Yeah there seems to be quite a few NJ links. Could be an intentional throw off but maybe not.

I'm not familiar with fake ID's least of all American fake ID's If an underage student was to get a fake ID for instance would they typically be made for the state you're getting it in?
Been following, but just chiming in.

I was in college not too long ago and we were able to get fake IDs made for whatever state we chose. Mine was from Pennsylvania, when I had never lived there in my life and was going to school in Washington, D.C. at the time. So, definitely possible to get a NJ fake without ever having even stepped foot in the state.

The things we did to be able to go out to spend money at overpriced city bars…

And this person seemed very familiar with moving around NY.... also, how does a person from Atlanta get a fake ID from NJ.

Anything is possible on the dark web. I would not think you would have to be in NJ, or any other state to get a fake ID with that imprimateur. However, it might be a less conspicuous source if your ID was from a neighboring state and you were using it for various things in NY or NJ, including getting on and off buses. NJ would not be as memorable as say, Alaska or Hawaii.

He's keeping it all non-memorable, bland, not likely to draw attention.

The fake ID angle is interesting for sure. It is not easy to make a certifiable fake ID anymore. If it was a good enough ID to pass scanners, that potentially brings government actors into play - whether it be as small as a local DMV employee or as large as an intelligence agency in another country.

JMO.
Has it been confirmed as fake or just not his? He could have swiped it while in town at a bar or somewhere. He is a generic white guy and if the only person looking at it was the hostel front desk they may not have given it too hard a look anyways. Hostels are popular for staying semi off grid so they may not look hard on purpose I don’t know.

I know WS folks always have explanations for non-access. Hope someone will chime in. I can never remember phone info.

It's not determined if the phone belonged to the gunman. Police have not yet been able to gain access to the device.

Also, this timeline does NOT include that 5am sighting. Is it
There are several timeline maps. Some don’t show the time we see him and it looks like he’s on the phone and some don’t report the 5 AM sighting. I posted this one because I was pointing out that the time between the shooter being at Starbucks and being seen Talking on the phone was three minutes and someone asked me for the source.

As I said yesterday (just a few posts up) and Mayor Adam’s statements essentially confirmed it today…they have his identify. I don’t think this is a bluff.

Again, reasons they didn’t publicly announce it are obvious.

1) as Mayor Adam’s said, they don’t want to give away the game to the suspect

2) not mentioned by the Mayor, they likely don’t want internet vigilantes to put themselves in harms way

Im not typically a victory lap person (though my wife will disagree) but with all the Jason Bourne stuff and the genetic genealogy suggestions I just had to reiterate this. There’s nothing special about this moron (the suspect, IMO). Even before 9/11, NYC was one of the most surveilled places in the world. 9/11 cranked that up to level 10.

I think they’ve had his name since the night of the shooting. His capture or discovery is inevitable.

MOO
Well, the only way to best GOAT @MassGuy is to come up with wild theories and hope eventually one of them turns out to be true. Otherwise he’s just too fast and too accurate. *shrug* had to try

He also left the hostel and checked back in the next day with the fake NJ ID. So i believe that implies he used a different ID for the nights prior? Or somehow checked in without ID previously? I live in a smaller state and actually was not asked to show ID when I recently checked in somewhere, to my relief because I had left my wallet at home by accident. Maybe the hostel even gave him a pass at first without ID but after a few nights said he needed ID or they’d need to kick him out.

That seems to suggest that the night he spent away from the hostel, he spent elsewhere in the city and at the very least acquired a new ID and maybe other items used in the crime.
I think article wording is to blame here. It's most likely he used the ID to check in on both occasions. It was just the way the article was written that made it seem he only used it on the second stay.

If I were the FBI, I would be spending some quality time in NJ, checking out the coincidences in this story:

1. Fake NJ ID
2. Bus he arrived on that starts in Atlanta also has it's next to the last stop in Newark, NJ
3. Rutger's Law School has the Delay, Deny, Defend book in it's law school curriculum ( the author was on Rutger's staff)
4. Exit timing on bus could also have returned to various points in NJ.
5. He is clearly comfortable and experienced staying in a hostel. He has done this before.

I just have the feeling that the perp is from the Northeast or Greater New York, New Jersey area. If New Jersey, he would likely have made trips into NYC as a student, and probably also stayed in a hostel, although maybe not that one. He was clearly comfortable with the situation in a hostel, and had planned to be as inconspicuous and as isolated as possible. I'm convinced he has stayed in hostels before. He has cash, but he is not spending lavishly. Outside of the weapon, not much more has been expensive, as far as we can say.

ha ha!!
@Herat I just had to have a little giggle with this one....
If I were the FBI, I would be spending some quality time in NJ, checking out the coincidences in this story:

I dunno, I guess we do have to find some humour from time to time in this horrendous case....

I got COVID from my Thanksgiving week in New Jersey, so following this case has certainly filled some interesting hours reading and sleuthing since I am still testing Positive, and cannot go anywhere!!

Hello,
I have lurked for years, thank you everyone!
the photo with perp smiling, also has feminine stance and feminine arm position. I get why some say could be female. I would like to know which photo came first.
The old technology would not recognize you if you smiled. Thats why we were not allowed to smile for drivers license until a few years ago.
But 1 picture smiling 1 not...
The chin and the nose look different to me.
As others said, I would like to know how he sounded, foreign accent? Southern? Jersey?

The blue jacket on BT, I think it's status. Many high executives dress out of the norm to show they 'made it' and can where what they like. They seem to be loud colors or jeans and tees.

If this was someone who was paid to kill BT, who stands to loose the most from BT living? I say Stephen Hemsley.

I saw reports that say perp was walking near 86th and Columbus after being seen riding east on 85th. If this was a paid killing, then a decoy is possible.
Maybe he decided to use all the cameras to his advantage. Throwing a bottle away but only has 1 smudge print, happen to discard right by a camera. Be seen talking on a phone then throw away in an area that has lots of cameras.

I’m not 100% but I think the leg shot came first, then followed by two more shots. From the video, BT appears first to stumble and lose his footing.
I looked at it a bunch of times, and just couldn’t tell. I think getting shot in the back with a 9mm would make me stumble too— it’s really hard to see on my regular phone.

Great thank you for this insight.

Does bring me back to thought of an accomplice or organized help. As others have stated, he would not have been able to prepare his weapon or the bullets with the etched words in his shared room at the hostel. Maybe he acquired all of these items that night he left the hostel from a third party.
It came out a few pages ago that he didn’t actually leave for a night. The hostel has an automated check out system. He didn’t get in that night in time, so he was automatically checked out. It says he checked in the next day, but I’m **assuming** the situation was something like he was out late at night and he returned past midnight - causing him to check back in.

Also, this timeline does NOT include that 5am sighting. Is it questionable???
I don’t comprehend how they still haven’t accessed the phone. It’s not rocket science. There’s very reliable tech that does this in minutes, i. e. Cellebrite.

Maybe he encrypted the 🤬🤬🤬🤬 out of it before disposing of the device? That’s the only plausible scenario, and would lend to him having no worries about the police getting the phone (except for the DNA).

MOO

I had COVID in September. It was brutal. Paxlovid was a godsend.

Take it easy and take care of yourself in the cold weather.
