Thank you Sarahlou for providing this archived article from The Globe and Mail. It was credited as written by two reporters. I understand TGaM is one of the largest Canadian newspapers. Its primary circulation is central and western Canada. Not the area from which the children lived.

The two claims reported that I found most concerning was the Saturday evening (following the disappearance) accusations from the mothers family towards suspected involvement of the step fathers family. This accusation allegedly stemmed from a discussion about meth use in the home.

The second alarming report concerns an unidentified neighbor. This neighbor reported to LE about a loud 5 speed vehicle they heard come and go from the children’s trailer property 6 time between midnight and 5AM on the Friday morning they were reported missing. This report was not made until May 8th. The neighbor claimed to be outside repairing a vehicle during this time frame. I am very skeptical of this report, but it is very alarming if true. If true I suspect meth may have been involved there as well.

The families discussion of meth is very concerning. Families have a way of knowing what the underlying issues are. My family has had members who have dealt with meth addiction. This is a very life altering addiction that is very difficult to overcome. I have watched it slowly destroy the mental and physical health of people. Put them in a mental, legal and financial condition that was overwhelming. If there is truth behind these allegations of Meth addiction I am very concerned about the abuse of these children. Reported to have been sent to school with inadequate warm clothing. Possibly somewhat malnourished. Signs of physical abuse. These are all red flags that can be explained by their caregivers being meth addicted. Hope LE can locate these children quickly and get the mother the help she needs.

One bit that stuck out for me was why DM mentions that two of his sweaters went missing along with the children!

Why is that relevant? What does he think happened? The RCMP would never have known that they were missing, unless he mentionned it.

The article was insightful, however it does sound like most if not all the intel may have been biased coming from MBM's family circle.

Other than the CPS maybe and school info which doesn't seem to be biased. MBM can say whatever she wants about DM and abuse and DM can say the same about her sadly.

Hard to find truth in all this sadly. I will wait patiently!

Many years ago I had an across the street neighbor who had insomnia. He worked in the family’s automotive parts store during the day & at night he worked on cars in their driveway. He was out there most nights (weather agreeing). He was the first thing that came to mind when Daniel’s neighbor was mentioned. Also, step-grandma talked about flies being a problems in May, do they disappear when the sun goes down? It would make sense that ppl would be doing things overnight if it meant not dealing with those big, nasty flies.

Just an idea…

Hopefully they gather enough evidence to be able to find them and bring them home.

That line in the article actually kind of ticked me off. He never actually said he outran a helicopter. What he said was, he was out searching ahead of them, as in, before they got there. It came up on this thread at the time and it was perfectly clear that's what he was attempting to convey, yet that article (as previously pointed out) tried quite hard to paint him as someone making grandiose claims.

Say what you want about his lifestyle, etc., but it would be nice if the media would at least be honest about what he actually said, and not just repeat some random, condescending accusation.

My first thought wasn't meth, it was maybe the guy works night shift and Thursday night was a night off, but he stays on the same schedule. Most folks who work overnights do that on their nights off.

I could be wrong but unless he had a closet full of expensive cashmere sweaters I don’t think B&E was his main concern. Anything belonging to him that goes missing including sweaters could be staged to maliciously implicate him, for example if the children were found dead wrapped in the sweaters.

I knew someone who would spend a lot of time trying to pick the winners in a football pool and when he placed his sports bet (all legal - with the provincial lottery corp.) he would say he was "investing." Probably some say the same when they buy lottery tickets!

These things are often not illegal but they are highly speculative and so not "investments" in the normal use of that word. Even if legal, they can be a real problem for anyone with addiction issues and a tenuous financial situation. The gambling addict is always just one big win away from making everything good again.

To be clear, I am NOT saying anyone in this case has addiction issues, was gambling, or anything like that. We don't know. I am simply adding to the possibilities regarding when one might say they are "investing."

I think it’s closer to the truth than what her supporters would admit.

I’m skeptical of the bio-grandmother’s version of events, comparing back then and now as if children growing older doesn’t change parenting dynamics and then more or less insinuating the relationship with DM was problematic. The biogram was in the children’s lives 2 or 3 years ago when things would be much easier, Jack would’ve only been only a toddler and Lilly 3 or 4 years old. And baby Meadow wasn’t even born yet.
