And this is what pressure on a nerve root does. Even in the UK he would have had a surgical repair (for free)
It might seem pedantic but it's an important point; healthcare is not "free" here, it annoys me when people say that it is.

We pay for it but not at the point of use. The payment is in the form of a higher tax burden. It's actually really expensive!

hopefully this is ok to say-
as a person who suffers with horrible chronic pain and lots of issues with insurance companies denying coverage for surgeries i actually need to keep living... i get it on some level. doesn't make it right. but no CEO should be making 10 million dollars a year especially while tons of people they're supposed to be helping are suffering immensely while accumulating thousands of dollars in medical debt for basic needs. our society is incredibly sick, and that's increasingly obvious. so many are very ill either mentally or physically, and increasingly worn down and miserable. i think this kid was trying to spark a change, and that makes sense to me. i'm not saying CEO deserved death or what happened to him, just that i can understand.
I'm sorry for your pain. :(
JMO but there are many way's to create change. Killing a health care CEO isn't the way. (I'm really happy with my healthcare company). I guess they are not all the same.

Will he plead or go to trial? I can see it going either way based on current known facts. I wonder how many charges NY will put on him. I assume as many as possible.
I can see a mental-health defense put forth by the very best legal team his family's money can assemble. (Health insurance isn't the only unfair system.)

In all fairness, the reward should be split between the employee and the elderly man who apparently spotted him. He is not mentioned as much. He may not have had a phone and alerted the employee.
I was not aware of the elderly man. But I completely agree!

One out-there, totally implausible, but intriguing reason he might have been on a bus and still had the gun with him so long after the crime, was that he was trying to get to the real MR (the name on the fake ID, whose LinkedIn photo looks just like LM,) in New Jersey, to make a murder look like a suicide, plant the manifesto and leave the gun in MR’s hand, and leave the case looking “solved”.. (I know it’s a crazy thought just had to throw it out there once it popped in my head!)

But somehow it was already known MR’s id that was presented at the hostel was fake so even if LM travelled to NJ to murder him, making it appear as a suicide, the case wouldn’t have looked ‘solved’. Perhaps this DL number is not authentic and it’s also known MR was nowhere near NY on Dec 5th, 2025.

I looked at a family photo in an article about all of the grandkids being delivered at the same hospital. I couldn’t pick him out-at least ten of them had the same features.
I'm not sure that LM had 10 siblings?? I thought that it was his father with the 10-sibling family. I don't know how many bros and sisters LM had??

If I were the employee making the call, I would insist that it be split. I mean, the employee probably didn't even recognize the suspect!

I thought there was no such person in New Jersey, that NYPD already checked out that person's name.

This is very interesting

Worried loved ones reached out to the Ivy League graduate named as a person of interest in UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson’s killing days before the executive was executed outside of a New York City hotel.

One of Luigi Mangione’s loved ones shared a message on X to let him know that he cared about him and “missed him” on Nov. 25, a day after the shooter was believed to have arrived in Manhattan on a Greyhound bus.

“Thinking of you and prayers everyday in your name,” wrote user @Collin30923201P on Nov. 25. “Know you are missed and loved.”

Another suggested that loved ones had been concerned about his whereabouts the month prior.

“@PepMangione Hey, are you ok? Nobody has heard from you in months, and apparently your family is looking for you,” wrote X user @TheRealMandusa on Oct. 30 on the platform.

Yeah, interesting. Seems to have gone dark on SM also. Knowing he arrived nyc late on 11/24 (the last stop being Baltimore, four hours away and where the tony Towson family compound is), I figured he prolly originated from there, after saying good-byes (and maybe printing a weapon).
Estranged, psychotic but a last look at the good life nevertheless.

This video clip is being shown on an ABC station from Alabama. It shows the killer waiting on the street prior to crossing to commit the murder. I have not seen this angle before. Only the video of him actually on the sidewalk.

Family: The suspect is the grandson of Nicholas Mangione, a prominent Baltimore real estate developer, and his wife, Mary C. Mangione, a philanthropist who died last year. The Mangione family owns Lorien Health Systems, a nursing home chain in Maryland, and Luigi volunteered there in 2014, according to his LinkedIn page.
Fascinating— I would love to know if Lorien accepts UHC Medicare Advantage plans and if they have had problems getting reimbursed.

It will be interesting to see if his head is up and smiling for the cameras or if he says anything.
My guess is no. He has a very rich and successful family. What a nightmare for them. I mean, this kid went to the best schools and lived a good life. His parents have (had) a $1.9 M mansion in a golf course community that was owned by the family. Sister is a top doctor. The family owns all sorts of real estate and businesses. They have to be shocked. Still, I bet they hire the top lawyers for him.
