Carroll County Prosecutor Nicholas McLeland in his opening statement Friday alleged that Richard Allen forced Abigail “Abby” Williams and Liberty “Libby” German down a hill near the Monon High Bridge trail and killed them.

The girls were hiking along the trail on Feb. 13, 2017, “a nice summer day in the middle of winter,” McLeland told jurors. A little after 2 p.m., the girls reached the famous high bridge. Allen, McLeland alleges, was following them.

He “pulls out a gun and forces them down the hill,” McLeland said, adding that the video that Libby was taking on her phone shut off around this time.

what does the state have? Lets take stock shall we? They had enough evidence to get the search warrant for RA's home and vehicle from a judge and that was later upheld by a ruling from this court. They have enough to defeat not one, not two, not three, but four Franks Motions and an argument to present a SODDI defense that is NOT based in allowable evidence the defense could produce.

They have a bullet that their expert will testify was cycled through RA's weapon. They have 60 plus confessions from RA.

And that's just what we KNOW the State has. They haven't been out showing their cards or theories to the public by way of overly verbose motions that are heavy on speculation and light on facts.

As always - JMO
I'm not expecting any bombshells from the State really, are you?

He is such a tiny man. I thought that when I saw him a few months ago - it really surprised me.

But for someone in plain sight with all that was made available publicly, even a recorded voice, not one person looked his way. Not one!
We don't know that for sure.
LE/ Prosecutors have not shared (Gag order, Integrity of the case) all they know, all the tips called in.
He may have been tipped in multiple times.

We will find out soon !!!!

Great news from this reporter

Prosecution also stated Allen matches the description of a man seen on the Monon High Bridge minutes before the girls were abducted, that he confessed to details only the killer would know, and they talked about the bullet found at the crime scene. They said it matches Allen’s gun.

Cameras confiscated outside Delphi courthouse

Delphi:Listen to reporters' takeaways from Richard Allen's trial in the Delphi murders case

Cameras of journalists outside the courthouse were confiscated shortly after jurors arrived Friday morning.

When Gannett photographer Alex Martin saw two vans approach the shrouded fences on the west side of the courthouse, he put his camera on his hip and set the second camera on the ground. Special Judge Frances Gull made it clear during Thursday's media orientation that photographs or videos of the jurors was forbidden, and Martin obliged.

After the jurors were unloaded, law enforcement came out from the shrouded fence and confiscated cameras.

I doubt we ever get the whole truth in this case. I wonder if the only truth we'll ever get is that the kids were murdered and found on the back of a private property? moooo
Stay tuned. RA will speak and tell things only the killer would know. NMcL mentioned that in his opening statement.

This has been my theory for a very long time, that down the hill was to lead them to a waiting car on the road directly below the bridge.

I believe there is a strong possibility this is what happened. Very interesting to hear in opening statements.

I agree, those sketches were used for years to plead with the public to tip in anybody that resembled them, the younger sketch causes more problems for the state as I have always wondered if the first sketch was drawn post the release of bridge guy video
I think both sketches do resemble RA, although one appears younger. I think it also is important to remember it’s not a photograph but a description that is then drawn by another party, with their perception of the description. I’ll admit that I hope I never have to offer info for the sketch of a person of interest. I have a hard enough time occasionally trying to match sketches shown of the actual guilty party. I’ve never seen them used during trial though. It’s an investigative tool, much like a polygraph. I think the judge was correct in dismissing them.
