MOO but I think he may have initially intended to flee the country but abandoned that plan for whatever reason (possibly spooked by the media coverage?). Especially since I read in an earlier post that he had a passport in his name on him when he was arrested.
Yes @citizen_sleuth seems likely. And one would surmise maybe he had not yet had time to secure a passport in someone else’s name?

What has been released thus far shows IMO clear planning, premeditation, calculation, and attempts to confuse and evade being located or apprehended. Even including carrying a supposed ‘Faraday’ bag when apprehended?

Personally difficult to have any compassion or sympathy for the alleged assailant. That however is IMO reserved for the slain executive, his family, children, and friends.

And hope that any state and federal charges can be lodged against the accused. So that he is not a free individual again. Ever. Seems he has revoked that privilege for himself by his own actions IMO. MOO

With a passport and all that cash, I'm really surprised he didn't flee the country. At the very least though, he was keeping his options open.

He was a passenger on a bus that stopped at McDonald’s.
You can still get the food and go outside to eat though. Sitting down, opening his laptop, spending longer than he needed, how did that make any sense?

What is a "bag to block cellular data" ?
A Faraday bag. I’ve considered purchasing one to put all of our car keys in after a rash of thefts in my neighborhood. A friend bought one by accident (she thought it was just a cute small purse), and could not understand why she was not receiving phone calls and texts.

Why did he even sit down? Get the food and go.
I think he wanted to peruse the web. No mention of them confiscating a phone so he may not have gotten one and was traveling in the dark when he couldn't use his computer. He was probably killing time and reading about himself.

do we know what he was doing in Altoona? Like did he disembark there? I’ve read the McD’s was a rest stop for the bus, but would he really have the time to go inside, get food, and set up his laptop?
Watching the press conference now, he went to Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and other points in PA. I’m interested to hear where he was in or around Pittsburgh.

First the Trump shooting, now this. My city has made the news too often lately.

Wealthy family.
I was referring to his answer to the cops who found the money on him in the McDonald's.
He answered he didn't know. Nobody accidentally happens to find $8000 in the their pocket!

If a person like him who seems more than upper middle class can suffer due to healthcare costs cant imagine how things can be for others.
We don't know that he has suffered due to health care costs though. Has it been said that claims of his were denied or that he didn't get the care he needed? If it has been posted, then I haven't seen it.

Nah, it was 9am...egg McMuffin and a hashbrown. Those hashbrowns are delicious.
What I don't understand is the sequence of events. The arresting officers said that they found the suspect in the back part of the building sitting there with a face mask looking at his laptop.

My questions: Was he still riding the Greyhound or was this his final destination? If he was still on the Greyhound, what was the ultimate destination? Is this McDonald's a normal stop on the way? Are the bus riders forced to exit the bus during the stop? I'm thinking they must be forced to step off of the bus, or he would have remained on it.

JMO.

I don’t know, but would it look weird if you had been riding on a bus for hours to get your food to go?

Maybe he was tired of running. Didn’t want to live the rest of his life on the run? Although he would surely have the means to do it comfortably!

MOO

His face really changes more than most in my opinion. The booking photo and some others with a slight chin up give him the more attractive quality posters have been talking about. From other angles he appears more average. Some saying I see men that look like him everyday on NY streets, nothing remarkable. Of course the different masks changed how much we could see. Looking at him sitting without his mask on eating at McDonald's, he probably looked just like that hostel photo (camera looking downward) that was widely circulated. Thank goodness that employee had the gumption to follow through with a call to LE.

He could have sat outside to eat it, that would make more sense.

So at this time, they can’t prove he did it…. But they can’t have him leaving the country or anything so they have to slap him with the other charges.
Pretty sure they can prove it in a court of law!!

Blair County district attorney Peter Weeks said in court that Mangione was carrying a passport and $10,000 in cash — $2,000 of it in foreign currency.

Mangione disputed the amount.

He was also found with a box of masks, the prosecutor said, the AP reports.
