CANADA Canada - Jack, 4 & Lily Sullivan, 6, Vulnerable, wandered from home 10am, Gairloch Rd, Landsdowne Station, Pictou County, NS, 2 May 2025

It is called Child Welfare in Canada. Most likely if the children are not found shortly, I would assume the police will be checking with the school and child welfare pretty quick. If they have not done so already,it being the third day.

That kind of investigation is usually started right away, concurrently with the search. There has been nothing reported that would indicate any worrisome issues.

Per this link, "Daniel Martell has been in a relationship with the children's mother for three years. He said the last time he saw the children he and their mother were in their bedroom with their baby on Friday morning."

I like that story less and less. I mean, who drifts back to sleep at 10 am while having not only two kindergarten age kids but also a baby?

A very tired mother who was kept awake most of the night by the baby? BUT in that case, OH should definitely have got up a lot earlier to look after the 2 older children, so based on the info we have so far, it's not a viable excuse IMHO. JMO

The kids were last seen about 10am right? Why wasn't an adult up and out of bed by then?

"He said the last time he saw the children he and their mother were in their bedroom with their baby on Friday morning.

He said Lily came into the bedroom several times and he could hear Jack in the kitchen."

So was the 4 year old in the kitchen making breakfast ... seriously who made breakfast for the kids? Who called the school that morning to report they wouldn't be in class that day? I fear for these children ...

''It's exhausting," he said. "There's ticks, there's the blackflies are coming out. The temperature in the morning begins cool and then a wall of humidity just moved in [Saturday]. That takes a toll on people.

"So there's heat exhaustion people are getting treated for, there's tick bites, there's bug bites, there's scratches and pokes from branches and twisted ankles, so on top of managing the search, you have to manage the searchers as well."

Boots like the ones worn by Lily (left) and Jack (right) Sullivan when they went missing in Pictou County on Friday are pictured.

''The children’s mother Malehya Brooks-Murray has pleaded for their safe return.

“I’m just staying as hopeful as possible. I want them home. I want to hold them, and I want them home,” she told CTV News Saturday. “When they’re found it will be the biggest relief to hug them.”

Multiple agencies are taking part in the search, including ground search and rescue teams, the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association, the Department of Natural Resources Air Services, and several RCMP units.

“These two young people mean a lot to this community. All of our young people mean a lot to this community. They say it takes a village to raise a child, well all of Pictou County is a village right now and if more could be done I know it would be done and we’re just thankful there’s so many people out there looking,” says Parker.''

Should Lily have been in school, being 6? Maybe we are making assumptions there. Jack, being 4, doesn't need to be in school.

I see nothing wrong with parents of three very young children resting late in bed. And maybe someone was even home sick.

Some kids can make themselves cereal or similar from a very young age. They will make it clear if they need help.

These parents just need support and care. They deserve some rest and didn't expect their children to elope from the house.

A 6 year old would either be in Kindergarten or Grade 1. The 4 year old, maybe junior kindergarten.

I wish I knew more about Canadian social services (perhaps this is the case where I learn); if this case were American I’d be asking if this family had past case history with DYFS, or its various permutations on a state-by-state basis.
It's called Children's Aid Society or better known as CAS, and the laws here are locked down tighter than a drum, to ever find out if CAS has been involved with this family. I haven't seen anything yet to suggest they should/could have been.

I don't like this story at all. I could see one parent (tired mom) drifting back to sleep, but if the other parent heard children playing, they'd probably check, right? Or get them some breakfast. I also want to know about the sliding door the parents say the children opened but it didn't make a sound. Has there been any info out about how far the dogs were able to track their scent? MOO but the parents aren't giving out much solid info on what they were wearing. I hope my suspicions are incorrect and they're found safe.
