Likes on his fb page include The Italian Club and Armenian Students Association at Penn, so maybe that's the family mix? I remember some writing about Middle East facial features.

He completely outwitted the NYPD, FBI and everyone else and then blows his cover eating at McDonald's. It's like he was ready to be caught. May be why he had the manifesto on him.
I absolutely love that it was a Mcdonalds worker who recognized him and got the reward
while no one else came close.
seems fitting

I am not sure why the surprise. I predict he was very polite and cooperative, and will cooperate with police. I wonder who will take his case and if he will plead guilty. I wonder if he will plead guilty off the bat. IMO he may.

IMO, I think it will be found he obtained the weapon set-up due to research regarding criteria he wanted, and then trained or researched how to best use that weapon. Same with the planning, routes, and transportation choices. Whether he had further plans, or what he was doing hanging around Altoona PA, I don't see any information available that points either way on that.

Someone in the last thread brought up his private high school and why would he be worried about health care costs - why shouldn't he see what a great deal of America has to go through?
Why should any of us have to go thru it. You know, the pendulum swings, ppl start realizing how much food costs and they can't even afford to get sick. So, insulin is capped at 300 per month when it costs 10% of that to make. Talk now of covering everyone with ozembic. It's gone crazy, and the pendulum physically has to come back. I am really sorry this young man threw his life away, and would hope that his family is being researched for recent health fiascos. The ONLY good I can see is that Americans will see that this kid is literate, well spoken, brilliant, and, I hope, expressed the truth in his manifesto, not some gooblyde unibomber blather. So sad for the victim, for the perpetrator and both families. IMHO

I don't think he wanted to get caught: I think his arrogance did him in. After escaping New York rather easily, he thought he was home free- Arrogance does quite a few killers in.

Why on earth would he keep the gun?!? This guy's Goodread's list is eye opening! What a brain. Lots of AI, environmental, two of Musks books, Vance's book, several Harry Potter books (5 stars), the Uni-bomber manifesto and The Lorax (5 stars). 200+ on the list.

Did the police say this or did Adams say that?

Components or ghost guns can be 3d printed, but they can also be assembled from parts purchased online.
My thinking is that the frame/receiver was 3d printed but that he purchased the more complicated components like springs and certainly the barrel online. You can't make a 9mm barrel out of plastic on a 3D printer. Plastic won't contain 25,000 psi of pressure.

Tidbits from John Miller on CNN:

Manifesto:

Opening: Had to be done, these parasites had it coming.

I don't want to cause any trauma but it had to be done. Talks about problems with health industry. Why most expensive healthcare but rated number 42 in life expectancy.

Masters in engineering.

Cold-blooded stalking and murder is not the solution.

How did this benefit anyone, other than perhaps make his name infamous?

He comes from a very intelligent and successful family, and was trending that way himself. He’d probably have gone on to make a fortune in his field, and now he’ll spend the rest of his life in prison.

He seems to break the mold in a lot of ways (apparently not antisocial, no criminal record that we know about), seemingly well adjusted, very, very intelligent.

Seemingly a solid family background. No obvious signs of mental illness at this point.
Really is sad to see someone with such intelligence and potential to do something so terrible and throw it all away. I don’t expect to get any reason that will ever justify taking another persons life. There is nothing that can justify murder. I just hope one day they give the public some insight and answers as to how someone with that much potential turns into a murderer.

Not much to add with this article, though it kind of does dive into his personal life a bit.
But this quote stands out, "Mangione had a particularly personal reason to hate the medical community — its treatment of an ailing relative, sources said." Then lists his loss of a grandmother and grandfather.
