'Crews worked all day Sunday and through the night into Monday in the search for a missing boy in the Crowsnest Pass.'

'The search for Macdougall carried on overnight with crews specially equipped to work in darkness, said RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff early Monday morning.'

There quite a few disorders that could result in a child being nonverbal. This would certainly create a more difficult situation if he’s unable to respond to searchers calling out for him. They would literally have to search every square foot of the ground. The weather there at night is not yet below freezing but it’s getting close. My thoughts are with Darius’s family who must be frantic with worry.

This is not looking good. He was reported missing at 11:30am yesterday and the search reportedly went throughout the night so this is more than 24 hours of searching so far without success.

This CBC report shows a photo of Livingstone Public Land Use Zone. One thing I know about PLUZ’s is hunting is allowed and hunting season has begun. Can’t think of another reason why they’d be walking there this time of year. :(

That link also confirms Darius is autistic, the reason he might not respond to others.

Police say the boy is autistic and that could prevent him from responding to others.”

A little more information is slowly coming forth:

Officials say Macdougall was camping in the area with his family.

He went for a walk with six of his siblings a short distance from their campsite but became separated from the group.

“Darius was not among the ones that returned,” said Sgt. Mark Amatto, detachment commander of Crowsnest Pass RCMP, in a Monday news conference. “They went back to the site, searched for a good time before calling 911 and search and rescue was deployed immediately.”

Amatto said RCMP are optimistic that they can find him, and weather is working in their favour.

“The search is a 24-hour search,” he said. “It scales down slightly at nighttime for the safety of all parties; the terrain is alpine, mountainous terrain. It is very technical … There are multiple creeks and rivers at play, including some beaver dams. Due to the complexity of that terrain, we need to make sure that we take our time and thoroughly go through.”…..

…..The search teams are being aided by drones with thermal imaging, dogs and helicopters.

“Right now, all resources are in play to bring this little guy home,” Amatto said.

Police had said previously he has a “medical issue,” which may prevent him from responding to others. On Monday, Amatto said Macdougall has autism but added that he is not non-verbal.….”

No news but the CTV video in the link below captures the rugged terrain of the search area.

No news is NOT good news in a search for a missing child, although it’s a commendable search effort happening.

They have confirmed that Macdougall and his family are from Lethbridge.

A total of 82 search and rescue members from Alberta and B.C. are on site near the Island Lake Campground. They are aided by the RCMP, helicopters, drones, canine teams, and specialized underwater and swift water crews….

….along with RCMP, RCMP drones and dogs, and ascent helicopters out of Fernie.

I also have an autistic 5yo who is verbal but probably wouldn't respond to a stranger calling his name and I'm not sure I can follow this thread. Praying for this little guy and his family, especially the siblings who were with him when he disappeared.

Did the siblings come back in a panic, or came back and didn't know he was gone?

Really nothing I’ve noticed has been said about the events leading up to Darius’s disappearance, nor have either of the parents spoken out, the empasis so far is mainly on the search led by the RCMP. This is the most recent update, quite a bit more detailed than before:

Slaney confirmed RCMP are conducting follow-up interviews with family members, including siblings who were with Darius at the time of his disappearance. “We have child forensic interviewers that know how to appropriately interview children,” she said. “You never know, the smallest tidbit of information from one of those family members might be able to assist us.”…..

……Slaney said RCMP family liaison officers and victim services are working with Darius’s family, who are from Lethbridge. “The family wants to help, so they have been given tasks where they can actually help at the scene, but within control so that they’re not interfering with professionals. They have asked us to speak on their behalf to request privacy at this time. Their main concern is concentrating on the search for their child.”

To directly answer your question, it appears it wasn’t noticed he was missing until he didn’t return with the others but nothing more than this has been released -
