He wasn't necessarily arriving well before he needed to. Often CEO's show up shortly before an event and get their final prep. Reminders of what to say and what not to say. It's possible that he had a meeting with PR staff at 8 am. So his arrival time wouldn't have been super early. These senior execs are super busy and they rely on their staff to give them updates and reminders of key talking points.

But the main point remains. How did the perp know that BT would show up at that entrance. Clearly he didn't know the exact time, as he hung out in the area well before the shooting. But he easily recognized his target. So who was the shooter?
100%. Just posted something similar. As a speaker he would and should show up an hour early. He would have likely been directed to do so by the planning team who wanted to make sure he was ready to go and potentially walk the stage beforehand. Why the sidd door?

I don't know if this will get solved IF this was a hired hit.
I think back to a case in my area some years ago, where a prominent attorney involved in a major contentious corporaremente case, was assassinated in his driveway. A quiet cul de sac, one way in and out, no vehicles or persons detected on cameras, no noise. Killer had presumably hiked up the canyon in the back. It was never solved.
But circumstances and environment were different of course, and here it does seem there were mistakes.
remember this case? video... speculation... unsolved

To be honest, I'm way more comfortable believing this guy didn't know specifically when BT would arrive, and just happened to time it relatively well. If someone else had been keeping tabs on BT, then there's a good chance they'd also show up in surveillance footage at his hotel.
Absolutely agree. I think this guy knew about the meeting and went there super early to ensure he would see BT.
But how did he know about the side door? Had he stayed here before? Had he watched previous investor day meetings?

Reports said he left via Ziegfield Alley, which I'm assuming is 6 1/2 Ave (between 6th and 7th). It's right by the Hilton, on other side of 54th. I think he left the bike unlocked there during the killing and then rode up 7th Ave into the park. Speculation.

My guess wasn't correct. Seems the shooter went on foot up the alleyway to 55th then to 6th Ave (aka Ave of the Americas) and hops on a bike. He then rides up to Central Park (which is on 59th).

I'm now thinking he stashed the bike near Starbucks. (The officer calls it a CitiBike but seems like that isn't right?)

Escape info starts at about 5:47 here:

Maybe that’s why I’m questioning. It looks quite long but obviously the silencer is adding to the length. It just looks strange.
I was looking at that too, if you look closely, it's blending slightly into the base of that pole, so I think the meshing of the two is making it look disproportioned.

The words "deny," "defend" and "depose" were discovered by detectives on the shell casings found at the scene where Brian Thompson, the CEO of major insurance group UnitedHealthcare, was gunned down, police sources told ABC News late Wednesday evening.https://abcnews.go.com/US/unitedhealthcare-ceo-shooting-suspect/story?id=116460289

NYPD detectives are working to determine whether the words were meant as a message from the shooter and a hint at his motive.

I wonder if he knew the color of his jacket as well. He identified Brian in the low light of early morning. That blue jacket was really unique.
The vivid blue jacket is giving me weird vibes.....I don't know why, really.

political, anti-establishment, anti-corporate?
Or rile up people against insurance companies, executives to create social turmoil.

I fear the shooter will be praised as doing worthy work as a vigilante.

I really, really, really hope I am WRONG to worry about that. This shooter was not justified in taking someone's life.

That’s been a leading theory of mine; some sort of anticapitalist.

This ain’t some hired hit, it’s some sort of ideological thing.

Nope, I guessed wrong. He was not on the way to the airport. The conference was scheduled to start at 8am TODAY. Sure looks like someone knew he'd be in that spot at that time.

"UnitedHealthGroup started its annual Investor Conference at 8 a.m. Wednesday, which was scheduled to run until 11 a.m. An official ended the conference early around 9:09 a.m."

Two avenues..

1. Someone holding United Healthcare responsible for a death and wanted revenge.

2. An investor who feels scammed, duped etc. He was at an investor meeting. Investors and company peeps would know he’d be there.

I’m following the money right now.

your first point makes the most sense, but my first thought was your second point. Some incel Robinhood investor that has lost money investing in the company.

WOW.

JUST IN: NYPD detectives discover words "deny," "defend" and "depose" written on shell casings found at the scene where the United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson was killed, police say.

Wow. “Deny,” “defend,” and “depose” — seems to confirm the speculation that the murder was ideologically or politically motivated.

Looks to me like the “deny, defend, depose” may be similar to “delay, deny, defend”, which some argue are tactics insurance companies use to avoid paying claims:

I am speculating the suspect has a grievance with UHC.

I've been pondering the side door.
I have been to many (too many) business conferences. When I've approached the conference hotel I choose to enter via the closest entrance to the conference meeting rooms as opposed to the main lobby check-in area. So I'm presuming that is what BT was doing. After you've been at the same hotel for a few conferences you get to know the lay of the land. You know the short-cuts and where to head to register for the conference. As the CEO Brian wouldn't have had to 'register' as he was the key sponsor of the event.

But the killer also seemed to know the conference 'short-cuts'. hmmm.

Right...and there may be more targets planned.

The NYPD continued to track down several good leads in Thompson's killing late tonight, three senior law enforcement sources told NBC News.

No arrests have been made.
