If a person is unfamiliar with the case, they move on to demographic questions (about social media habits) without asking those nine questions.

That seems important.

We'll see what the judge says.

Asking open-ended questions is challenging, versus using specific information to prompt recall and recognition, Edelman says. Prejudicial details come out in close-ended questions. If those questions are not included, bias can be undetected.

BE says he asks the fact specific questions because open ended questions require recall which is difficult whereas fact specific questions provide occasion for recognition which requires less effort. People don't remember facts but if you provide the fact, they recall it.

Um. Well, yes, I find it easier to answer a question when the question contains the answer...

Have we lost sight of the actual trial?

Edelman says survey for Kohberger case was valid. Case specific questions were appropriate. About 3% to 4% of survey takers didn't know about the case, he says. The survey was given to 400 Latah County residents.

Victims Family’s Stmt, After Judge Did Not Set Trial Date, said:

“We just want justice for our loved ones… efficiency in prosecution… a court that will make timely decisions… and we want a fair trial..."
“Why don’t we get on with the case instead of worrying about making mistakes.”

A S.H. Payer poem says: “When you are faced with a decision...” W more of the poem, the Goncalves & Kernodle stmt urged prosecutor & court to act quickly:
“… make a decision as wisely as possible– then forget it. The moment of absolute certainty never arrives.”

A trial ending in Not Guilty verdict would be a “moment of absolute certainty,” but doubtful imo they’re considering that, allowing no appeals by the state.

Sadly for victims’ families & others, even a Guilty verdict provides only a relatively brief period of absolute certainty. Statistically, it’s likely that filings challenging the conviction would ensue, quickly for initial appeal & possibly for years or decades for other post-conviction relief.

I hope the families get the justice they want.

According to his data, 82% of survey respondents who recognized seven or more media items reported that Kohberger was guilty. Only 29% who recognized two or fewer media items believes the defendant is guilty, Edelman says.

The knife sheath allegedly being found on the bed next to one of the victims was a significant finding in the survey, he says. Another prejudicial finding was a stalking accusation that was widely reported, Edelman says.

Edelman says coverage of last week's survey discussion created undo prejudice against the defendant. He is defending his work, saying he's an objective expert, and all of the questions were developed from information in the public record.

This is a national case, everyone has been saturated with coverage, but surveys should be conducted in other counties to find out what misinformation is out there, Edelman says. Bonneville or Ada counties may be options.

No, the clarity was he did not stalk a "witness". I'm not trying to be annoying I thought I heard victim and made sure I went back and heard witness.

Thompson says he's sorry Edelman's feelings were hurt. Edelman says he was angry about his reputation and work being questioned. Thompson says the question about Kohberger stalking a victim was false, and Edelman agrees.
