Great analogy.

Yes, I think in the case of Ted Bundy, he was conventionally attractive and that played a key part in his ability to lure women into his car (IIRC, he had a fake cast on so they’d open his car door for him). At first glance he didn’t appear to be some kind of creep, whereas Bryan’s affect was off-putting.

I’m still unsure if BK’s intent was a one-and-done, and circumstances led to a collateral mass murder. I’m up for grabs if he would’ve eventually become a serial killer akin to Bundy.

I suppose if he’d gotten away with it he might’ve wanted to repeat the thrill. Unless this was a very specific stalking, most likely of Maddie.

Just guessing.

I think BK was trying to emulate TB, probably some sort of twisted psychopath "hero worship". It would be interesting to know if BK had done any papers or research for his degree on Ted Bundy.

MOO, is that BK is definitely an incel. And took his hatred and frustration out on Maddie and Kaylee. I think that at some random moment, they crossed paths with BK, and ignored him, which fed his "incel" rage to murder.

If they can make that connection, it would be amazing. I don’t think they will be able to though, and a possible reason for that is there is no connection.

It could have been as simple as he saw MM in her window while he was out lurking one night, and he fixated on her.

Kind of like Jake Patterson with Jayne Closs. He just happened to see her get off the bus one day, and days later her parents were dead and she was kidnapped.

MM’s bedroom window, with the pink boots and letter M on the windowsill, was clearly visible from that parking spot up the hill at the side of the house.
He probably waited up there, after circling the house multiple times, like a shark, until the lights were turned off. And then made his move.

He witnessed parties at the house from that spot during one or more of his earlier ‘night drives’. That upped his frustration even more, beautiful kids having a good time and he wasn’t invited.

the thing about Bundy was that he fit in..he was tan, attractive, wore clothes well. played tennis and had personal charm and some charisma. none of these attributes can be applied to BK. it's like Lurch wanting to play James Bond. mOO
To be fair, I wouldn't exactly call BK ugly or not possessing of those attributes. He's an average, dare I say a decent looking guy. He's also relatively fit and tall. I think his biggest problem was was that he was socially awkward and emotionally stunted, but frankly I don't buy that much the stories about him being a creep who everyone got from the get go. Seems like a bit of attention seeking to me.

I don't think he was trying to emulate Bundy. I think the Bundy search are harmless stuff he did given his field of study. He probably searched a lot of other serial killers, as well. I've done the same and I'm not really into criminology. That said, he was obviously fascinated with this stuff and probably wanted to do it himself, but on its own it's nothing really interesting. His sexual fantasies say a lot more about him than the Bundy search.

Granted, I don't buy the theory he wanted to rape Maddie because he obviously made a lot of effort not to leave any forensic evidence, but I do think he planned to kill her and as such maybe get sexual gratification from it.

I agree that killing was always the goal. That it was the crux of the fantasy.

The searches - “forced,” “passed out,” “drugged,” and “sleeping.” - remind me very strongly of the Madeline Soto case. The perpetrator in that case had a fetish for partners who were sleeping, drugged, or feigning death. It was the only way he could sustain an erection.

It wouldn't surprise me if BK similarly is incapable of intimate contact without at least the facsimile of necrophilia.

She's in a bit of a conundrum. She can claim the state and investigators violated the gag order and leaked this stuff to Dateline, but in doing so she admits that it's true.
AT can try, and probably will, but she didn't have a problem when all the Pro Bryan info. was being leaked to the media.

She better be reviewing discoverbry. 🤭

MOO
We've got quite the Bry-isms going...Brybrow (Megnut) Discoverbry (You) and my annoying I'm sure Bye bye, Bry, any others I've missed?

Some much needed levity in this very dark, awful case.

I have plans tomorrow night, and I’m not happy about it. I’m expecting a running recap to read when I get home.

How soon does NBC post it on youtube?

Not sure, but it will be available to stream on Peacock the day after airing (tomorrow). Peacock is a paid network, but I believe that they may offer a free trial period, which would allow you to watch it and then cancel, if you chose to. JMO

Old news that all great sleuths are already aware of:

@NBCDFW

Previously unseen footage obtained by “Dateline” shows a car resembling Bryan Kohberger's driving around the time four University of Idaho students were murdered https://on.nbcdfw.com/BbJX1Bp Tune in for a two-hour special at 8 p.m. CT Friday.

The previously unseen footage obtained by “Dateline” offers another angle into the turbulent events at the time prosecutors believe the students were murdered.

So odd that they were unable to find any sort of social media connection. If he was obsessed, you would think he would have been all over her accounts. I remember reading something about him having a digital trail with a friend of a victim. Maybe if you look but don’t “like” or “follow”, it can’t be traced?

To be fair, the pro Bryan info is slim pickings!

And once again, I just have to say that just because the public hasn't heard about some kind of evidence yet, it doesn't mean there is not more out there. People who think "We would have heard about it by now" will be surprised when the case gets to court. And even after, imho.
I think SG said there was lots more . . .

I’m not sure of all of BK’s attributes. I didn’t find the text to the female college student creepy, just incredibly socially awkward. IMO, BK appears not to realize he’s socially awkward while everyone around him does. I think that’s where the creep factor comes in.

  • #777
I still think BK was searching for a house filled with female students and came upon MM who made him aware of her house and roommates.
Once he chose the house he could plan the details of his perfect crime.
In that sense, I don’t think MM was the target. She was the unwitting compass that led him there.

There is a new judge? If so, did he reject that alibi?
Judge Hippler wrote this in his Order Memorializing Oral Rulings on Motions in Limine:

The State moves to preclude Defendant from offering any evidence in support of an alibi, other than from Defendant himself. The basis for the State's motion is Defendant's failure to comply with the notice requirements governing alibi evidence.

and

If any alibi fails to account for defendant's whereabouts for at least some period of time during which the crime was reasonably committed, it is not an alibi.

and

At this point, Defendant has only provided notice that he was out driving in the "early morning hours" of November 13, 2022 throughout the area south of Pullman, Washington and west of Moscow, Idaho. He intends to present testimony by his expert, Sy Ray, to "partially corroborate" his alibi using CSLI data from Defendant's cell phone. However, the alleged offense occurred between approximately 4:07 a.m. and 4:20 a.m. At most, Mr. Ray can opine as to where Defendant's cell phone was up until 2:54 a.m., when it was apparently turned off, and approximately 4:48 a.m., when it began reporting to network. Defendant has provided no evidence as to his location at the time of the crime. In other words, he has provided no alibi evidence as contemplated by the rules.

That said, the Court will not categorically preclude Defendant at this point from offering alibi evidence at trial...There are still four months until trial begins. If Defendant does unearth alibi evidence, it is his obligation to immediately make the State and the Court aware of it. At that point, the Court can apply the Juarez standard. Excluding it at this time is premature and, therefore, the motion is DENIED, subject to being re-raised if Defendant does disclose alibi evidence. However, at this point, Defendant has not provided an alibi, partial or otherwise.

So the judge agrees with the prosecution that BK has not provided an alibi according to Idaho statute, but he won't preclude him at this time from offering one in the future. Fair ruling IMO--it acknowledges that what the defense has provided is not an alibi, but this far out from the trial it's too soon to say he should not be allowed to present one if he has the evidence.

I don't think he knew her at all.

I think he was a peeping Tom driving around and parking late at night and found that her room was an easy target. His desires escalated, he zeroed in on her room and waited for the perfect time.

I doubt he even knew her name
