavior of individuals who may be family or friends and wouldn't want to say something which could be perceived as an attack on them.

There was a letter to the editor of the Gazette when my brother was murdered which made accusations that were based on rumor and lack of details given to the public. I was so angry and wanted to respond, but knew I had to keep my mouth shut. Basically, the opinion stated my brother was responsible for his own death, which was not the truth.

Chris's family is battling this each day, which is horrifying.

I definitely empathize with his loved ones. Many family members run on adrenaline after the murder. It's easier to hyper-focus on the case than grief, I did it for years. It can literally kill survivors of homicide victims.
What I do know is that publicly sharing private information that the police have not released to the media, is detrimental to the case. If it's a cold case or there is no cooperation from law enforcement, that's entirely different, although you still need to hold a few things back that only the murderer would know.
While they are understandably desperate for information, they need to be careful not to alienate those who might come forward or slip up. Pull your enemies closer, no matter how much you want to see a prison door close behind them. Law enforcement may not share further information with the family if they believe it's being leaked, especially in a public forum. Private groups on FB are public, for the most part. I noticed that the police said they were not going to disclose cause of death details yet, after his body was discovered, but immediately following that release, his parents told the media he was stabbed and that they know exactly what occurred. Unfortunately, nobody ever knows the absolute truth. Only the victim, murderers, and those in the room. I'm just concerned some of this will backfire on them. It's a thin line.

I keep saying this, but I really hope they go to the survivors of homicide support group in Cedar Rapids. It was emotionally helpful to our family and the resources to handle the process are priceless. We went to the Parents of Murdered Children conference each year (4 total), met others with similar stories, top investigators, experts in forensics, and grief recovery specifically for homicide. (Young children too) Those poor children, I hope they are all in therapy for trauma. It took me 18 years to understand I needed therapy specifically for trauma.

EP-190319629.jpg&MaxH=500&MaxW=900

Two more people linked to a missing Walker man found buried in southeast Cedar Rapids have been charged with burglary and assault, though no one has yet been charged with his death.

Darian Gossett, 22, of Cedar Rapids, and Morgan Jordan, 26, of Marion, are the latest people arrested who are connected to Christopher Bagley, the 31-year-old found dead March 1 after disappearing in early December.

[...]

Gossett and Jordan are charged with breaking into a Marion apartment. They told police they thought their “missing friend Chris Bagley” lived there, according to a search warrant affidavit obtained Tuesday by The Gazette.

Bagley did not live in the apartment, but another man, who is in jail on drug charges, did.

[...]

A search warrant shows Jay and Sally Podzimek went to check on their son’s Marion apartment Feb. 27 because he was in jail. They found Gossett and Jordan inside.

When the Podzimeks entered the apartment, they found Gossett and Jordan taking property, according to the complaints. Jay Podzimek told them he was going to call the police, and Gossett pushed him to the ground and then ran out of the apartment with Jordan, the complaints said.

A short time later, Marion police found Gossett and Jordan in a pickup in the 300 block of Hillview Drive, according the warrant. They both said they thought the apartment belonged to Bagley and they were going to “clean it up because he’s been missing for a while.”

What we know so far about Chris Bagley's death
[...]

Authorities haven’t explained how the property where Bagley’s body was buried is connected to him or their investigation.

Court documents reveal four people with connections to Bagley have been arrested for drugs, firearms and burglary, but not for his death.

[...]

Who’s Linked To Bagley?
Four people with connections to Bagley have been charged but not in his death:

Logan Gerber, charged in February in U.S. District Court with possession of a firearm — a Glock 9 mm — by a drug user and possession of an unregistered 16-guage shotgun. He is accused of having methamphetamine, marijuana and the two firearms on June 9. Gerber pleaded not guilty on Friday and has a trial date set for May 20.

Paul Hoff, charged this month in U.S. District Court with two counts of possession of firearms by a felon and one count each of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, a complaint shows. Hoff pleaded not guilty last week and his trial is set for May 6.

Darian Gossett, 22, of Cedar Rapids and Morgan Jordan, 26, of Marion were charged last month in Linn County District Court with third-degree burglary and assault, according to a complaint.

Gossett and Jordan are accused of breaking into a Marion apartment Feb. 27. They told police they thought their “missing friend Chris Bagley” lived there and they wanted to clean it up, according to a search warrant affidavit filed earlier this month.

Bagley didn’t live in the apartment, but another man, who is in jail on drug charges, did.

Man said to have "hit" out for Chris Bagley taken into custody after raids
A man said to have a “hit” out for Chris Bagley in a search warrant is in federal custody on unrelated charges.

An online jail roster says 30-year-old Andrew Shaw was booked into the Linn County Jail on a federal U.S. Marshal hold.

Two properties belonging to Shaw, his home on Grizzly Avenue NW and “Andy Shaw Investments” on Capital Drive, were raided by federal authorities Tuesday morning. It is unclear what they were searching for.

Shaw is named in a search warrant executed at the home on Mount Vernon Road on Jan. 8 where Chris Bagley was last seen. The warrant says investigators learned through interviews that “Andy” Shaw had a hit out for Bagley due to an ongoing feud. The warrant continues to say that, “it is believed that Bagley is no longer alive based on these interviews and circumstances surround Bagley’s disappearance.” A woman who drove Bagley to his last known whereabouts told investigators that Bagley and Paul Hoff had robbed Shaw, who supplied marijuana to Bagley to sell.

Another man with ties to Chris Bagley charged with guns, drugs
A Cedar Rapids man with connections to the missing Walker man found earlier this month, buried at a southeast Cedar Rapids home, will be charged later Wednesday in federal court for illegally having firearms as a drug user.

[...]

Special Agent Michael Kitsmiller of the Federal Bureau of Investigation said Shaw, who lives with his wife and two small children, wasn’t home during the search. He was contacted later when authorities searched his business.

Shaw agreed to talk with investigators and admitted to having the two firearms in his garage and the THC cartridges, Kitsmiller said. Shaw also admitted to being a regular user of marijuana and had eaten a THC “gummy bear” in the past two days.

[...]

A woman, who was with Bagley when he left his Walker home Dec. 13, told authorities Shaw was connected to Bagley.

Fairfax man: Rumors are wrong, his son's suicide had no connection to Chris Bagley's death
A Fairfax man, whose son committed suicide in February, is now dealing with unfounded rumors that his son knew the person responsible for Christopher Bagley’s fatal stabbing.

Larry Hanson Sr., 58, told The Gazette on Friday that his son, Larry Hanson Jr., 32, had no connection with Bagley and did not hang himself because of Bagley’s death or leave a suicide note implicating possible suspects.

Those rumors, he said, have spread through the Fairfax and Cedar Rapids area, as well as on social media.

[...]

“This is like a nightmare from hell. I just want to clear his name,” Hanson Sr. said of his son. “It’s bad enough dealing with his death.”

His son left a letter to a person with the same first name “as one of the people said to be involved in that mess,” he said, referring to the six arrests. “I guess that’s how the rumor started.”

Wow...so much new information. I wonder how many people were involved and what all they were actually involved in. If this Shaw put out a "hit" on Chris, and I can't believe I'm using the word "hit" in Cedar Rapids, you did he get to do it? Anyone? Lots of arrests for drugs and weapons, but in the end...who stabbed Chris to death?:eek:

I never understand when a gaggle of people are involved that no one stops it, I get it ...maybe fear...but I don't understand how after they just live with it.

Details of Chris Bagley's death revealed during court hearing
[...]

Christopher Bagley was stabbed to death during a fight over the robbery of a large-scale marijuana trafficker in Cedar Rapids, according to an investigator who testified Monday during a detention hearing.

[...]

Special Agent Michael Kitsmiller of the Federal Bureau of Investigation testified Monday that Shaw and Bagley were friends but after some drug “rips” — robberies — Shaw admitted their relationship “was not good.” On Oct. 27, Bagley, 31, and Paul Hoff, 40, of Cedar Rapids — who also faces firearms and drug charges — broke into Shaw’s business and stole an assault rifle, THC cartridges and a laptop, and then beat up Shaw, Kitsmiller said. Shaw sent Bagley a text message retrieved by one of Bagley’s relatives after he went missing that said “People go missing every day” and warned Bagley to not threaten him.

Kitsmiller said there also was a drug robbery from an apartment in Marion where Bagley stayed, and Bagley told Shaw he needed to give him $20,000 to keep him out of it.

Hoff, after his arrest, told authorities Bagley was at his mobile home Dec. 14 — the last day Bagley was seen alive — and Drew Wagner and Drew Blahnik, who both sold marijuana for Shaw, said they were coming over after learning Bagley was there, Kitsmiller said. Wagner confronted Bagley about the robberies and the two started fighting. Blahnik then took out a knife and stabbed Bagley, Kitsmiller said.

Wagner, who hasn’t been charged, told investigators he had Bagley pinned against a wall and Blahnik stabbed Bagley twice, Kitsmiller said. Wagner also said he was accidentally stabbed in the hand during the incident, Kitsmiller said.

Blahnik told investigators he stabbed Bagley because Bagley had a gun, Kitsmiller said. Blahnik said he didn’t see it but Wagner yelled “gun, gun” to warn him, Kitsmiller said.

Kitsmiller said Hoff claimed there was no gun.

Wagner and Blahnik loaded Bagley into a vehicle after the stabbing and took him to Wagner’s home, 4069 Soutter Ave. SE, where they buried his body, Kitsmiller said.

What the actual.

How do so many people stand around and allow another human being to be murdered?!

This reminds me of Megan Metzger (sp).

How were these people stupid enough to bury him in an associate’s yard?

  • #95
What a mess!!! I wonder Wagner hasn't been charged with anything yet. He didn't call ems, helped remove the body from the scene and assisted with burying the body on the property he was renting. I'm no lawyer, but I'm thinkin some of his actions that day were illegal?!

No charges in Chris Bagley murder, but arrests continue to pile up
While no arrests have been made for the murder of a Walker man found buried in a Cedar Rapids yard, arrests related to alleged drug activity by those with ties to the case continue to pile up.

The I9 investigative team has learned a Shellsburg man with ties to Andy Shaw, Bagley's alleged marijuana supplier, has been arrested on drug charges.

Ryan Gebhart of Shellsburg is charged with possession of a controlled substance. Gebhart was arrested after an April 2 search of 1051 Daniels Street NE. A search warrant shows Shaw rented the property from John Jakobsen on behalf of Gebhart and paid the March rent.

[…]

Shaw and Gebhart were both at the Capitol Drive SW address when investigators searched them on March 26. Gebhart told investigators that he would bring "jello" from the Capitol Drive SW shop and "pour it into molds at the direction of Shaw, as Shaw was providing him with a place to live".

I9 has also found that ten days after Bagley's body was discovered in Cedar Rapids, a warrant was issued to gain access to the cell phone of a Central City woman named Corissa Marti. Marti, the warrant says was one of the last people to see Bagley alive. It explains the last place they spoke was in a trailer, in mid-December, with another man present named Paul Hoff. Hoff allegedly helped Bagley at one point in time rob Andy Shaw who reportedly sold drugs to Bagley. Both Hoff and Shaw are currently in the custody of law enforcement on weapons charges for separate cases.

Two more facing drug charges, tied to Chris Bagley case
Two more people tied to the Chris Bagley case are facing charges, after law enforcement raided the homes they were living at.

29-year-old Ryan Gebhart is facing possession of a controlled substance after the Linn County Sheriff’s Department found him in possession of marijuana at a home at 1051 Daniels Street NE.

According to a criminal complaint, investigators found the drugs, during a consensual search of the home. Investigators eventually obtained a search warrant to search the home, after Gebhart allegedly became agitated and stopped cooperating with the officers.

[...]

36-year-old Corissa Marti is also facing controlled substance charges for allegedly being found in possession of methamphetamine during a raid of her apartment.

According to a criminal complaint, the Linn County Sheriff’s department searched her home at 1127 Crestview Drive SE on January 24th.

According to a search warrant, Marti allegedly told investigators she got the drugs from a man named Paul Hoff, who investigators named as her boyfriend. Documents also revealed Marti was allegedly at Hoff trailer home on December 14th, which was the last time Chris Bagley was seen alive.
