Because he felt strongly enough about the injustice and wealth inequality in american society that he decided to act
That's not acting because it's absolutely never going to change anything. Murdering people because they are somewhat connected to something you disagree with is just a stupid idea to get your point across.

It's basically just childish tantrum making and spite.

Chronic pain is unbearable. I think very few people understand this. I have no idea if it pertains to this guy at all; however, what you say is so true.

Chronic pain is incredibly depressing and changes one's personality.
This is true. And it can very easily lead to addiction - I've seen that with a friend of mine. It DESTROYED her life and the lives of her children. Hers started with back pain and soon a "regular mom" was an addict.

But, BT's murder did not relieve anyone's pain ... but certainly added to the pain in the world.

(FWIW, I understand the ire toward health insurance companies and the damaging stress it causes for families. BTDT. I don't need a lecture on it. Murder doesn't solve the problem.)

So many saying "why didn't anyone who knew him call it in?"

I have no doubt many people did call in and LE had a good idea that LM was the shooter. But it wasn't until the McDonalds tip came in that LE knew where he was.

This link confirms his family riches and connections
I am so conflicted as I read more about this young man. He obviously grew up privileged, ivy league educated, a strong family with means. How did this happen? This wasn't a snap decision. Really confused. JMO

Imagine if he used all that wealth and intelligence to work in a field that could actually have an impact on the things he was so against. Why not work to try to change what you don't like/agree with? Instead you ruin all these lives and nothing changes?

Maybe he thinks he will get better health care in prison?
He may have tried.

He's basically a kid, though. One who by the sounds of it has led a pretty sheltered and cosseted life. High level education and confidence in public speaking is not the same is not the same as intelligence in the form of critical thinking and making rational decisions.

My grandfather had a saying about well schooled, intelligent people who basically had few life skills and ability to cope with life......educated beyond their intelligence
He's 26. That's not a kid.

Still up, but you have to search for his name from within X to find it. I think Elon and crew will keep it up. He retweeted a lot of manosphere broskis. Huberman, a guy talking about Thiel, etc.
When this first broke I expected it to be a group from Silicon Valley, like Thiel and Chamath and Sacks. This seems close.

Edit: not them per se, but with the same SV ethos.

I am very local and his family is incredibly well known. Not sure what I can say without sources but this situation will be incredible when the details of his family come out.
Very sad for his family. Hope they continue to have strong support in their community. Including his cousin who is apparently a candidate for state office, if I understand the news correctly. They are not responsible for the murderer son.

Have I missed any romantic partner mentioned? Ever? I may have missed it, but through all the social media nothing clearly shows anything but pictures with friends.

They didn't know his name until today, it was mentioned in the presser.

He will have a certain appeal to many.

To me he looks nothing like the photos PYPD released and I would never have picked him out at McDonald's.

What a catch by that person.
I did not see "Italian" heritage. From what had been released. Now, yes, from his sm posts.

Not really, his act has really brought the topic of these health insurers and their greed into mainstream conversation. Heck even people from the left and right are finding common ground on their hatred of these insurers!

According to a link on his Facebook page, he has a Wordpress blog, but it's set to private. Loads of pictures on his Facebook page. Strange that investigators haven't pulled his social media sites down yet. Private Site

There were a lot of people who knew him, but it took a brave person at McDonalds to make the call…
That person knew where he was, obviously pretty sure it was worth making the call. Others such as his family and friends, did NOT know where he was.

And.... a similar big shout out to the poster who stated that he was way too "non grungy" to be Antifa or an anarchist.

Thinking that though anybody can buy an expensive back pack as a prop, or ditch the habitually worn Trump fanware, or say, torn black jeans and / badly tied Keffiyeh scarf, its far harder to change one's core look-no matter who we are.

Rather, that look is part of who we are. Efforts to change that core look look probably take time and thought or the end result is going to be "badly done disguise" vibes.
And while some of us thought he was foreign, there was talk on the threads about him being an American from the elite class, with refined mannerisms. That was right too.

Yes, I understand. I wasn't really addressing this guy at all, but the poster who talked about the effects of pain.

And, who knows, perhaps it wasn't him with the back problems, but someone he loves?

We'll certainly know in time.

He was reading books about surviving back pain. The x-ray on his profile looks to be a male of his age and size. He has quite a bit about pain and healthcare on his want to read, including quite a few more books about surviving spinal injury.

I would bet my bottom dollar that he had back surgery.

Just a guess. IMO.

"We don't think there is any specific threats to other people mentioned in that document, but it does seem that he has some ill will towards corporate American," Chief of Detectives Joe Kenny said.
Who is Luigi Mangione? High school valedictorian ID'd as person of interest in CEO killing

so the "manifesto" did name others. Wonder who.
Wouldn't the threats be gone if they have the right person in custody? I doubt someone would pick up where he left off. Although with that said... there are crazies out there and I can see copycats who would want to "continue his work". Due to that I HOPE they redact all the names of the others mentioned in his manifesto when/if they post it. JMO
