Prosecutor: "Spartan would be a kind characterization - there was virtually nothing there, nothing of evidenciary value was found" (of BK's home and office - when searched six to eight weeks after the murders).
I still don't believe BK ever planned to return to WSU hence the drive back by car with all/most of his personal belongings.

"Are you pleading guilty because you are guilty?"

"Yes"

I had an unexpected wave of emotion come over me when he said yes, made me a bit tearful.

Really wasnt expecting that reaction at all. Just goes to show how invested we have all been I think.

Wow….I got back to my car at 1:15 and it was just starting, so I was able to watch the entirety of it while sitting in my parked car.

I haven’t read any comments yet so I’ll go look now.

My impression was that the Judge as usual was very clear and thorough. He was not pleased with the efforts made to sway him into anything.

Then watching Bryan answering “yes” to all the murders and the felony burglary charge was unreal.

I know court requires a certain decorum, but looking at Bryan’s face and demeanor and hearing his voice, he sounded as nonchalant as answering “yes” to “do you want cream in your coffee?”

I know it’s court protocol to not be emotional, but from him I didn’t even see him gulp.

JMO and now I’ll see what everyone else thought.

I watched the plea hearing today and though my opinion doesn’t matter at all in this case, I feel that the right decision was made to accept the plea for LWOP. I read somewhere that it was going to be much harder to get a jury to agree to a death penalty conviction in the state of Idaho now that they have adopted the firing squad as the primary method of execution. I don’t know if that’s true or not. I do understand how others would feel like they want him to pay the ultimate price and I have to admit, if it were my family member, I’d probably feel that way too.

This case consumed my reading and posting on here when it first happened for months. It got to the point where it was very unhealthy for me to be involved anymore and I didn’t log on to Websleuths for over a year. I was on Websleuths almost daily from 2012 up until last year. I also skipped reading any articles about the case.

Anyways, I haven’t read this forum yet so I’m not sure what the consensus is at Websleuths and have probably made a bunch of people angry. Heck, I don’t even know if the regulars I used to talk to are even here anymore! (MassGuy, Steve P, Seattle1, OldCop, Allabouttrial just to name a few off the top of my head :))

Watching him in court today, I became even more convinced that he had to be taken off the streets forever, no matter what. He poses such a danger to society.

I'm very satisfied with this outcome.

I just don't have any faith in juries to get it right at all right now.

A jury trial may have given us a few more evidentiary answers, but not much more than we already know. It certainly wouldn't have given us motive. It wouldn't have told us what he did with the knife.

A jury trial wouldn't even necessarily have given us a conviction, much less a DP sentence.

Weighed in the balance, the big loser in this plea deal is BK. Which should be celebrated.

It's a win for all of his victims, past, present, and future.

Because make no mistake, there would have been future victims as well...people who now will be able to live out their lives without ever crossing paths with this monster.

Still haunting to hear how long prior to the crimes the knife was purchased. Almost a murder trip out west. It might be best in terms of quelling potential anger/frustration/sadness if additional details were withheld - not sure anything positive would come of it. I do understand some desire the story to be told - for me, I just see it fueling anger inside.

Time to go check on my furry buds. Not liking how I feel right now.

That is a different look than I have seen in other court photos. IMO, he was wearing a mask before. Now he shows a harder edge. More like I would expect from a person who did what he did.
Right? It's almost like he is now relieved that he can just go on... and be himSELF.

Ethan was sleeping in Xana's bed. Ethan was no danger to detecting or challenging BK after he'd murdered Madison, Kaylee, and Xana. And he stabbed him to death anyway.

Another notch for his murder post.
IMO Ethan upset Bryan too. He connected to the router many times, and was likely watching them as a unit after a point. I can imagine him thinking ‘why does a guy like him get to live the life I want, while I don’t?’

MOO. I think he disliked that he was always on the outside looking in, and while his focus may have initially been on one of the victims, after repeatedly stalking them, they almost became a tableau to him, of all the things - community, friendship, popularity, fun - that he felt he was ‘denied’. I feel like BK has a very incel-like mentality, and rather than making an effort to be a normal and outgoing person, he punished people that were normal and outgoing.

If he had been found guilty and sentence to death, he would not have had to admit, in open court, that he murdered Maddie, Kaylee, Xana and Ethan with premeditation. The plea deal required him to ADMIT WHAT HE DID.

I've always thought a jury might have found him guilty, but he would have gone to prison swearing he's innocent and like Scott Peterson, appealing and agitating for a new trial. The closest thing to real accountability is BK admitting he killed each and every one of these beautiful young people. There was no other person to arrest, no SODDI. Yes. He killed them all.

Just caught up after watching live.

Gosh.

Absolute robot. He couldn't give 2 f's. Stood with his chest puffed out 🤢 Answering with yes's that reminded me of when you're in a meeting and couldn't care less in what's being said but want your superior to think you are interested. He doesn't give a damn.

He's played one of his last power moves with this plea and is relishing in it. The next and hopefully last will be holding onto what actually happened in that house that night. He knows the families want to know and he knows that he holds the power there.

I cannot stand him. Horrible gangly freak.

I didn't like the way people sat behind the prosecution were looking over to their right very obviously towards the victims families who weren't on camera. I know it's human nature to look for reactions, I just found it icky.

23rd we will all be here. We will listen to the heartbreaking victim impact statements from the families of the 4, the survivors and the Kohbergers, who are victims here too. We will get to see this ghoul sentenced to spend the rest of his miserable life in a cell with no parole or appeals... Then, we are so very fortunate to be able to close the thread. We move onto the next horrible crime and hope that the perpetrator in that one gets justice served. We get to move on and forget this rotten to the core monsters name and face, but we will remember Ethan, Xana, Maddie and Kaylee 🖤

I didn't know that he ordered another knife to replace the one he killed with.
Chills me to the bone that he would have killed again had he not been caught. That and the thumbs up selfie he took, convinces me that he would have continued....as a serial killer.

If it's any consolation to those who really wanted to see a DP sentence in this case, I think BK will have a huge bullseye on his back in prison.

Unless he's put in solitary 24-7, he'll be living in a state of constant fear.

The hunter is about to become the hunted. Hate to see it.
JMO.

Entered, went to 3rd floor, killed M and K. Left sheath next to M. Blood contained BK DNA and blood from M and K.
Is this how he killed them?

First, Xana Kernodle, then Kaylee Goncalves. Went downstairs and killed Madison Mogen and last was Ethan Chapin? Will we ever know who the real target was?

MM and KG first and second, XK third, and EC fourth.

I didn't understand it that way. I understood it as he killed Madison, then Kaylee, then Xana, and then Ethan. Can someone else confirm? Thanks
