Wow it looks VERY similar to the first one you posted.

But if that is the correct backpack it also appears quite a bit smaller on the shooter than on the model… the shooters stature may not be as slight as some have suggested.
It is not smaller when the shooter is standing (just like the model). Seems to be the same stature as the slim female model. Only appears smaller when the shooter on the bike.

If he did have a change of clothing, did he dump what he was wearing and the backpack, or take both with him? It would be quite a task to check countless dumpsters, unless he dumped his stuff near in/Central Park.
His belongings would have his DNA.

Appears to have gloves on holding pistol.

Could be personal - I'm thinking of the CEO who was killed in San Francisco. Too soon to tell, really.

I’d agree; someone had to catch the victim outside that early. Meaning, the shooter knew that Thompson would be passing by sooner or later; perhaps was standing there, waiting for a while. Certain familiarity with the schedule, I guess.

Is the shooter wearing white gloves? If so, they won’t be able to confirm the gender or race with just these grainy pictures. Seems rather petite but can’t say anything beyond that.

So anybody who hasn't been to the city in a while, those ebike are lying everywhere and GPS in downtown barely works due to the buildings. They will have better luck in Central Park, but as some LE have said- all he would need to do is change is clothes in the bushes and walk away.

They way they are going to catch this guy is with his phone or his EZ pass/Plate Reader.
The murder occurred outside the Hilton Hotel near 6th Avenue and 54th street; that's midtown Manhattan, not downtown.

I see what you’re saying. I still think it looks smaller in the standing picture, but yeah not by nearly as much as it looks in the one on the bike.

They said light skinned male, and that wouldn’t be a guess. In the video there’s a witness standing right there, so maybe they verified. Or maybe there’s better video that they haven’t released for some reason.

There's definitely a very lucky eye witness! Whoa.

MIDTOWN, Manhattan (PIX11) – The CEO of UnitedHealthcare was killed in a Midtown shooting Wednesday morning, sources told PIX11 News.

Brian Thompson, 50, was shot just before 7 a.m. near a hotel on 54th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues, sources said. Video posted to Citizen showed police tape on the Midtown street as police arrived at the scene.

He was rushed to an area hospital and later died. Thompson was in New York City for an investors meeting at a Hilton hotel, according to sources.

The shooting is being investigated as a possibly targeted hit, sources said.

Do you think it could a case of an insurance policy wouldn’t pay out and this person has been upset?

Wonder if the pedestrian who briefly witnessed the shooting would be able to give any description as the shooter was wearing a mask. Maybe could identify whether male or female.

Generalizing- anywhere there are tall buildings in NYC, GPS on your phone and car is wonky. Also inside buildings you are typically out of luck. It may be difficult to locate the e bike outside of central park.

Perp got there from somewhere and went to somewhere- they might have better luck catching them using a vehicle or train to get onto the island of off of it.

I think this is a local person though.

Would have been easier to get him back home in Minnesota than in crowded Manhattan in the middle of an investor conference. NYC means the potential list of suspects expands which may be what the shooter (or whoever ordered the hit) was after. I would look closer to home/work for potential suspects. JMO.

yeah at this point it's hard to know why it was done in Manhattan. Perhaps suspect is from the area and just didn't want to bother going to Minnesota. I'm not a killer but the psychology of doing it in Manhattan has pros and cons to me -- i mean in a busy area there are so many cameras and potential for witnesses it just doesn't seem smart to me. But then again, the congestion of the city could also work to your advantage in a way perhaps??

My only issue with this is that Thompson wasn't from New York and UnitedHealth is based in Maple Grove, Minnesota.

He was in New York for UnitedHealth's Annual Conference so there wouldn't have been a schedule - other than the past couple of days, maybe - to be familiar with, really.

His shoes are very distinctive to me too. The soles look to be thick and white.
Good observation.

As a side note, a lot of competitive level running shoes feature thick soles filled with hi tech rebound boards, special foam, and carefully placed air pockets. White soles are a common color for these types of shoes.

Going off on a limb, but....

Serious runners of any age and any level can be pretty fussy about their shoes. This leads to them usually wanting to try them on in person- often at running specialty stores.

These specialty stores are small, staffed by experienced employees who are usually runners themselves. Getting the right shoe can be a relatively involved process. Likewise, it can include buying special sole inserts, nifty socks etc. And... serious runners, especially distance ones, can go through shoes pretty fast. The end result, can be alot of interaction time with the customer.

Sprinting to the point....

If the murderer is a serious runner, there is a good chance that he could be recognized by the employees of a specialty running store- providing they can determine where he is from.

My apologies if this has been addressed.

The e-bike. Do you have to pay in order to use it? I would assume so but am not sure. Can you pay anonymously?

Also, I understand that the e-bike has GPS.

GPS not a huge deterrent since the e-bike was just a partial part of the escape plan. Curious about the payment options and tracking.

I believe this was targeted but no opinion on the motive of the attack nor if the shooter's motive was personal or professional (paid hit).

yes you have to pay to use it and you can't pay with cash in case you never return it, so a card has to be used

however, the bikes can be "jail breaked" so it could possibly be a useless lead

''Investigators recovered several 9 mm shell casings from outside the hotel and a cellphone from the alleyway through which the suspect fled. They were also searching Thompson's hotel room and interviewing his UnitedHealthcare colleagues, Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said.
Thompson’s wife, Paulette Thompson, told NBC News that the executive told her "there were some people that had been threatening him.” She said she didn't have details, but suggested they may have involved issues with insurance coverage.''

The NYPD spoke with reporters Wednesday about their ongoing efforts to find the gunman who shot and killed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson earlier in the day outside a New York City hotel.

I am leaning towards a paid hit. The execution slightly resembles me of the 2006 Moscow assassination of the Far East Governor Tzvetkov. That was over licences for industrial fishing activities or something like that, but the assassin was just waiting behind a newspaper stand across a very busy street and shot across the street with multiple pedestrians. I can imagine that Midtown New York presents the same kind of problem due to people around. I would like to know how good of a marksman the shooter was (how closely cropped were the shots.) The closer, the higher the chance that it was a professional. The victim being the part of the probe seems a valid reason to me. A disgruntled client would be more desperate and won’t follow the victim to NYC, it seems. Also, the assassin looks young (quite flexible). I’d expect an unhappy patient to be from a little bit older age group, although it could be a very young parent. But something prompts a professional hit. Also: a CEO of a medical insurance company is a natural target, but if it is over a personal case (denied treatment), I’d expect the victim more likely to be the person signing the last denial of appeal letter. He’d become the personal enemy.
