If someone is struggling to pay health bills, you probably aren’t prioritizing a payment to a hitman.

True. Perhaps though someone could hire a hit man for $5,000 or $10,000 or something but not afford medical care that would cost several hundred thousand without coverage???? Just speculating.

Just speculating here, too. The killer could be any ethnic background. I just feel like something in the eyes looked Russian but it’s a total guess. Two of my grandparents were from the Russian Empire and just something felt familiar in this guy’s face.

Perfectly happy to be wrong. All I want is for this man to be caught and imprisoned.

Also as was stated by the panel on Anderson Cooper, particularly by John Miller, the NYPD was getting surveillance footage from everywhere that borders Central Park and then a widening perimeter. He had to escape the park somehow and they hope to find a trail of footage. Somewhere along the way, they separately saw surveillance footage from the UWS that they believe may be the suspect; leading them to think he maybe, perhaps, might, possibly live there as he seemed to be carrying an e-bike battery.

Hoping he’s found by tomorrow.

If this guy isn’t in CODIS, and in my opinion, he’s not, what are the options here for DNA matching - genetic genealogy? I presume law enforcement or military people don’t provide DNA, and if they do they couldn’t just run it through the entire database. Fingerprints are a different story, I guess?
Yeah, DNA would be big in confirmation once he's identified, but wouldn't get law enforcement to him quickly. That's what the video and cell phone evidence will likely do.

I feel pretty confident he will be tracked by some footage and also that someone will call in a tip for the reward money because there is no way this person didn't tell at least ONE other person to get credit for his deed.

John Miller:

5:15 Upper West Side video shows suspect carrying a battery for an e-bike. He may live in that area or just started in that area.

Trying to get into cell phone. Have to get past passcode. Even if it’s a burner it will be big. Could also be his phone that he dropped accidentally.

Shell casings can be run through system to see if they showed up at any other crime scene.

Found complete bullets that could have DNA or partial print. Will have to wait for lab results, so video canvas is what they can do right now.

Seemed to be pretty skilled. Shooter stance. Two hand grip. Clears jams really quickly. Suggests someone comfortable and experienced with firearms. Could be law enforcement, military; someone not new to this.
Or possibly someone who is 'into' that stuff? Sees himself as a trained assassin on a mission. Trains himself to handle weapons? Spends lots of time at the firing range. Lots of time watching gun videos?

Someone with a HUGE grudge? (against the victim or his company)

No question (IMO) this has all the hallmarks of a hit.
if we are playing the odds it’s way more likely this was a personal issue than a revenge killing by or on behalf of a random disgruntled UHC policyholder or investor. I find the hacking thing really interesting but the idea that an international cyber gang did it seems even more remote.

So now I’m coming back to his personal life. In hindsight the wife’s NBC interview was weird. First of all, how was she composed enough to even do it so soon after the murder? Second, if you watched it, didn’t it seem strange that she jumped right to a possible explanation (previous threats based on insurance coverage denial)? Now we find out there may be a divorce situation happening behind the scenes? Very much worth looking into. MOO.
do you have a link? I searched but can’t seem to find this and I’m curious. Thanks in advance!

Is the reward still at $10k? Wonder why UHC hasn't added to this.

It’s generally a bad idea at this stage, and I wouldn’t be surprised if law enforcement told them not to.

Right now they’re probably receiving a crazy amount of tips, all of which will have to be followed up on.

Throw in a massive reward and you’ll have all sorts of crazies coming out of the woodwork. I think that’s better left until later, although I don’t expect it to come to that.

How do you leave a message on a bullet casing?

In my opinion, they should be adding to this quite significantly.

I've never seen it, but I guess you could scratch one into the brass or use a thin nib permanent marker that could stick to metal.

Thinking about this post a bit more...

What company provides health coverage to NYC police? To police in surrounding areas? To the military?

I still find this case too messy. Too many things dropped to be likely police or military.

Strange. Why would one do this?

Who was buying United Healthcare stock in months leading up to BT’s murder……

But I'm not sure what the motive would be here.
A CEO is murdered and the large shareholders would benefit?
That would only be the case if they thought he was a massive hindrance to the stock price.
Having said that, the stock price did go up after BT was killed.

I'm still having difficulty seeing this as a motive. Most of those stockholders are large institutions holding the stock in large mutual funds. Definitely not worth killing over.

Why is he, the CEO, walking solo to an event that has been publicized without a security detail. Especially after threats have been made.

I'm not sure... I've noticed that military services sometimes write messages on missiles that are about to be launched. But a case from a 9mm cartridge is rather small.

I checked and do not see where this has been posted. I apologize if it has.

They’re the worst. They did this during the first Trump assassination attempt too, casting aspersions on an innocent person in the audience.

They’re doing the same thing here, albeit a bit less blatant. Of course the article, which many people won’t read, says this:

Who is the mystery woman?

Footage of the attack shows a figure, who appears to be a woman dressed in dark clothing and holding a coffee cup, fleeing from a doorway as the assassin opens fire just meters away.

We do not yet know who this person is, but there has been no suggestion that they were involved or knew Thompson.

Indeed, they appeared to be surprised by the shooting, cowering in a doorway when the first shot rang out, before making a run for it.

Police will no doubt be desperate to identify this key witness.
