My heart is so heavy for Lily and Jack.

Unless there is diapering related to ASD, I would assume that would be permitted there as it would in the US under an education plan?

Even if Jack wasn’t autistic (no concrete evidence that he is, either), I would think he’d be allowed to attend day care/pre-k wearing a pull up. If he’s wearing the pull up only at night and not during the day, he’s IMO potty trained enough to attend a child care center.

Before my mom decided to homeschool my brother, we looked into the requirements for him to attend kindergarten and because he was only diapered at night (Pull Ups), he still met the criteria to attend since he was able to use the toilet by himself during the day.

according to the stepdad the children were off school that past week due to illness. (see CBC video I linked upthread)

The school is not in session on Wednesdays per their website and it has been reported in various ways

as the children being "out ill that week"
to off Tuesday due to illness and again Thursday and Friday due to Lily having a cough
to off Thursday because both kids were sick and still off Friday because Lily cough.

Okay, so at this point we're assuming the children have not been seen by anyone except their parents for approximately 8 days minimum?

the likelihood that the children are alive right now is very low.
Yes, as sad as it is. They disappeared on Friday and it's now day six. These are very young children so they wouldn't have learned any survival skills, and the weather is typical for spring - cool and chilly, especially at night.

This is really district dependent. I work in the field. I was just saying that either way him being in a pull-up wouldn’t impact if he was at school because even if the school didn’t allow it, they would likely allow it if it was an educational plan.

It appears that way, yes.

they MAY bring in cadaver dogs. I hope they do. I remember the case where a professor, suspect in a murder case, hid himself under a pallet or something like that in the wilderness and shot himself. Searchers walked right by him. It was a cadaver dog who found him.

this conference is sounding to me they know these children have come to harm.

Just collecting further evidence to be able to make an arrest IMO

Just throwing this out there...

Children with certain mental or behavioural disorders are at increased risk of abuse or neglect, a new study suggests.

The findings add to evidence that children with disabilities face higher abuse risks. But they also suggest those risks vary depending on the type of disorder a child has.

"We've known for years that children with disabilities have an increased risk of abuse," said Dr. Vincent Palusci, a pediatrician at NYU Langone Medical Center, in New York City.

But the new study "took a deeper dive," he said.

Overall, the researchers found that children with autism, Down syndrome or certain birth defects, such as spina bifida, were not at heightened risk of abuse.

But, children with intellectual disabilities were. The same was true of kids who fell into the broad category of "mental or behavioural disorder" — which included problems ranging from depression and anxiety to developmental delays to personality disorders.

I don’t know why they wouldn’t and I was a little bit surprised that they hadn’t yet

At this point in day six…I really just don’t know what to say. However, I feel so bad for those two children. So unfair…

No one asked about their thoughts on a possible abduction.
Unlikely, but you never know.

I’m not assuming anything since I can accept we don’t have factual information to support any assumption that could be considered anything close to accurate. JMO

All along LE have stated they weren't considering that a reasonable scenario. Likely why none of the reporters asked about it.

So it sounds like last attended school Tuesday 29 April, people aside from mom and stepdad may have seen them after that but we haven't been told that info. I would presume if Daniel's mother and perhaps his brother (reports are unclear on the brother) live on the property they would have seen the children at least in passing between Wednesday and Friday but they haven't spoken to press.

That possibly was covered in the vague response to a possible ‘criminal element’, not that I would’ve expected anything different at this point in time.

Sounds like last Wednesday, at the latest, that they were last seen by one else - that we know of, at this point. They were off school Thursday and Friday. So, going on seven days.

The children's stepfather, Daniel Martell, told CBC News that Lily and Jack were last seen on the morning of May 2.

The children attend pre-primary and primary at Salt Springs Elementary, but Martell said they were not at school on Friday, May 2, because Lily had a cough, and they were also home sick from school the day before.
What we know about the search for missing N.S. children
