CANADA Canada - Jack, 4 & Lily Sullivan, 6, Vulnerable, wandered from home 10am, Gairloch Rd, Landsdowne Station, Pictou County, NS, 2 May 2025

This from Canadian TV

"Their stepdad told us they'd both been out sick all week before disappearing on Friday."

This is from CBC news.

So the BF of mom is claiming the kids didn't go to school... Monday to Thursday- at least that's what "all week" to me means.
BUMP

Their stepfather Daniel Martell believes the youngsters went out a sliding back door of the family's home while he and the children's mother Malehya Brooks-Murray fed their baby.
Abduction fears as siblings aged four and six vanish from beauty spot
That's a DailyMail story, which is notorious for getting the facts wrong with Canadian stories. No Canadian news outlets has quoted the parents saying that they were feeding the 16 month old child.

According to the father, they were in bed with the child when their daughter came into the room. They told the daughter to leave them alone and they dozed off.

Maybe those Dailymail story-writers feed their 16 month old children in bed, but that's not how we do it in Canada.

Black bears (the kind found in Nova Scotia and other parts of Canada) are not as harmless as people may think. Here is a picture of a warning sign I came across:

Yes black bears are not harmless but bear attacks leave evidence of an attack involving the victim’s blood plus they don’t eat rubber boots, backpacks, nor clothing.

If these children had been eaten by bears the searchers would’ve found evidence of that. And no point in the last six days has it been mentioned the 100 to 150 searchers have been called back due to the presence of black bears.

The weather has been up and down for the entire time they have been missing.
Day one was 2 c, for those of you from USA 35.6 over night. Most nights are around the same.
A 4 year old out in this weather wearing only a dipper, could they survive?
I’m so heartbroken.

I’m heartbroken as well. If they’re out there, children that age surviving six days without food and perhaps water would be extraordinary IMO. Note - it’s not that the 4 year old wasn’t wearing any clothing but it appears the exact description isn’t known but it’s really not that important anyway. Earlier iirc it was stated he was wearing brown pants and shirt but maybe that was found in the laundry and step-dad shouldn’t be asked to conduct an inventory of clothing.

Apologies if this has been posted. I'm just catching up on this case now.

Police told CBC News that searchers located what could have been a footprint on Saturday, leading them to expand their search efforts in that area.

"Since Lily and Jack Sullivan were reported missing on Friday, ground search and rescue volunteers and officers have meticulously searched the kilometres in the area around Lansdowne Station where Lily and Jack last seen," RCMP told Newsweek.

Thanks, that's the first I've read that one.
It is the only outlet who has reported it that way. So while it is considered MSM and an approved link, folks will give it the weight they feel it deserves. as Otto has said, no other media has reported it that way. I've checked and they are correct about that. Shrug.

<modsnip: Quoted post was removed> ... I did note that the step father has a scratch on his face, and that when he stopped to cry during the news interview, he was not actually shedding tears.

Of course, everyone grieves differently and a scratch might not mean anything. I'm just noting it.

When asked on Tuesday if the major crimes unit is involved, an RCMP spokesperson said a "variety of teams" are working on the missing persons investigation "in order to provide tools, skills and resources as necessary."

Martell said that after the disappearance, the children's mother left the area to be with her family in another part of the province and has blocked him on social media.

He said there was an argument between the two families out in the yard of the home that day.

"My mother had to kick … some people off the property 'cause they were saying that I did it, I had something to do with it, and I'm the only one here fighting for them, which is sad," he said.

can anyone direct me to the picture of him with a scratch on his face? TIA

Do we know when the last time that anyone who was not the parents saw the children?

edit: Sounds like last Thursday, at this point.
The children attend pre-primary and primary at Salt Springs Elementary, but Martell said they were not at school on Friday, May 2, because Lily had a cough, and they were also home sick from school the day before.

What we know about the search for missing N.S. children
according to the stepdad the children were off school that past week due to illness. (see CBC video I linked upthread)

The school is not in session on Wednesdays per their website and it has been reported in various ways

as the children being "out ill that week"
to off Tuesday due to illness and again Thursday and Friday due to Lily having a cough
to off Thursday because both kids were sick and still off Friday because Lily cough.

“My story has been consistent. When you tell the truth it’s always consistent,” said Mr. Martell.

He said police asked him to walk them through step-by-step details of exactly what happened on May 2, the day the children were reported missing, and the previous few days. They asked him to draw maps and locations where the children could possibly be, he added.

Neither child had attended school that week since Tuesday, Mr. Martell told The Globe. He said they were kept home Thursday and Friday (Wednesday there was no school) because Lily had a cough.

Daniel Martell says police asked him to draw maps and locations where the children could possibly be.
Ms. Brooks-Murray has been staying with her mother in a nearby town since the children went missing, and Mr. Martell said he and his wife have had only sporadic contact since then.
