I doubt the police would take an official picture of it if it was not in the original position. I doubt they would move anything at that point. Some people theorize she put it there to wash her hands. Or maybe she got herself a glass of water.
Why do you assume that is an official picture, though? Or what does "official" mean to you? That looks like one of many that were taken though windows with zoom lenses.

ETA: There were many images of the barstools turned sideways and blocking the sliding door, and I have to assume if that was the way the killer came in and out, they weren't there to begin with, which is why I question so many of the images and if those were the original locations.

The front door is at the parking lot. I don't recall a clear path or stairs leading from the parking lot to the kitchen door.

I came across this earlier today. They were in their bedrooms at 4 a.m.

"All five tenants, plus Chapin, were home by 2 a.m. on the morning of the killings, and everyone was in their bedrooms by 4 a.m., according to statements to police by surviving roommates Funke and Mortensen. Police believe the Nov. 13 attack took place between 4 a.m. and 4:25 a.m."

There is not a clear path leading to the slider, from the parking area, but if a car parked along that side, as is thought that BK may have done, with the outside light strings on, that wrap around that corner of the house, the back slider area was at least partially lit. Also, with 5 college kids living in that house, I am pretty sure that there had probably been many DD deliveries made there, and the driver may have been very comfortable dropping off at the slider. Agreed completely. But we see the pattern of those who are delusional to think there is a chance and feel no shame - some even relishing the spotlight and their 15 minutes (Leticia, Bryan, Lori). IMO Chris Watts wasn't more rational nor prudent in pleading, he was the type whose whole existence revolved around avoiding negative attention during life. It actually would have been absolute torture for him to sit through a trial IMO. His whole persona was being the dependable, innocuous, good guy in life and never being seen as the source of conflict. I would wager being exposed and discussed for months on end was a worse fate than waterboarding. He picked up that Bible awfully quickly to attempt to claw back the good guy status in the eyes of at least a few and hold his head up again. I don't think it was the death penalty that actually made this one take a plea...but wanting his ugly monster tucked back under the rock.

And then there is the other one human thing the rest of us could relate to...that they face a lifetime of 24/7 same in, same out. Being in court is something different and prolongs the inevitable that nothing will ever change until you go out in a box. If you feel no shame, where is the downside? Suddenly, OJ Simpson verdicts seem attainable.

I think we need more of an incentive to get people to plea - especially since whether you are pro/anti death penalty, given the 20+ year timelines in many states, I am not sure it is enough of a deterrent in many cases IMO. Maybe somewhat better crappy prison conditions versus the worst - since we had to waste our tax dollars and surviving victims court torture on their amusement and rolling of fixed dice? Bigger windows in the cell? Better accommodations/activities? Food? I don't know, but I would not be for reduced time in heinous, violent crimes. Slippery slope when attempting to induce a guilty plea - too stark a difference in outcome could also incentivize the innocent. I wonder where Bryan the graduate student stood on this issue?

Wow, just noticed how long my posts are. Will work on that! Apologies!
Most court cases (maybe not mass murder, heavily covered) are plea bargained. If every case was tried, it would take even longer than now for the case to come to trial, which is saying something!

No, that tends to happen when the evidence is weak. When they have a strong case, they take it to trial.

As a thought, here is a screen shot from an NBC Video here

If a car parked at the left side facing the house, they can go down a very small hill and under the balcony to get to the slider. Looks pretty easy for DD or the killer..

Maybe he doubled up on shoe coverings so he wouldn't leave footprints as he left the scene. Maybe he sat down on the chair for a second to take them off. Maybe even grabbed a shirt or something nearby to wrap them and the knife in, shoving it all in a waiting bag once he got out.

I think xana almost knocked him out with a golf club. And he had to sit down because he had the wind knocked out of him. I think that's why he left so quick, because otherwise I think he would have tried to have gotten the other two girls.

I agree. Here’s the earliest article containing the Jack-in-the-Box picture linked above by SteveP that I could find:

Brutal killings of University of Idaho students were ‘personal,’ autopsies showed

The picture (which you’ll have to scroll quite far down in the article to find) is credited to James Keivom, who is “a photographer based in New York City,” according to his Instagram account.

On his personal website, he has an entire section of his photos related to this case:

https://jameskeivom.com/Idaho-Murders/thumbs

Included is his Jack-in-the-Box picture with the following caption:

A paper bag containing a food order from Jack in the Box pis visible in a kitchen as investigators gather evidence at an off-campus home where four University of Idaho students were stabbed to death on Thursday, November 17, 2022 in Moscow, Idaho. Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, Ethan Chapin, and Kaylee Goncalves were named as the victims earlier this week.(James Keivom for New York Post)
The caption’s wording is awkward, but I think it means he took the picture on Thursday, November 17.

My point is that most if not all of what Dateline released on Friday, May 9 could be unofficial leaks (if not lucky guesses), and, hopefully, not the basis of future appeals by BK’s defense.
If I’m not mistaken, the press is not bound by a court’s gag order, and I suppose a huge media corporation such as NBC knows how to use the Freedom of Information Act to do their investigations.

Just my guess.

That's a nice thought that maybe Xana spared the other girls even though she had to die.

Perhaps the thud was BK slamming his car trunk shut before he drove out of there like a bat out of Hell.
You could be correct. That thud is so loud that it's difficult to believe it was poor, lifeless Xana falling to the ground.

Is this a guess or is there info about a golf club?

Nothing other than the time of delivery, 3:59am has been confirmed, although I am sure that LE know to where, but there has been speculation, partially based on coordinates shown on the DD delivery ticket, that the DD delivery may have been made to the 2nd floor slider, which kinda makes sense, as that is the level that XK's room is on, and she could have gotten the delivery without having to go downstairs and back up, risking awaking BF. The DD driver knows where they left the food, so the police know exact DD movements.

I am pretty sure the DD driver is on the state's witness list. So at least we know that this nagging question will be answered.

What I really want to know from the driver is did they see or hear Xana at pick up? I'm thinking probably not, but?

And of course, did they see a white car driving nearby or see a figure in black as they were driving away.

I expect LE knows just about everything. As do Anne Taylor, Bill Thompson & Judge Hippler. BK, of course, is all-knowing, but he’s not telling anyone.

We here on Websleuths are the ones who only know for sure what Hippler allows AT and BT to reveal via court documents and during live and recorded hearings.

We also have access to those delicious morsels revealed by the media, and each of us gets to decide which morsels to consume, and which to cast out.

My point is, we are at a serious disadvantage here on Websleuths since we have access to so little evidence compared to the players involved—those who will decide BK’s fate.

The main thing we can do here is speculate, IMO, at least during active cases with gag orders.

But just like the defense and the prosecution, we can sift through the evidence we do have access to, give it structure, and let it tell us a story that makes sense.

That, IMO, is the interesting part of following a case. And for a case such as this one, we even get to find out by the end of the trial what we got right and what we got wrong.

This might seem like a pointless activity to people who don’t fancy true crime, but it makes me feel like I’m participating somehow in the pursuit of truth, the pursuit of justice—more now that I’ve finally joined the conversation, but even when I was lurking.

The lives of murdered victims matter. They should be acknowledged and honored, and Websleuths does this well.

All IMOO, of course.

Do we know for certain that there were golf clubs inside 1122 King Road? Did one (or more) of the girls golf?

Just curious as to where this info. might be coming from.

JMVHO.

Reportedly, Ethan was an avid golfer. And there is a picture floating around of his golf clubs seen through the window of a 1st floor storage room.

WHAT? Where did a golf club theory come from!

Added: @katydid23, do you have connection between Ethan’s clubs and theory of @concernedcitizen706 ?
