When someone usually a man ( and im totally being gender biased so deepest apologies in advance , I know abuse happens to men also ) exclaims they do everything in a relationship my radar usually goes up and that radar usually tells me there is some form of abuse present . And when that exclamation is aimed at a woman it usually means the man is mentally and emotionally abusive toward the woman and the woman is so caught up pleasing the man she doesn't have time for her children as she is busy serving his demands

And I'm certainly not MBM's biggest fan

If someone states I do most things in a relationship that is a different statement .imo
This, a million times this! I'm very biased, because you just described my ex-husband to a T and I lived exactly this (minus the children, it was family, friends and work that he kept me from), but him saying that definitely raised a bunch of red flags for me as well. MBM leaving abruptly and cutting off all contact solidified it in my mind. In her shoes, if everything came to light and my mom gave me an out, I would take it too.

I’d think most rural folk can distinguish the difference in sound between a vehicle and an ATV. Have you ever heard the sound of an ATV when it’s running? IMO it would never be mistaken for a vehicle regardless of how many speeds of the transmission. The sound of a five-speed car ‘booting it’ is very distinct.

Can confirm, they don't at all sound the same.

Vehicle traffic in and out of the property multiple times from 12 midnight to 5 am the night/morning Lilly and Jack went missing. The step-grandma says she heard the dog barking and kids playing at 8:48am yet not a word about the noise comotion a 5-speed vehicle coming and going in the wee hours would create. Hummmm.

If the neighbour is truthful then the step-grandma must be lying OR the step-grandma is truthful and the neighbour is lying.

We have no way of knowing but this could be one of the reasons the RCMP refers to the case as complex.

Snipped

When I hear a situation is "complex," that means to me that more than one thing is going on at the same time, or more than one thing is happening in a tangled string of events, not just a one-time thing.

Many years ago I had an across the street neighbor who had insomnia. He worked in the family’s automotive parts store during the day & at night he worked on cars in their driveway. He was out there most nights (weather agreeing). He was the first thing that came to mind when Daniel’s neighbor was mentioned. Also, step-grandma talked about flies being a problems in May, do they disappear when the sun goes down? It would make sense that ppl would be doing things overnight if it meant not dealing with those big, nasty flies.

Just an idea…

ah yes hadn't thought of the bugs! they could be really bad out there, especially with all the forestry

I could be wrong but unless he had a closet full of expensive cashmere sweaters I don’t think B&E was his main concern. Anything belonging to him that goes missing including sweaters could be staged to maliciously implicate him, for example if the children were found dead wrapped in the sweaters.

or if they surreptitiously needed a stray hair for say, DNA
I'm NOT insinuating that they did it but he could think so

It would be extremely enlightening if the G&M revealed who are the sources of what is presented as factual information otherwise it’s similar to the DailyMail whose source is often Social Media.

It acknowledged Malehya never agreed to be interviewed therefore this can’t not be mistaken for investigative news reporting as G&M has no ability to confirm most of what’s written and it could be no better than second or third hand biased gossip. However it seems to represent a general summary of what is ‘out there’, but important to note nothing has been confirmed by police therefore I’m keeping an open mind.

yeah I was disappointed with this article - it's not the quality I expect from them

I agree, this is written in a flowing narrative style, very different from G&M’s prior focus on business, perhaps intended to increase their readership? If they’ve put themselves in competition with the tabloids the future of Canadian media is very alarming.

Or they coud both thell the truth - it's not far-fetched to think she is like me and my family and does not wake up to noises like cars or thunder in the middle of the night?
Or they could both be lying - honestly, this late in the investigation, I don't believe any new witness statements. People are seeing and talking in narratives.

Except this neighbours report was a few days after the disappearance and we are only hearing about it now. RCMP have confirmed it and likely wanted it leaked now

As a mother of a 1yo something I would normally awake for noises. But if it is right, that the mother didn't care, and all tasking was left to DM, then maybe I slept away and didn't notice anything (because I was used to no care at all). MOO

Thank you your honesty and I've had this experience too but became mentally exhausted trying to juggle everything. A clean home , personal hygiene, meals and whatever the demand of the day was . It was horrendous and I eventually ended up so exhausted i had selective mutism and then stopped talking altogether . Because answering back just caused more trauma .

I always say I am who I am today 25 years later because of two very strong women who helped me escape

Or April 30th the prior year? Which is why they weren’t receiving the payment?

I don’t know how Canada works
If taxes aren't filed by Aptil 30th it typically means you will not get the child tax credit the following year until they are filed however. The child tax credit doesn't stop until July 20th. So she would still be receiving it from the precious year until July 20th. Information is incorrect in the article. Also Daniel filing his taxes has nothing to do with mom's.

The OP was actually talking about the grandmother: the mother of DM, living on the same property. I think they were hinting at the fact that if she claimed she heard the kids play otside her window in the morning then how come she did not hear the cars in the middle of the night. I, however, think this is the least of the puzzles here: she had already been up to feed the chicken and dozed of again in the late morning, it was kids light next to her bedroom and her dog reacting to them. That is totally different setup than car noises during the prime sleep time in the middle of the night.

I am not saying anyone is guilty or innocent, lying or telling the truth. There are many puzzling things in this case, I just feel like reports of an awake neighbour outside during the night claiming to hear cars while an older lady asleep in her trailer not caliming to hear cars (afawk) is not in the top 20 of odd things, IMHO.

Or the RCMP never mentioned it in the beginning because they recognized it as nothing. If that information was released, and it had already been thoroughly vetted then that would start another avalanche of rumours. Which only takes time away from other tasks to look at.

I read about that noisy driveway talk in another post somewhere here. It wasn't new news.

If foul play happened, the noisy driveway talk may have had some credence, what vehicles came & left could be important.
Let's say the kids both died accidentally-- there'd be a lot of activity due to panic and a possible need to hide them ?

If no foul play, it was just friends coming and going, some house do have visitors throughout the night., depending on the circumstances.

Hoping for a break in this case soon !
Lilly and Jack need to be found and justice for them if need be.
Imo.

I can't imagine why a neighbor would lie about something like that...and weren't there others with him, IIRC?

And who would do the staging, LE? I don't think that's a possibility, JMO. This article really was an eye opener for me, lots going on in the two families involved. Lots more than we knew about, things the neighbors heard going on, things the school knew. I think LE knows what path to take. They need to find where these two sweet angels wound up. It breaks the heart 💔

JMO but it’s possible that the journalist’s source for this article is merely repeating what they were told (by either D or M) regarding their recent financial woes. Meth was mentioned, and it wouldn’t be out of character for someone actively using to claim that they need funds for day-to-day living but - through no fault of their own - they can’t swing it, and then request a loan from friend/family. Blaming it on taxes would fit in nicely in that respect. JMO

How do you know this neighbor didn't tell LE this info right away when a canvas was done?

FWIW- if the hamlet is remote and the roads there are infrequently travelled, it would be quiet enough that vehicle noise would stand out. Especially a noisy 5-speed after midnight going back and forth.

It’s not just the noise, but the lights, especially if they had their brights on because of the dark roads. If the vehicle was going back and forth down the dirt driveway to the mobile home, I don’t see how everyone wouldn’t have noticed it.

If the neighbour last heard the vehicle at around 5 am, that might explain part of the timeline, imo. The step-grandmother described herself as a hermit, so I don’t think the vehicle occupant was there to visit her. That leaves Daniel and/or Malehya. If they were up until 5am, maybe they stayed awake until 6-ish, marked the children as being absent, then went to bed until 9:40-ish.

I think the Globe & Mail is an excellent paper with a great reputation. The last article may have sordid details, but that’s a reflection of the case in general, imo.
