Also, the four year old could probably change his own pull ups. Or with help from his older sister. It would be helpful if we knew their regular morning routine. Seems like it is not unusual for these kids to get up in the morning, make their own breakfast, and then go into the fenced in backyard to play by themselves.
I suspect you don't have much experience of 4 year olds with additional needs. I do, and can say with confidence that yes they could take off a soiled pull up, but cleaning themselves up and putting it back on the right way is something my 4 yo wouldn't be able to accomplish.

Is it normal for a four-year-old to be wearing a diaper of any kind, unless they had medical issues?

If not, has there been any explanation of why Jack was wearing one?
My four year old was wearing a pull up at night until about a month ago. He wasn’t able to sleep thru the night without an accident.

In response to all comments about the 16 month old toddler eating in bed with parents: the only source for that remark is the Dailymail. The Dailymail has not checked facts. It appears that the UK tabloid imagines that Canadian toddlers eat in bed.

According to the father: the child was dozing in bed.

"Their stepfather Daniel Martell told The Globe that the children were playing in the next room while he dozed in the bedroom with their mother, Malehya Brooks-Murray, and the couple’s 16-month-old when the children went missing."

It is concerning that neither adult changed him in the morning if he did wear an overnight pull up.
Just my two cents again as the mother of a 4 year old boy who JUST stopped wearing pull ups at night. 90% of the time he’d wake up and dry and go to the bathroom himself when he woke up. The pull up was just for the other 10% of the time. So it’s very possible he didn’t need a change.

“The sun was already up and Lily came into the (bedroom)"

Sunrise that day was 7:00 am. Is Martell inferring that it was approximately 7:00 am that morning when he last saw Lily?
Sunrise that day was just before 6 a.m. someone posted the exact time in an earlier post with a link.
In most of Canada at this time of year, sunrise is around 6 ish.

Thank you for clarifying. That is also the only source - that I have come across - that states the step-father had slept during the window the children allegedly went missing. I'm not stating it is untrue, just that I have not seen that mentioned anywhere else.

Some of the info coming from the step-father seems to change quite a bit daily. IMO
It is simply my impression and observations as I have been following Lily and Jack’s disappearance from the beginning. And, have read all the links.

Statement from Mom:
CTV News Video

They know that the children were playing outside, but they weren't aware of it, and then they realized that the children were quiet, so they went outside to look for them.

"What happened was that we woke up I heard them playing in the next room beside us and I was drifting in and out of sleep, and they're not the type of kids that we tell them not to go outside on their own. We always make sure that we're out there with them, watching them, then they happened to just get out that sliding door and we can't hear it when it opens and they were outside playing, but we weren't aware of it at the time and the next thing we knew the [lurt-unknown] like it was quiet and we get up and I tell him, my partner, Daniel, I tell him "do you hear the kids" and he says "no" and we get up instantly, we're looking outside, we're looking everywhere, yelling for them and I instantly just called 911, as j-unknown I had the instinct I need to call."

They do have a chicken coop in their backyard. Aren't chickens usually let out to run around the yard and forage during the day? The kids maybe have a routine of feeding the chickens and opening their door in the morning? Also, those chickens will draw in predators if there are any around.

random musings.. speculation, imo.
There are better pics somewhere of the dwellings on the property, but just looking at this one wondering if kids could crawl in under the house/trailers?
Did Lily put on her backpack thinking she ought to be at school and started heading that way?
A touchy subject, but what birds might appear in the area if they pick up the scent of death outside?

I've not seen a single detail changing from the first time he spoke to the media.
Can you please link to the sources you're referring to where you've seen him change his statements?
It was my impressions and opinion from reading all the links previously posted since the beginning of this thread.

Furthermore, if one of the chickens escaped over the fence, the kids might have chased after it thinking they were going to be in trouble.

Are any chickens missing?

Daniel's story has definitely evolved. His first statements indicated upon finding out the children were no longer there he immediately jumped into his truck and drove off to check the backroads and culverts. In later interviews he says he ran outside, checked the backyard, they checked the residence, and then he took off to survey the roads and culverts. At some point he describes running through the brush ahead of the helicopters and drones and wading through high water etc. He doesn't clarify the when of that activity.

So perhaps all of these things are true and he is just elaborating with further detail as the days progress. Some describe it as his story changing, but I suppose it could be explained as him providing more detail as his press interactions continued.

MOO This doesn't jibe with the BF's timeline. I'm not saying either or both are lying, and they might both remember things differently and perhaps neither are using very precise language. But how did the mom know they got out the sliding door "and they were outside playing, but we weren't aware of it at the time" if, according to the BF, the sliding door was closed when they got up?
In the BF's account, “The sun was already up and Lily came into the (bedroom). She had a pink shirt on. We could hear Jackie in the kitchen. A few minutes later we didn’t hear them so I went out to check. The sliding door was closed. Their boots were gone.”

This is the impression he's left me with. Every statement I've watched or read him say is the same thing, with just added detail. Nothing's changed, no contradictions at all.

A few members were wondering about school bus options for Lily and Jack. Their school district appears to be CCRCE (Chignecto - Celtic "Family") and requires children PP (pre-primary) to Grade 2 to be escorted to/from the school bus by a parent or designated individual.

MOO, (no knowledge -- just hazarding a guess), the family, most likely, opted into the school bus service (to Salt Springs Elementary), their stop was probably at the bottom of the driveway, and AM pick-up was around 8 o’clock. The area is sparsely populated, so probably very few students on the route.

Was Lily in and out of the bedroom, earlier in the morning, (per stepdad) questioning when they were to be walked to the bus? Probably mom/stepdad told the children “no school today”, then fell back to sleep until 9:40am, satisfied that Lily and Jack would amuse themselves inside the home.

I can totally envision my six-year-old self, hankering to get back to school playmates after sick/pd days, grabbing my little brother/backpack and defiantly trekking to the bus stop, sans parent(s).

If this is a possible scenario… did the children misjudge the time and fail to meet the bus? Perhaps the bus arrived, the driver (following stringent protocols) turned the children away because they were unaccompanied, then watched them walk back to the home (back sliding door was locked, they played outside, then became lost behind the home)? LE did not release last-sighting specifics, so it could explain why an abduction/Amber Alert was not at the forefront of the investigation -- e.g. an independent citizen witnessed the children returning to the house. Absolute (rambling) speculation on my part.

CCRCE uses BusPlanner to manage transportation logistics. Question for anyone who has used this system: If you are keeping your children home from school, do you sign into the BusPlanner portal and cancel a pick-up beforehand, or does the bus simply run the same predesignated route regardless?

I'm just confirming that you are suggesting 7 days ago, a 4-year-old in pull-ups and rainboots and a 6-year-old in rainboots chased a loose chicken over the fence and despite 100s of LE and volunteer SAR searching grid-by-grid over a 4 square kms for a week, there's not a single shred of evidence? Police dogs are different than other trained scent dogs. I find it nearly impossible to believe that these children walked off the property.
