People are (right or wrong) angry about medical insurance horror stories but I'm not sure how someone would know the identity of the CEO - who isn't living in NY and UHC's main office also is not NY - and knew enough to know down to which door he was going to exit from and could identify him from the back.

The investor meeting details weren't a secret. A smart person could easily track the CEO to the hotel. He's a public figure.

And it's not wrong to be infuriated when your child is denied a life-saving treatment by their insurance company.

The shooter had a 9mm gun, legal in NYC if licensed. Maybe he pulled the gun on someone in the park to force them to hand over their Citibike. We'll see if any Citibikes were reported stolen recently.

This was carefully planned to a point. But cameras everywhere guarantee a flawed getaway, suggesting to me that once the killing was complete, he didn't care what happened to him.

I think he'll be dead by evening.

Would have been easier to get him back home in Minnesota than in crowded Manhattan in the middle of an investor conference. NYC means the potential list of suspects expands which may be what the shooter (or whoever ordered the hit) was after. I would look closer to home/work for potential suspects. JMO.

I'm not very familiar with how these bikes work but don't you need to use a credit card or some electronic payment to use these? Plus the GPS, although it was probably ditched quickly. Seems quite stupid for the killer to use this method of getaway.

FWIW (probably nothing) but as i peruse similar backpacks, the ones that most closely match the suspect's gear appear to be marketed more toward women ('diaper bag with easy access from top' and a woman in ad). Obvs the suspect could very well be a man and just selected the backpack for the size and function. Just interesting. MOO

...Someone close to him would have probably just hit him in his home state, where it would be much less risky. This person may have known he’d be there thanks to press releases.

It would still probably require advanced surveillance though, and I don’t know how he’d know that this guy would be outside his hotel at this particular time.

Just speculating here: If it is family related, the person may choose an out-of-state hit to create distance. In any case, the police will look at all family member phones; however, I would think,with such extensive planning, disposable phones would be used.

This seems to me to be a hit that took many months of planning. The hired hitman was experienced and familiar with New York City. It seems that there was a lookout at the CEO's hotel to alert the assassin. These people surely are expecting a big payday.

I actually think that a hit by a disgruntled patient would happen in his hometown, not while he was away on a business trip. It looks like a paid assassination to me. Disclaimer: I am often wrong!!

“We’re still tracking video. The last we see with him on that bike is in Central Park,” Kenny said. “There are GPS on those bikes. We’ll be working with the company.”

I actually kinda think the opposite.

Like you said, the getaway was flawed, but it does seem to be decently planned out - that plus the use of a silencer (which I believe decreases the “performance” of a gun in some ways?) suggests that getting away was as important as ensuring the target was dead.

I don’t know what this is, but I’m leaning away from it being a disgruntled patient/family member.

Wow it looks VERY similar to the first one you posted.

But if that is the correct backpack it also appears quite a bit smaller on the shooter than on the model… the shooters stature may not be as slight as some have suggested.

Just a thought.
If there are clothes in the backpack, maybe they are work clothes. Maybe the suspect works near there. He changes into work clothes and goes to work afterward.
