Apparently they have his jacket.. Was it in the backpack?

"Police now have the jacket the suspect who assassinated United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson was wearing during the brazen shooting in Midtown, and are closing in on the killer, The Post has learned."

I think he lives in NYC and did all that traveling to throw everyone off his game.

Entirely plausible.

That fake NJ ID is a bit risky for a hostel, I have to admit. I've read that hostels do not want locals staying there who will attempt to live there and take up residence, but want to keep the lodgings as temporary for travelers.

Maybe in the TJ Maxx bag…?

Why go all the way to New York and carry out such detailed planning when same person could shoot him in Minnesota on his driveway or something, just doesn’t add up for me
For exactly the reason we have 4 threads already on this site alone for a crime only a few days old. It's brought a very very hot spotlight on UHC and bubbled up the aggressive dislike of most average Americans who have dealt with insurance nowadays. He made it news...he's made these executives pay mind to how America seethes while they take in obnoxious profits and sky high salaries.

He did it to bring this point to forefront and where better to do something if you want max cameras on it? New York City .

It would've been out of news cycle by now if he killed him in his driveway in Minnesota.

Re:VP9 … those are features every “veterinarian” needs … immediately disassemble to conceal!
I heard Anderson Copper talking about this firearm as if it’s a legit for animal doctor to have this kind of quiet gun.
Please think this thru … the manufacturer is calling it “veterinarian” gun so can openly talk about features which are relevant for shooting people!

Horses needing to be shot, at race courses or other places where they break limbs are not typically in a quiet stable where a gunshot would be frightening for other horses. They break legs outside - on the track, or in an arena … which can be evacuated. And the dead horse can be more easily removed. Vets don’t shoot them in a stable where it’s difficult to get tractor or lift to remove the body from a small stall with small door AND get blood all over the stall where another horses will smell the blood.
Wake up Anderson!! It’s not a veterinary tool! IMO …
I am not claiming the gun was ever manufactured for veterinary purposes.
In fact, I argued earlier that the gun was marketed like that to sneak it past censors who might object to a suppressor being built in.

Nobody needs a $5700 gun to dispatch animals. My point was that he may have chosen a gun that was branded as a “veterinary gun” as a bit of irony because the killer may have seen himself —in committing this act of murder— as putting down a sick or wounded animal.

It also happens that this gun is based on guns used by British assassins in World War II, breaks down conveniently into multiple parts for easy concealment and disposal.

That was my argument.

Hello,
I have lurked for years, thank you everyone!
the photo with perp smiling, also has feminine stance and feminine arm position. I get why some say could be female. I would like to know which photo came first.
The old technology would not recognize you if you smiled. Thats why we were not allowed to smile for drivers license until a few years ago.
But 1 picture smiling 1 not...
The chin and the nose look different to me.
As others said, I would like to know how he sounded, foreign accent? Southern? Jersey?

The blue jacket on BT, I think it's status. Many high executives dress out of the norm to show they 'made it' and can where what they like. They seem to be loud colors or jeans and tees.

If this was someone who was paid to kill BT, who stands to loose the most from BT living? I say Stephen Hemsley.

I saw reports that say perp was walking near 86th and Columbus after being seen riding east on 85th. If this was a paid killing, then a decoy is possible.
Maybe he decided to use all the cameras to his advantage. Throwing a bottle away but only has 1 smudge print, happen to discard right by a camera. Be seen talking on a phone then throw away in an area that has lots of cameras.

Does anyone think the distance between the bottom lip and the chin is different in these two photos and also the shape of the jaw line?

The idea that a professional hitman turned up to a job hungry and thirsty is preposterous to me.

I can see it as a place to get out of the cold for a few minutes. and buying the minimum to allow it. It makes me even more convinced there was someone at the hotel or at the scene that he could rely on to time BT's exit to the precise spot where he was shot.

Note that he was time-conscious enough not to order a coffee, that might take too long to prepare.

Sorry I was more ranting at Anderson Cooper & his speaking compassionately about equine injuries and need for this weapon.

. . . “murdery” looking guy.
Snipped and stolen by me forever, @Arkay because I love it and am grateful for a laugh in the midst of this complex, altogether too fascinating case.

The "celebrity" of the elusive, as-yet-unnamed killer seems to have far eclipsed the gravity of his crime and the tragedy it has brought into the lives of all who cared about Brian Thompson.

I've been feeling a tad queasy about what exactly keeps pulling me back to this thread, so your term of art was the perfect fresh air for me.

Yup appears so ..

"Police have not yet recovered the distinctive gun used in the shooting."

Could be the case of just not updating the full story but this article is stating that LE do not have a name for the suspect.

The public at large isn't in danger. This was a targeted attack against a specific person. Still needing to be caught but he got his target and is likely trying to lay low now. He's not a serial killer.

Targeted doesn't necessarily imply 'one and done', and if a suspect is capable of killing a targeted victim he is certainly capable of killing anyone else (even more unsuspecting targets). I would hope that withholding the identity of a perp who has recently publicly executed someone else wouldn't be standard investigative protocol. And no one knows definitively that he isn't a serial killer (injustice collector?) or potential spree killer, so one would hope LE wouldn't know his identity but keep it from the public.

Cunanan's victims were also (eventually) targeted, FWIW.
