Great-grandfather who couldn’t read or write and then his son becomes a very wealthy land developer and owner of multiple high-end clubs as well as nursing homes, etc.

Philanthropic family and buildings named for them. Politician in the family.

How very different it would have been, had Luigi felt that health care was a corrupt industry (it is) but worked from within his family’s empire to improve things, rather than murder another man who presided over stingy health care insurance.

I'm puzzled by how someone suffering from chronic back pain could go on such an odyssey which could be very physically painful: Riding on rocky buses for very long distances, sleeping on slim mattresses in hostels, rushing away on a bike and riding it at warp speed through Central Park, carrying a backpack that must have been quite heavy with the gun. I have had severe back and neck pain in the past, and I could hardly get off the sofa and walk upstairs to my bedroom.

Seriously though... what sort of foreign currency? It sounds like he was going to potentially leave the country. Although, I don't know what took him so long. Why was he still here? Trying to throw them off his trail and THEN leave the country? As opposed to a straight line from where he killed BT and wherever it was he was planning on going. Italy?

My opinion is that he might have wanted to go back to Japan. There are photos of him there, and his social media seems to show an affinity/fascination with the country and culture.

Did I read upthread here (or somewhere) that a customer at McDonalds recognized him and told an employee, and the employee then called the police? If that’s so, then the customer deserves a good chunk of the reward money, and if this is correct, he is wise to stay quiet and away from the media! Does anyone recall if that was initially reported?

He may have been on serious painkillers. He could even be addicted.

I think he worried about airport surveillance after the killing.

Maybe the plan was to go to another country and only speak Italian and pretend to know a little English? Like maybe somewhere south of the border? IDK, but I'm sure they're checking his finances because to live alone in another unfamiliar country he would need more than $10,000. Maybe has an off shore account? He was taking his time if the plan was to leave the US. Something slowed him down, or he was never leaving. Wonder if he was surprised that LE didn't have his name. Maybe he thought they were closing in, when in reality they were not. Clue will be the $2000 in other currency.
