The summit in London was dedicated to Ukraine and our shared European future. We feel strong support for Ukraine, for our people – both soldiers and civilians, and our independence. Together, we are working in Europe to establish a solid foundation for cooperation with the United States in pursuit of true peace and guaranteed security.Europe’s unity is at an exceptionally high level, one that has not been seen in a long time.We are discussing with our partners security guarantees and the conditions for a just peace for Ukraine. A series of important meetings and decisions are being prepared for the near future.I am grateful to all our friends and partners for their efforts in bringing about a stable and guaranteed peace in Ukraine. Joint strength can protect our future.

Love to see this.
What a difference it makes when leaders who are civil with each other meet.

The four-point plan consists of:
  1. Providing ongoing military aid to Ukraine and intensifying economic pressure on Russia for as long as the war continues
  2. Ensuring Ukraine’s sovereignty in peace negotiations, with Ukraine guaranteed a seat at the table
  3. Creating European safeguards to prevent any future Russian invasions, should a peace agreement be reached
  4. Forming a “coalition of the willing” to protect Ukraine and maintain peace in the country.
Starmer reaffirmed the UK’s commitment with “boots on the ground and planes in the air,” emphasizing that “Europe must do the hard work” while acknowledging the need for US support.

The UK, France, Canada, and other European nations – a total of 19 leaders – have agreed to develop a “plan to end hostilities” with Ukraine, which would then be discussed with the United States and implemented jointly.

Yep. I think Zelenskyy learned his lesson. JMO.

Good. Sadly #47 is not capable of leading the free world and until we (the US) get our country back on track, other world leaders do need to take the wheel. Hopefully we'll be back soon! IMO!!
Thank you @Stunned …. this is sadly quite true.

And in other parts of this thread, I was appalled to see Mr. Mike Johnson, speaker Johnson, apparently positing that Mr. Zelensky should resign……. SMH.

Unbelievable conduct on a world and national stage.

In actuality, based on the conduct and behavior of the president and vice president in that meeting, IMO they should offer to resign first.

And if for no other reason that such talks should be held in confidence and without press pools in attendance.

There is I believe an often cited quote that should be considered by all IMO. And there is disagreement on whether it should be attributed to Abraham Lincoln, Mark Twain, or is it another making reference to IIUC a biblical quote. I will leave that question to literary and other historical scholars. That I am not. The quote:

“Better to Remain Silent and Be Thought a Fool than to Speak and Remove All Doubt”.

MOO

Starmer announced a loan of 2.2 billion British pounds ($2.8 billion) to support Ukraine, funded through the freezing of Russian assets passed on Saturday. He also highlighted a new deal that would allow Ukraine to use 1.6 billion pounds ($2 billion) in export finance to buy missiles made in Northern Ireland.

He is the President. He is speaking for US foreign policy. He is the official voice of America.

Whether we agree with him or not.
No, I think not. He has crossed a line between what being an American used to stand for and well him and his cult. Before= not a cult. After=definitely a cult. IMO!

A short statement from Buckingham Palace said: “This evening, His Majesty The King received the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in the Saloon at Sandringham House.”

The two heads of state had first met in 2023 at Buckingham Palace. Last year, on the second anniversary of Russian’s invasion, the king issued a strongly worded message of support for Ukraine, speaking of the “indescribable aggression” faced by Ukrainians and hailing the “determination and strength of the Ukrainian people”.

This is excellent news.

I hope that Europe will also step in with Canada to fill those now-huge critical "Soft Power" gaps such as the foreign aid in poorer nations. If not, I'm quite certain that those vacuums will now be swept up by China, Russia et al.

And, as soft power goes, it is critical to the hard power and it's projection. A place to park your troops and kit if necessary. That's where you gain your intelligence from, make your friends and attempt to keep your enemies in check and out of the territorial-expansion business. Lest they come for you next.

IMO.

Well, Congress seems to be eerily silent so ...........

That's great. Now if they'll just come up with the money a military support. I know your country is helping. Do you think your country will send troops to help support a peacekeeping operation? So far only UK and France have offered a few troops.
Moo

I don't know why you keep asking the same question over and over. I have provided the best answer I have, at the current time.
When UK troops enter Ukraine we will see what Australia (and Canada) does. They will likely not be revealing private and tentative plans at the moment.

Canada will simply regroup. We already have forces deployed in Latvia and Poland. Training Ukrainians. A shuffle and a force generation away.

Isn't Australia facing an election soon? Canada is. A leader at the end of their term can't put anything like that in stone.

And I think everyone, especially Trump, needs to accept reality, this was never going to be solved in 24 hrs. OR 24 days, or 24 Weeks.

That was just the feverish dream of a newly elected president.

Yes, as I have stated, we have soldiers in the UK at the moment. Training Ukraine troops. Australia hugely supports Ukraine, the people, the Govt, and the Opposition all do.

It is not a huge leap to us sending more soldiers if the UK requests our help. As long as it doesn't leave us defenseless against China - which is always breathing down our necks, especially in times of global distraction.

If Zelensky is not happy with the deal he needs to walk away. No, he wants US military support. Trump cannot offer him that. Only Congress has the authority to enter a war or declare war. He needs to cut the rhetoric and move on to another plan. No amount of demanding is going to put US troops on the ground in Ukraine.

He wants our US taxpayer dollars, but doesn't want to give us anything in return. The deal won't provide repayment of any previous funds. It does benefit the US, creating potential for the US to enter technological manufacturing. Currently everyone's having to use China.

Moo
If Trump has no authority over Congress (LOL!) then Zeleskyy is being offered a raw deal that he should move on from. He is being offered a distraction deal by a <modsnip: name calling> when he needs military security.

WHOA !!!
Did Zelensky call JD Vance a 'b**** *advertiser censored**' under his breath during Oval Office attack from Trump's VP?

Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky has sparked suggestions he branded US Vice-President JD Vance a 'b****' during their explosive White House row.

Viewers of the televised 45-minute dispute - with US President Donald Trump at the centre - believe he muttered the insult under his breath.

Mr Zelensky is said to have uttered 'Suka, blyat' in response to Mr Vance criticising him for an alleged lack of respect, during Friday evening's confrontation.
....
The slang phrase, also spelled as 'cyka', is variously said to translate in English as 'son of a b****', 'b**** *advertiser censored**', '*advertiser censored**ing hell' or '*advertiser censored** you, b****'.

The Ukrainian president was seen crossing his arms in dismay as both Mr Trump and Mr Vance laid into him, before Mr Zelensky was sent on his way from the Washington DC summit sooner than scheduled.
Probably not. But I would not blame him. Vance is a <modsnip - namecalling is not allowed>

Everyone should read the Reconstruction Agreement put forth by the USA! It's clear to me that the USA and Russia have a deal to hand Ukraine to Russia. It is pretty much stated in the agreement if we understand that Russians, not USA or Ukraine people, will be extracting resources for the USA ... when they get around to it.

Ukraine will put 50% of all financial wealth into a fund that is 100% controlled by the USA. The USA has the right to invite investment in Ukraine, meaning Russia will be invited to run the government, prisons, as well as all privately owned assets. Zelenskyy is wise to insist on border protection, and anyone who cannot see this is unable to understand the fickle agreement drafted by the USA government.

It's not surprising that Trump had a infantile shouting match meltdown when Zelenskyy stated what Ukraine needs in exchange. Trump thought he was showing off for Putin while he took advantage of Zelenskky.
Do you have a link to the reconstruction agreement please?

What happened in Oval Office 'best left to history,' Zelenskyy says

Zelenskyy refused to say what happened after the cameras stopped rolling in the Oval Office on Friday, and before he abruptly left the White House without having lunch or signing the minerals deal.

It has been reported that Trump’s team asked Zelenskyy to leave, though the Ukrainian president said it was best “to leave this to history”.

He is a very classy guy. History will sort out the heroes from the villains. Trump and Putin will not be heroes.
