Given the degree of damage to his spine shown in the x-ray on his X profile ( x.com ), he might have been, almost certainly was in, really bad pain. Probably all the time. Indeed, to me it looks like he needs more surgery.

So he might have felt his life was already ruined and he could not get healthcare or maybe had to accept only certain job offers that allowed him to WFH.

Pain can make people do really crazy things. And it causes a shutdown in ordinary rational thinking.

Just a guess.
Chronic pain is unbearable. I think very few people understand this. I have no idea if it pertains to this guy at all; however, what you say is so true.

Chronic pain is incredibly depressing and changes one's personality.

TY. So, that person is in for a $60k payday! Kudos to this person. Absolutely despicable to handle his dispute in this fashion. Most people have experienced an increase in premium since the ACA was enacted along with decrease in the quality of care.

I don't understand this kid's mentality; however, he is a danger to society.

JMO.

The exact quotes relating to the guns from the PC:

"The gun is-is it believed to be the gun he used in the shooting? And can you-there was some talk that it was a veterinarian type gun. Is that accurate?"

"No, as of right now the information we're getting from Altoona is that the gun appears to be a-a ghost gun. May have been made on a 3D printer. The capability of fire-firing a 9mm round. Obviously that will come out during our ballistics testing."
It’s crazy but yes, getting parts and milling out a block of aluminum can easily be done to create a ghost gun

As far as a suppressor—you can find online so called “fuel filters” or “solvent traps” that are actually silencers. People are creative

maybe he was so proud of the weapon he built that he hung on to it?

A spokesperson for UnitedHealthcare, of which Brian Thompson was C.E.O., responded to news of the arrest in a statement. “Our hope is that today’s apprehension brings some relief to Brian’s family, friends, colleagues and the many others affected by this unspeakable tragedy,” the statement said. “We thank law enforcement and will continue to work with them on this investigation. We ask that everyone respect the family’s privacy as they mourn.”

Chronic pain is incredibly depressing and changes one's personality. I've dealt with at a couple of different peiods in my life, and I can't imagine a lifetime of it. Really, I can't.
MOO - but I'm beginning to think HE wasn't the one who was having the medical issues.
He had no problems getting around NY on a bike and walking around in the moments leading up to BT's death.

This dude supports a monopoly anyway, his "stuff" doesnt make sense... He supports McDonalds, who basically have the monopoly for fast food restaurants. Several Wendy's are closing, Burger King and others dont do well. And Starbucks, same, they're the monopoly of coffee shops, been to an airport lately? Anyway... moo

New York has a vacant death row and no viable death penalty laws. IMO he won't face DP.
It's possible he may also be facing federal charges and the federal courts still have the death penalty. Maybe state terrorism or something like that.
Either way, I think he will spend the rest of his life in prison.

I'm kinda thinking his fanbase might not like him now that they can get to know him. He is not "Every Man fighting for every man" like some thought he was. The Assassin Cheerleading Squad might be disbanded.

But, I have been wrong on this case already and could be wrong again.

They might find it even more likable. Rich kid sacrifices everything to stand up for the less fortunate in society. Kind of a Bruce Wayne type.

I live with it…it’s my spine and I had surgery. Never thought about killing anyone involved in my care or lack there of.

Yes, I understand. I wasn't really addressing this guy at all, but the poster who talked about the effects of pain.

And, who knows, perhaps it wasn't him with the back problems, but someone he loves?

We'll certainly know in time.

This guy came from a rich and well connected family and was well educated with bright job prospects himself. I don’t think even if he or a loved one had chronic health issues that insurance denial would necessarily be a deal breaker. They could have probably paid out of pocket. So was he just generally mad at the health insurance industry and wanted to have a dialog about it on the world stage?

IMO this is certainly tragic for his family. They have a long history of community involvement.
So he potentially trashed his family's reputation too.

My armchair analysis (which is so worthless I should pay you for it) is that he was at a crossroads in life. He lamented he was born too late to make great contributions like coming up with the Pythagorean theory. I think he's been the charming golden boy for his whole life and now had to make something of himself on his own. And he crumbled. So instead of facing failure (or the challenges success requires), he trashed his potential and now has the excuse of being imprisoned so of course he can't be an achiever. His consolation prize is people think he's Robin Hood.

Imagine if he used all that wealth and intelligence to work in a field that could actually have an impact on the things he was so against. Why not work to try to change what you don't like/agree with? Instead you ruin all these lives and nothing changes?

Maybe he thinks he will get better health care in prison?
Obviously, none of us can say for sure why he did what he did. But looking at some of the authors he likes, he might have thought direct action (even violence) would be more impactful than attempting to change the medical insurance industry through other means.

Both major political parties accept donations from health insurance companies. Take a look at who UHC donates to in its yearly report. How does the public fight greed? When does it reach the Boston Tea Party level? This country needs to have a serious talk (without letting politics divide us) and agree to take positive action for the better of the country before further violence occurs.

I am British so have no experiences with the USA healthcare system but no one deserves to die for doing their job, whether it be a roadsweeper, police officer, C suite exec or whatever, 2 kids will never see their father again that is not right regardless of the morality of his job, hope he spends rest of his life in jail, unreal he thought of as a hero by some
