That was my thought too, and I still wonder if he perhaps saw one or more of them at WinCo initially, and somehow followed them home. I can imagine them doing a late night beer run if a party was going on at 1122 King Rd. JMO
I think this the most likely.
A weird dude at the store.
Maybe totally forgotten when being royally greeted getting back to the party with the beer and snacks.

We have studied and speculated about bruising, punching someone in the face would likely bruise those knuckles imo, punching people in the face generally hurts.
He was allegedly trained, somewhat, how to punch. There is a proper way to punch someone which minimizes potential hand injuries. Anyone who has trained in boxing or martial arts would likely be given this information in week one, proper way to make a fist, thumb placement & area of fist on which to focus the actual punch (usually first 2 knuckles of index & middle fingers).

If he punched while holding the knife handle, this might somewhat solidify the punch.

The main point in my post was that the absence of a star app on BK's phone doesn't have any significant meaning.

Yes, a person could have a planesphere for their latiude which would show what constellations would be visible in each season of the year and at what time of the night, but if you have been stargazing for a few years you pretty much already know what you're looking for and where in the night sky.
Driving around at night is a pastime, and it really needs no justification.

What BK needs is an alibi.
Having or not having a star apps/map is pretty irrelevant to an alibi.
It is only a topic because AT brought it up, and the father of one of the slain students wants to emphasize that BK does not have an alibi.

I look forward to hearing just HOW Turvey has come to the conclusion that Xana and Ethan were attacked at the same time. Because one person can't go back and forth between two victims? Because a murderer can't use a threat of violence to one victim to control the other victim? *insert eye roll*
It's very likely that BK neutralized and/or killed EC with a single strike, which if he was surprised to see a young male in XK's room, he would have certainly tried to do, MO. If it happened right in front of the doorway, with the room being quite small, XK would have been terrified and cornered. One dertermined and physically capable person, in a sudden middle of the night terrifying attack situation, has the advantage. AJMO

Do we have any evidence that BK had a history of star gazing?

Because it would be hilarious (in the middle of a case for which nothing is funny) if BK took up star-gazing that very night/morning on a notably foggy night, "confirmed" with a photograph he took a different night but  didn't have an appreciation for how the night sky moves or how keenly LE can dissect metadata.

It's beginning to look like the only person who can tell that star tale at trial is the defendant. Because he doesn't have any actual evidence to present.

Dec 2021 to Jan 2022 He applied to WSU.

Jan 10th He buys black balaclava.

Feb1st to Mar15th He is ccepted by WSU and applied to PPD.

March 20th-30th He buys Ka-Bar, sheath and sharpener.

April 1st Emails suggest Kohberger was one of four candidates being considered.
At the time of the emails, Kohberger was finishing his Master's degree program at Desales University in his home state of Pennsylvania. He subsequently moved to Pullman, Wash.

April 12th final interview with PPD

July 9th to Nov 7th between 10pm and 4am He was within 100 meters 23 times of that house.

In M00 does it look like going to Washington was all all an elaborate plan to murder someone?
OMG, I am so far behind. LOL Sorry if this has already been discussed. I wanted to chime in on this though since I live in WA.

Growing up here, it seems we've always had a serial killer reputation. Ted Bundy being the most notorious. However, we also had the Green River Killer (Gary Ridgeway), and don't forget, Israel Keyes. There are others for sure as I remember one from Spokane, WA but just can't recall names. I remember people thinking it must be the gray, dreary weather in the PNW.

Is that why he applied to WSU....Ted Bundy and the reputation of the PNW for serial killers? IMO, WSU was part of his bigger plan. Wonder when he decided he wanted to become a serial killer? Before DeSales? MOO

One point of clarification, about BK finishing his Master's program -- isn't it true that he kind of didn't? Didn't complete his thesis -- in fact, didn't have any data, as I recall -- but was moved forward to graduate anyway. I wonder if the university is looking into his diploma. Wondering if BK, staring intently, provided a convincing snowjob -- couldn't complete his work because they don't have crosswalks where he grew up, couldn't complete his work because all q8 of his grandparents died, couldn't complete his work because no felons contacted him, couldn't complete his work because he couldn't get a prison research pass without notice, couldn't complete his work because it was bogus from the get-go -- he wasn't interested in how felons chose their victims or what evidence snagged them -- he was fascinated with his own burgeoning morbid fantasy, the practice and study of his own criminal psychology. Already accepted into the PhD program at WSU, did BK bluff his way into receiving his Master's? Seems to me he fully intended to complete his thesis in the field. 1122 was his project.

Sick.

JMO
There are project-based, coursework-only, and thesis-based master's degrees. Sometimes students who can't do the track they were on can switch to another track they can graduate from. Sometimes they leave without graduating and go to a different school. Basis: MOO, I work at university graduate school.

Very good point. He must know the sky quite well to know where through the fog to look. I think his gazing was more likely limited to objects much closer to the earth & could be seen day or night in many instances.

Maybe other contents of his phone will show his interest in this hobby in other ways. I fish quite often, therefore my phone is filled with dozens if not hundreds of photos of fish, places I’ve gone fishing, people with whom I’ve fished. I’d expect his phone or computer to have plenty of images of constellations &/or planets in the night sky, or places he’s gone for observations, selfies, framed photos of personal images around his apartment or room back home. Maybe routes travelled in PA if this hobby began years ago, search history or Google Maps searches for places to go view the night sky. Wouldn’t a person with access to university facilities seek out a potential observatory or ask professors or colleagues?

Wouldn’t be a very good look for a hobbyist of a few years to not have a suitable camera &/or lens, dozens of images capturing favorite memories &/or visualizations, or even a telescope. Singly, it doesn’t prove much but added to other circumstances, it may be an additional burden which just adds suspicion at the very least, for a hobbyist of a few years.

Know what else is good for star-gazing, besides good fog? a waning gibbous moon to give good light should the fog lift. A washed out sky, perfect.

If someone hasn't posted it yet, I've gotten Sillybilly's permission to post the interview. This guy's YouTube videos are not to be posted, but the one with SG is approved.
There is new info in here. Some was shared by MassGuy.

SG said there was discussion between Idaho LE and FBI as to who would proceed with the investigation and trial. It was decided it would be Idaho. The reason was the FBI couldn't pursue the death penalty but Idaho could. 🫨

Didn't catch this on the first listen.

SG: why's he got a shovel in the back of his car?

That shovel? Not for snow. For dirt.

IT HAD A TIP.

Welp.

I think Feds always go second to add their charges and try and catch the case federally if something goes wrong and it falls in the local jurisdiction.

And of course as every stargazer knows, fog can be a deterring factor.

It was reported as foggy and icy that night so I call BS

That could be. But SG made a point to say it was because feds couldn't pursue the death penalty. And Idaho could.

It really makes me upset that lawyers think because BK was/is on the Spectrum he couldn't have committed the murders in XK's room alone, so it wasn't him. He was a trained boxer, which train for dodging ability and footwork, armed with a commando knife designed for hand to hand combat and as a utility tool. My Dad carried one as a Bushmaster in WW2, jungle warfare in the Pacific. It's a very destructive weapon. EC had no chance and XK even less of one, my stricken opinion 💔

Many people buy a mini survival shovel for their car emergency kit.
Multiuse.

I believe the proof AT mentioned were some photos of the countryside on his phone. These supposed photos however, were not taken on the night he needs his alibi to be, they were taken on some other night jogs. I have never heard of pretty countryside photos only being taken in the middle of the night, and nighttime photos require some decent moonlight - NO FOG! (2 Cents)

This photo is just an example of how I picture that snowy, icy, FOGGY Idaho night to be. Was probably even darker than this example:

17:08 (talking about when they met with the FBI at the satellite office before BK was arrested and they laid out a profile)...it's going to look different than a crime where somebody sneaks in, gets out, doesn't leave a bunch of evidence, a bunch of blood trails out. Early on they said they think this individual picked this community, wouldn't be surprised if he was on Washington side hugging the border. (Talks about Lewis and Clark murders and FBI speculated the area could have been chosen because they don't have a history of IDing their serial killers).

I'm confused. Is he saying there is a bunch of evidence and there is a bunch of blood trails??
He was saying that when he met with the FBI after the murders but before the arrest, they gave him a profile of the killer and said that the scene was different than one they would normally find with domestic violence where the victims know their killer, and who typically leaves a bunch of evidence and blood trails out of the house. This was someone who snuck in and out and didn't leave much of a trace.

KG's family was adamant from the beginning that her boyfriend had nothing to do with this. Now we know that even before all the evidence was back, DM saw the person on his way out and she knew it wasn't JD.

Any chance clumsy BK is ambidextrous? A boxer, I'm betting he could land a hard blow with either hand. Knife in the right? Fist on the left? We might need to take another look at that selfie. Was that his knife hand, his fist hand, his little shovel hand? Any knuckle abrasions? Of course an elbow can be just as effective.

It cost her her life but KG's presence (which IMO created the chaos, resulting in the sheath being left behind) solved MM's murder.

BK's clever countermeasures, all for naught, because his DNA took a selfie and stuck it to the crime scene.
