If you go back through some US history, there is discrimination, and then are "protected classes," and then there are quotas and then there are reverse discrimination law suits which are not initially successful. There are law suits about who qualifies to be in what class and who does not and it gets technical and almost discriminatory itself. It is not so much a progression as a timeline with backlash and you are seeing a tidal wave of that now. (Puerto Rico: "weren't we going to be the 51st State? On second thought, never mind....")The US is not the only country with a sordid history. We have one, too. (eg: Link and Link ) But we are owning it, and trying to rectify it.
And I think the reason that not everything that a museum owns is on display is because they have too much stuff. They have to rotate it. Put some out in exhibitions, then take that down and put other stuff out. It also keeps people interested in visiting the museum on multiple occasions to view the things that were previously stored.
The US seems to not only be involved in newly formed trade wars, but is now also at war with its own history. Which is not particularly enlightening for the youngsters who are growing up with no knowledge of the mistakes of the past, so those mistakes are not made again.
imo
But I do not understand the new expansionism with Canada, Greenland and Panama... I understand the maps and the shipping routes, but if all of this was thought about before, really missed it. Alaska was called "Seward's Folly" and was thought to be an extravagant and foolish purchase in 1867.... of course they say that you cannot create more land, but we probably could do that with an engineering project as we routinely dredge and shore up beaches.
