The court hears that in this case Sorell received Telstra call charge records for a number ending in “783”.

He says the records were for a four year period to August 2023.

He confirms he was contacted by VictoriaPolice in January 2024 who were seeking analysis of the mobile phone records.

He says the IMEI [International Mobile Equipment Identity, used to identify phone handsets] number changed a number of times during this four-year period.

Prosecutor Jane Warren says police asked Sorell to help identify connections that Erin Patterson’s phone made to the locations of Outtrim and Loch. He was also asked to identify movements of the device on 31 July 2023 - two days after the lunch - between 8am and 10am.

Sorell agrees he was asked for help with these points.

Sorrell says he was asked to identify “periods when the phone could have been in the Outtrim area which at that stage was a very broad definition”.

He says he was asked to determine if the phone was “passing through” the area or spending time in the region.

He notes the evidence has “quite significant limitations”. He says:

The best that can be said is that a phone is in a general area.

The prosecution previously told the jury that reported observations of death cap mushrooms in Outtrim and Loch had been posted on the iNaturalist website in early 2023.

Got caught in the door on the last thread closing, but wanted to say that I agree with this whole post by Detective:
Exactly!

On more thought, it seems to me that she hid the Death Cap "powder" in the duxelle and also used regular mushrooms for the duxelle to give the appearance of mushrooms because the Death Cap powder didn't resemble mushrooms. I don't believe she rehydrated The Death Caps and added them in as chopped mushrooms. I believe they were powdered immediately after drying and were put in a jar for the future meal.

So when the health department were analysing the food scraps, they would have seen white mushrooms from Woolworths, and been confused because there wasn't any visible death caps.

Maybe she didn't anticipate them finding Death Cap DNA in the meal...

In that short period, Erin Patterson’s phone appears to have made more numerous base station connections. Some of the locations include: Leongatha, Outtrim, Koonwarra, Kardella and Mirboo North.

As Dr Sorell said earlier, these phones are greedy and often go searching for the best possible base station with the strongest signal.

He drills down further to a window between 11.24am and 11.49am — where the phone remains almost constantly connected to the Outtrim base station, apart from when it hooked in to a station at Foster north for a few minutes.

"It indicates at that point the phone is more likely to be relatively stationary," he says.

SO he is saying it is not showing her there from 10 am to 11:15 or so AM on May 22

HOWEVER it is probable she was in Outrim from 11:24 to 11:49 AM that day.

So she took 24 minutes to grab up the Death Caps?

Yes, that's what I got from it too.

And it appears that her earlier phone pings, from 10 to 11:20ish are probably indicating that she was on the way to Outrim and was pinging off those towers some of the time, as cells bounce around in remote areas.

But there was a 24 minute timeframe where she was probably stationary in that Outrim area

No real reason for someone to stop there…for 24 minutes.
