The Australian prime minister, Anthony Albanese, also spoke to the media in Canberra just a moment ago. Referring to Ukraine, Albanese said support for the nation is “an issue of doing what is right but also what is in Australia’s national interests”.

The brave people of Ukraine led so extraordinarily by President Zelenskyy are fighting not just for their national sovereignty and for their democracy, they are fighting for the international rule of law.

And it is an easy choice that Australia has made – it’s a bipartisan position that Australia has had – we have contributed $1.5bbn of support, $1.3bn of which is military support.

Yeah? he gets on ok with other leaders. Unlike Trump and Vance
I'm not sure what Zelenskyy was thinking when he created that mess in the Oval Office. JMO.

As leaders finished their talks in the UK, the war in Ukraine continues. A Russian drone struck a multi-storey apartment building late on Sunday in Ukraine’s second largest city, Kharkiv, triggering a fire and injuring eight people, the city’s mayor said. Reuters reports:

Of course, I figured if things didn't work out for p, he was going to scorch earth as he does anyway. The people and buildings NEVER meant a thing to him all along, just the OWNING of the land. Clearly.

I took a generous view on this - no blame. It was a culture clash, and a misunderstanding with both men seeking entirely different things IN ADDITION to the minerals deal.

What Zelensky was asking for was nothing more than the US agreed to in the treaty of Budapest - protection and safeguarding, after giving up their nuclear weapons.

My opinion, he Zelensky is a pushy man, choosing to fly and beg for money, weapons and security than spending time in his country helping his military. He is not a hero, the true heros of I il8 this war is exhausting and needs to finish. Part of it - that the draft has been hard on Ukrainians, that young people are killed - is true. They hoped for peace.
In the beginning of the war, that was the person at his place in his time. But the war is hard and needs to end. Where Trump was right was how hard the draft is on regular young Ukrainians. It is one thing to talk about it here, and very different to live there.

And here comes the question of the people at the negotiating table.

Zelenskyy is more of a tragic figure, courageous no doubt, and if he leaves now, he'd leave a hero. He doesn't want to, I understand, maybe he, too, has developed self-glorifying complex or just feels that he is Ukraine, but give or take, it will not be the last set of negotiations. US has helped a lot, think of what happens if all of it is suddenly withdrawn. But now, US probably won't want to see Zelenskyy at the negotiating table, Russia won't for sure.

I listened to Ukrainian analysts and I think they were disappointed.

Keeping fingers crossed that the end to this war is in foreseeable future.

What and just sat there and been insulted and not react? It does not work that way. Oh and incidentally when he went to see the King he wore the same sort of clothes. HE did not say a thing !
I think that Zelenskyy was treated firmly and fairly. He <modsnip: name calling> knows that going forward he needs to do better. JMO.

He DOES spend time in his country. An awful lot of it in fact but was called to America for the ambush by Trump. Had he not gone he would have been wrong for that also.
Since late last summer, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky has been traversing the globe in it at a breakneck pace to appeal for arms and money. Between Sept. 15 and Dec. 14, 2023, Zelensky’s airplane logged 61 flights totaling 172 hours in the air. That included six trips to Washington, D.C., along with visits to Ottawa and Toronto, Canada; Granada, Spain; Bucharest, Romania; Brussels, Belgium; Berlin and Frankfurt, Germany; Malta; Paris; Shannon, Ireland; Cape Verde, Africa; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Brasilia, Brazil; Curacao; and Oslo, Norway.

I don't think that is spending a lot of time in his country. And advising and keeping in touch with his military.

Zelensky asked to come to the Whitehouse and speak to President Trump and sign the deal, Trump was surprised that he was coming, but he agreed.

He is trying to get fund for his country! Shocking! You also forget to mention that he has to attend meetings, has been invited to different Parliaments etc and hell Starmer has probably done that since July

I'm not sure about that. I am sure about my own opinion.
which is great but hes getting more support now than hes ever had.

French President Macron and UK Prime Minister Starmer appear to be pitching a 1-month air and naval ceasefire in Ukraine. Would not cover the frontline, but would stop air raids by both sides.

Would be followed by a second phase involving European troop deployments to Ukraine.

You have a fixed opinion on this which presumably won't change, but others don't agree. I took a middle ground - I think the whole thing was a mess and they wanted different things.

But surely you have to agree that the trouble was started by JD Vance. The photos Zelensky produced were a very minor part of the whole thing and the topic moved on very quickly. They came up because there was talk between Trump and press about what assistance the Us would give. Zelensky was asked to speak and out of four things mentioned, the fourth was assistance with exchange of prisoners, which they had done and Russia had breached. That is when the photos came out. Trump nodded. But the conference moved on to a different question.

He really doesnt. Two leaders in two days Vance went at. Not good enough tbh

I have zero problem with other people having a different opinion than me.

Zelenskyy should not have brought up issues that should have been discussed later behind closed doors. JMO.

That does not excuse what happened. It just does not.
