Just don’t understand what he was trying to achieve, BT didn’t own the company they will just replace him with another CEO and it will be business as usual, meanwhile he will probably get a whole life sentence in jail or a minimum of 40 years, what a waste of an incredible mind/talent

No sympathy for him, he has robbed 2 young kids of their dad

I wonder if he will get life in prison wihout parole given that he lay in wait which I believe is an aggravating factor in sentencing. Not sure, IANAL and if he is tried in NY state, there sentencing will determine the criteria. I also wonder if there will be some federal charges. If so, altogether I hope he is kept in prison for the rest of his life. That would be justice for BT, his family, and for society.

It is extraordinary how the brightest/sharpest minds are capable of terrible things. A few years ago here in UK a consultant who specialised in diabetes drove a truck full of explosives through the entrance to a Glasgow airport terminal. Fortunately the explosives never went off but it was shocking how someone so qualified, who undertook so much training, who is so intelligent could be capable of such evil and throw away the rest of his life, he is likely to never be released
It's always the smart ones. You can use your smarts for good or for bad. The dumb ones never make it far.

Mangione was valedictorian of the Class of 2016 at the Gilman School and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. His family owns Turf Valley and Hayfields Country Club, NBC News confirmed.

Mangione is the cousin of Baltimore County Delegate Nino Mangione, R-District 42A, the lawmaker's office confirmed.

His twitter is already gone. I saw the screenshot: Handsome guy. Well built guy. Image of pins in spine. MS and BS and computers science
Still up, but you have to search for his name from within X to find it. I think Elon and crew will keep it up. He retweeted a lot of manosphere broskis. Huberman, a guy talking about Thiel, etc.

Yes, and I think even the "wealthy" can have medical costs that really dent into their budgets depending on the ailment. In Christopher Reeve's book, Still Me, he was a famous actor (and probably very wealthy), played Superman but when he had the equestrian accident and became a quadrapalegic, eventually the medical costs (24 hour nurses and much more) really started to get out of hand for him and his family. He became force for change against insurance practices like the kind in this case, even in his immobile state, testifying in Washington and fighting for those in his condition. In his book, he talks about the insurance companies, and how he had to always fight their denials. It's too bad, the alleged killer didn't choose something closer to this type of fighting against the insurance companies.
..and in the book, Superman advised always fighting insurance denials because as he researched that common occurrence, he determined that denials were done often, because the insurance companies were counting on the patient not fighting it further which apparently was the case. jmo.

Mangione was allegedly carrying a 'manifesto, along with a 'similar' ghost gun to the one used in the fatal shooting that may have been made on a 3D printer, along with a fake New Jersey ID card and a silencer. He had arrived in town via Greyhound bus.

The guy is a loser and wasted his own privileged life and trashed any potential contributions he could have made in his field. His message about health-care coverage seems selfish at this point. And two other young men are suffering the violent loss of their father because of this pretty-boy killer.

The tragic disaster of poor quality health care coverage in the US is still a reality, regardless of this guy. JMO. Tens of thousands of Americans die from being uninsured or under-insured. We should also mourn their loss as well.

Health Care, Expensive? Ditto, His Education?

sbm @MassGuy Thx for your post. Is this the right Luigi?

Gilman High school valedictorian in 2016, w plans for degree in Art.Int.?!?*

Health care may be expensive, but what about pre-K-12 education? 2024-2025 $,** but likely was pricey for whatever yrs he was enrolled.

Pre-Kindergarten $21,235
Kindergarten $26,175
Prep-One through Fifth $34,365
Sixth through Eighth $35,400
Ninth through Twelfth $37,690

Not loose coins from under the couch cushions.
For what? Coming to this murder?

"Luigi Mangione, who was valedictorian of Gilman’s graduating class this year, based the speech he delivered at graduation around a similar theme: maintaining tradition while also pioneering innovations..... his favorite class in high school was biology (though his favorite changed from year to year), and he plans to pursue a dual degree in artificial intelligence at University of Pennsylvania. The track includes a degree in computer science and cognitive science, and though Mangione thinks his path may change, he is sure he will be studying engineering in some capacity."

Wow his path sure did change, murderer who will likely die having spent 50 years in a supermax, what a waste

I'm kinda thinking his fanbase might not like him now that they can get to know him. He is not "Every Man fighting for every man" like some thought he was. The Assassin Cheerleading Squad might be disbanded.

But, I have been wrong on this case already and could be wrong again.

I think we are beginning to see the wisdom in not accepting the abuse of anyone.

If the insurance industry begins by taking advantage of groups that are not you to expand profits, there is no reason to expect that they won't want to further expand profits by abusing you, too.

First they came for...and I said nothing because it was not me...until it was me and no one was left to speak up....

Apologies to Martin Niemoller.

Murder is a crime, and I condemn the murder of Brian Thompson.

But if it is motivated by anger at the greedy, poorly regulated insurance industry regarding a service that should not be profit making, well...it is no surprise that the group of people abused, and therefore angry, grows. As it remains true that murder is wrong.

There are two issues. A murder which I hope is solved and prosecuted.

And the problem that the USA has a travesty of a health care system with poor outcomes and business dealings under criminal investigation. That the population of victims of this is growing should be no surprise. Greed and abuse unchecked spread. The spread has to stop, IMO.

MOO

Some interesting things on his alleged Goodreads profile. I did not see the "Deny, Defend, Delay" book on either his "Read" to "Want to Read" lists. He does have a few books on his "Read" list that revolve around back injury and pain.
  • Becoming a Supple Leopard: The Ultimate Guide to Resolving Pain, Preventing Injury, and Optimizing Athletic Performance
  • Crooked: Outwitting the Back Pain Industry and Getting on the Road to Recovery
  • Back Mechanic by Dr. Stuart McGill
Some other things that piqued my interest in his "Want to Read" list
  • Back in Control: A Spine Surgeon's Roadmap Out of Chronic Pain
  • Do You Really Need Spine Surgery?: Take Control with a Surgeon's Advice
  • Healing Back Pain: The Mind-Body Connection
  • Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents: How to Heal from Distant, Rejecting, or Self-Involved Parents
  • Of Boys and Men: Why the Modern Male Is Struggling, Why It Matters, and What to Do About It
  • The Myth of Normal: Trauma, Illness, and Healing in a Toxic Culture
  • Mein Kampf
