CANADA Canada - Jack, 4 & Lily Sullivan, 6, Vulnerable, wandered from home 10am, Gairloch Rd, Landsdowne Station, Pictou County, NS, 2 May 2025

My take would be the father was working no more than one day a week to draw unemployment insurance. They would also to be eligible to use food banks. There could also be other sources of income.. under the table.

There would be a breakfast program at school.
Catching up here ...

Please provide links to support the employment and/or financial situations, or any allegations of under the table income?

Thank you.

“We want to bring these two children home to their parents,” Weiss said, as he and Cpl. Carlie McCann, public information officer for Nova Scotia RCMP, met with reporters on Tuesday (May 6) in Lansdowne.'
“We have people who have been here since day one, the first time the call came in. They’re tired, but they remain optimistic.
“This is all search and rescue does, they try to bring people home safely,” he said. “They’re trying to stay on focus, on mission, and they’re sacrificing their personal lives – a lot of time to be here – to try and help this family out and bring these children home.'

As the search continues for two missing children in Nova Scotia — Lily Sullivan, 6, and Jack Sullivan, 4 — the warden of the Municipality of Pictou County says it was a stressful weekend for people in his community. Robert Parker spoke to the CBC's Tom Murphy.

ADMIN NOTE:

Please be careful forming opinions about past vs present tense. Fine to point it out, but amateur statement analysis is off limits at Websleuths because it is not all black and white ... tons of grey areas that Joe Public is not aware of.

There is a lot of psychology involved in such analysis, and it is only allowed at Websleuths when it is attributed to a qualified forensic specialist involved in the case or certified with expertise in the field of statement analysis.

Yes, in fact there's one particular "logging road" that is adjacent to their property, and judging by google maps, would have been accessible to the children without using the main road. Here's a Google Street View of this road: Street View · Google Maps

This road looks to be about 1.5-2 km long, but it goes nowhere. There appear to be numerous clearcuts. But otherwise, a very thick forest that would make for extremely difficult travelling for little ones. It would be relatively easy to search the entirety of the trail, especially with a four-wheeler.
Thanks for sharing
Omg this scene has given me the heebie jeebies.

What happens after Wednesday morning if the children are not found?

"RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Carlie McCann said crews were expected to continue searching late Tuesday and into Wednesday morning“ with the tools and resources that are identified as being necessary.”

I found another case in Nova Scotia where search and rescue searched for 8 days until they found the missing boy. So probably 8 days at least.

Andy Warburton search

[edit]
On July 1, 1986, a nine-year-old boy wandered into the woods near the Beaverbank area and become lost. A frantic search was launched, which grew to become the largest ground search in Canadian history, involving over 5,000 volunteers.

However, on this case they only searched for 5 days.

Search for mountain biker called off, becomes missing-person case

After five days of searching the heavily-wooded area around Spider Lake in Waverley, RCMP have called off the search for a missing 30-year-old biker without finding any hints as to what could have happened to him.

Someone way back upthread mentioned mines. Googling Pictou County, Nova Scotia - mining was a huge deal back in the day. Would there possibly be air shafts or openings the littles could have fallen in? Not a miner - so asking out of curiousity. I haven't seen how big the property is, so not sure if someone has covered it all and therefore may or may not be aware of something like that?

As many as 140 crew members have been involved in the search each day for six-year-old Lily Sullivan and four-year-old Jack Sullivan, who police believe wandered from their home on Gairloch Road in Lansdowne Station last Friday morning.

Police dogs have been assisting in the search, and it's also the first time the Nova Scotia Guard — a provincially organized volunteer group — has been deployed. The public has been asked to stay away as crews conduct their work.

The RCMP would not confirm Tuesday if its major crime unit is involved in the investigation.

“I can’t comment on what any of the specific teams are beyond what’s involved in the search on the ground here,” said Cpl. Carlie McCann.

Police say they are still treating it as a missing person case.
Still no sign of missing children in rural N.S. as search enters sixth day

I didn't read she was feeding him, her 1st interview said she fell alseep and they both woke up to not hearing the kids
I did read the BF say Lily came in and out and he told her to be quiet so the baby would sleep. IMO

Their stepfather Daniel Martell believes the youngsters went out a sliding back door of the family's home while he and the children's mother Malehya Brooks-Murray fed their baby.

I don't know if it will be today, but at some point fairly soon it'll be a recovery effort. Given the length of time they've been gone, lack of adequate food/water and proper shelter, those wee babies won't last long in the elements.

Black bears can and will kill and eat people. They’re not normally aggressive, but small defenseless children? Maybe.
Black bears (the kind found in Nova Scotia and other parts of Canada) are not as harmless as people may think. Here is a picture of a warning sign I came across:

Unless they are submerged under water, I find it highly unlikely that they are ‘lost’ the woods, after 4 days of intense searching.

Somebody said that tracking dogs were brought in. I find it hard to believe that the dogs wouldn't have at the least found some indication of where the children went.
